About the Project

Having had the rules for frostgrave for a while I figured it was time to get the terrain and minis together for a game. I have a bunch of 3d printed items which I'm hoping to get completed as well as some more items I'd like to get put together.

Sidequest, 5 leagues from the borderlands

So the printing and painting goes on, I’ve been working on expanding the board foundations with 2nd tiers and a large bridge. I’ll post them when i have the time to take some pictures.

As a side quest though I started playing 5 leagues from the borderlands. Whilst I thought frostgrave was going to be a solo game I’ve actually roped in a few friends and its become my mains social game. That meant that solo games felt somehow not as exciting. To fix this i bought a copy of 5 leagues from the borderlands and fell in love, perfect for my solo playing and steeped in narrative. Anyway I was so inspired i had a go at turning the starter scenario into a narrative video. Felt like a good exploration of storytelling, video editing and tabletop gaming. I’ve made a youtube channel and posted the first video. Now working through the 1st campaign phase and getting the terrain expanded to support less city based boards. Maybe worth its own project but for now its using the frostgrave terrain.

Very pleased with this addition to the terrain collection. I’m working through the lich campaign so needed ships to play on, the big one is from loot studios and the rest/jetty’s are from hexenguard. I really love how different of a board setup this feels like, never fought a skirmish over ships before but i’m very excited to try it!

"Stepped pyramid" I think it works for the purpose of the mission and it adds some variance to the architecture of the board

A new big building for the outdoor setup. Tried something new on the stonework by underpainting in green and stippling on orange/red to try for a chromatic grey feel. Overall I think it looks good but I have refined the process on some other small pieces of terrain ill post here shortly.

I’m currently painting a whole bunch of scatter terrain to further the complexity of the board.

Next in the queue is more of the risers and supporting elements, I don’t have enough retaining walls and hexenguarde now also has double high retaining walls and a cool broken bridge I want to be able to field.

I’ve also been printing about 20ft of walls and towers which will take a mammoth effort to paint but this was always going to be a big project 🙂

Finally the next big thing im working on is a dungeon setup. Looking at perilous dark i’m going to make preset (glued) rooms and corresponding cards for ease of play using the 3d printed dungeon setup here: https://www.myminifactory.com/users/JoeFrizzy. a lot to print here but I have a few rooms printed already and painting should be fairly straightforward.

Got some height added to the board as it was looking too flat. With this and some higher buildings I think it will look more visually pleasing. Printed using hexenguard’s riser system.
