Christmas has come and gone... time to count up
Christmas has come and gone… time to count up.
Im declaring this post the last one of this project. It’s the 27th and I don’t think i will be getting chance to paint anything more to improve on this statistic for 2025. I could still end up purchasing stuff but we’ll gloss over that as an accounting or rounding error.
Models completed: 99
Models purchased: 231
(Self) Taxation claimed: £904
42.9% completion rate on purchased vs painted. I didn’t touch the backlog, in fact i made it worse! Combat Patrol and Warlord Games have taken most of the money from my hobby wallet this year.
However, the best part of this complete and utter dismal failure is that Rachel Reeves paid me £226 just for doing some hobby.
That makes the total hobby related additions to my lifetime ISA £1130 before we account for interest payments too which have been variable but well over 4% most of the year so maybe add another £50 or so.
The total £1180 for 2025 will continue to grow for another 22 years and help buy me more toy soldiers in my retirement (before actual retirement age).
it also means that i can highlight to my wife and in-laws that i spend considerably less on my hobbies (average £75 a month) than my father in-law spends on his golf membership (which was once described as a cheaper alternative…)
So in summary, I failed! But succeeded! Huzzah!

Combat Patrol backlog....
Models completed: 99
Models purchased: 230
Taxation claimed: £877
In the interest of showing you a true picture… here is the backlog from the combat patrol subscription. an extra 71 models and £270 of self-tax. I have now cancelled the magazine subscription. I feel I’ve got enough out of it and i did keep buying doubles of issues which slowed progress somewhat.

a view of things to come
now, not all of this was purchased in 2025… a lot of it was bought when the models were the monthly special, therefore the taxation and model increase is limited by comparison to this photo. Just two special models, a MMG (not photoed), the handcarts and the main box of minis.
