Relics Britanan Starter Set and Beyond – Models from a time long ago (Spring Clean 2025)

About the Project
Way back when i bought the Britanan starter set from then Tor Gaming, there was something about the sack cloth musket wielding troops that just got me. Fast forward many moons and TT combat picked up the brand and pushed out some new models which were equally as excellent. So once again i picked them up. This was last year and they have been sitting on my shelf staring at me awaiting a coat of paint. 2025 is their year!

Further WIP Various Stages
Various things to clean up on these guys but some WIP shots as its been a little while.
Not overly happy with the green on the highlanders, i feel its too pastel and not rich enough, will have to search around for another green to fit.
The two extra musketeers brings the total to nine now so that’s all of them done when i’ve finished the red and black on these two.
The rangers just need a tidy up and black done, these are probably my favourite at the moment as i love the green and red combination.
The dogs have proven pretty easy to paint up as its mainly the sack cloth, once the straps, teeth and wheels are done i’ll get the basing sorted. They need their pack leader too which ive yet to even base,
Almost done (like 99% or something)
So i painted up the bases, keeping with a simple brown with highlight and some stones to break the base up a bit.
Once that was done i put on some highland themed tufts and the odd flower.
I quite like the highland theme but would have preferred the flowers in smaller bunches, feel they are a bit overwhelming in such large patches. I need to cut them up but did all this on a lunch break in my car and forgot the clippers so here we are.
Ive got a few little bits still to finish, mainly the drummer boy and trying something on the flag, the eyes for the CSMs etc but the bulk is now done.
Making some progress
Ive got to admit i’m loving painting these guys up, its not particularly difficult but i can imagine as these come to life they are highly motivated but completely useless at soldiery. The CSM with the horn is just shouting at each in turn getting more and more frustrated as the battle falls apart sue to complete incompetence.
I’m also a massive sucker for painting up redcoats which helps immensely. For these guys i’m trying to go for a deeper richer red so its not too bright which means i might need to shade these down some more and maybe add in some blue/purple in the shades.
For now i’m just focusing on the redcoated troops, i’m going to leave the highlanders and the rangers. The grenadiers turned up a bit late too so they’ll be left for round two.
I also ordered some dogs….i think i need help…
Box Contents and my "To Do" pile
So after grabbing all the bits i had for the Britanan’s i started getting them assembled, basing put on (some) and undercoated ready for paint.
I was so pleased to find and start this project that whilst i was having a look at the tor gaming website for pictures of the models my finger accidentally slipped and i ended up ordering some of their new stuff! In for a penny….
I should add that i have no plan on using these for anything, i just really like the models. I’m sure a game will present itself at some point.
Finding the Box
So i found the original box and all the minis with it, i must have been quite excited when this came out as i had some additonal models on top of the main box (whoops).
Best get onto painting these up for spring clean challenge…and because it really has been long enough now.
Inspiration - BoW of old
So whilst researching paint schemes and general info i found that our very own OTT covered these guys back in 2013! A young Justin interviews Gavin at TT combat about the range.
There are also some painting videos on the site but all i get at the moment are errors on playback so i will have to just paint from the pictures. If anyone can find a working video of the below let me know!
