About the Project

I have finally decided to make a project with some of the numerous miniatures that need painting. So thought I would start with Moonstone. I am at best an average painter. But thought that this may encourage me to try and up my game with some internet based encouragement/judgement. I have won a couple of buttons which is nice. Not necessarily merited but nice.

The last figure for my dominion force is Ribald the troll.

Tbh this is probably the miniature I was most looking forward to of the remaining Goblin force.

I didn’t note any of the steps for this model except the skin.

I decided to use GW Hobgrot Hide as the main colour.  I mixed it with a little Kantor blue to begin and then worked back up to Hobgrot which was mixed with Ogryn camo.

As I like the mini, there are a few extra photos

Next up is Bristlenose the troll.

With this one I thought I would list the method to make think about what was doing?

First I base coated the skin, I choose a mid tone of GW Death guard green and mixed it with some black.

Bristlenose the troll

I then painted in the skin tone with pure Death guard green

I then added some GW Ogryn Camo in increasing amounts and layered it over the skin.

I painted the loin cloth with GW Caledor sky mixed with Kantor blue and worked up just Caledor sky.  I then mixed in some white in increasing amounts to do the highlights.

I painted the strappings with XV 88 and washed it with Agrax earthshade

i also painted the wheelbarrow in leadbelcher.

I then highlighted the details and mostly forgot to note down what I used. And when I was just needing to add a highlight to the ropes, dropped the model.

Fortunately the model didn’t really break but it did chip the paintwork.

I essentially had to redo all of the fins around the body as I could match the colours I used before.

But as you can see below, the miniature painting has been completed, I will return to the base at some stage in the future.

The last four goblins have been completed.

First up is Boom Boom McBoom.  I liked how his hair contrasts with the skin.

Next up is the Tax Collector

Then Jobie.  I think I needed to go little armed with the cloak but he is alright.

Last up is Shabaroon.  He is the last of the goblins except for the trolls.

The last four goblins and 2 trolls.

The goblins I am hoping to finish this weekend and then sort out the trolls over the next couple of weeks.

Next up is Crusty Balboa.

This model worked out OK as I did do the Goblin and lobster respectively.

The lobster was just painted Mephiston red, a thinned down Druchi violet as a shade, a dry brush of scarlet, them a drybrush of troll slayer orange.  The orange was then used for a highlight on some of the underside.

The goblin was just a simple paint job.

Although I am planning on doing the basing later, I do like the model on the game website being on a rock.  So before putting this one on it’s base, I plan on using some cork to create a rock.

we will see how that goes and then I will add another photo.

The one is causing me issues. I am still not sure is wrong with the skintone but it will do.

i went back to the GW colours of Waaagh flesh, warboss flesh and skarsnick green.  The a few highlights of bugmans glow.

For the uniform I started looking at uniforms of the Spanish in the napoleonic war – then realised that was not my thing and just decided to paint whatever colours felt like.

I am struggling with reaching the level that I want these miniatures to be at.  But I feel I should make a concerted effort to finish the Goblins Dominion and have been working on them at the same time as this mini

Not feeling painting the goblins.  I will do a few more and see if I start getting the feel but may move away from moonstone for a while and do a few other projects.

However, here are the latest 2.  I did try a couple of different approaches to the skin but still I am not happy with the results but they will do.

I may come back and redo these two for a later date.

Next up is El Capitano in his little boat.

For the Sunni went for a darkish green (Scale75 Arphen Green) and worked up but although it is fine from a distance, closer inspection leaves it a lot to be desired.

For this one I started off as GW Orruk Flesh and worked up.  I think this mini is better than the previous one  it both could be better.

both models were worked up using by mixing in first GW Nurgling green followed by Ogryn Camo.   For the final touch they got a little GW cadian fleshtone mixed in for a few highlights

I am now starting on finishing off my Goblins.

First up is Portly Pete. I am not sure why but when painting this model it left me feeling underwhelmed.  Maybe as it was mostly armoured.

Also, I think I started tonight with my skin and should redo it with a darker skin tone.

The paint job is alright but I know it could be better
