About the Project

I have decided to help keep my motivation, to do a weekly update of what I have been doing. This will hopefully stave off the fatigue of the never ending pile of potential, and also reassure me that I am sort of making progress. The project will have a range of miniatures from different genres such as kingdom death monster, burrows and badgers, moonstone, marvel crisis protocol, Star Wars shatterpoint and everything in between. The last count was about 850 miniatures, that need to be painted. Normally they are then stored away but at least they will be completed.

Well fixing the model went……not well.

So it is back in the box and I will hopefully forget it ever existed.

Only the model painted this week as I am still struggling to find the love.  The model is Buzenbo from Bushido.  Although I like the model I have dropped it a couple of times so the wings keep falling off.

Despite that I mostly like the end result.

Week 27

The base still needs sorting but I am unsure what to do with it.

I may add this to my burrows and badgers collection so match it up with them.  Or start a new scheme for the Bushido miniatures.

6 month anniversary I guess.

have had a slow week due to a few struggles with motivation, but I did finish a couple more.

Not the best standard but good enough for tabletop if I ever use them for that.

First another KDM mini. Unusually for Kingdom Death it is a fully clothed female figure.

You would think with all the photos I take for these updates, I would be getting better but never mind.

Next up is Apocalypse for MCP, his paint job is alright, especially considering it is the second attempt after finding some unforgivable mould lines 80% through the first one.

I also tried to fix a broken miniature as some time in the last 22 months I painted a Cosmic Ghost Rider and the dropped it.  I have been putting off fixing it as the connection points are garbage and I am back handed.

Week 26

I may take couple of weeks off from painting as I haven’t been enjoying my end results.

But we shall see.

6 more burrows and badgers done, and now all my prunes B&B minis are all complete and now only the last Kickstarter needs completing.

Also a kingdom death monster model has been finished

Up next are a few more Kingdom Death monster models and also Apocalypse from Marvel Crisis Protocol.

With Apocalypse I started painting but realised I left some massive gaps and building lines over the model.  Enough that I had to scrape off and restart after spending a couple of hours on the mini already.

it did mean that I did have certain 90’s theme tune going through my head at random times.

So 4 more Burrows and badgers minis finished.  These are 4 of the ghasts, I have keep a simple colour scheme for all of them so they were relatively to paint.  6 smaller ghasts to go and then all of my primed Burriws and Badgers will be completed.

So next up is working on the remaining Burrows and badgers primed models.  The models up next shouldn’t be too difficult as I will just follow the same colour sheen as the rest of the ghast models.

I also have the three kingdom death models but to be honest I have somewhat stalled on those as awaiting some inspiration.  I do still have a few other KDM models that are primed and ready to paint so should move on to those soon as well.

i have also started to build my blood bowl miniatures for season 3 and have half built my bretonians.  If I am honest building the models is always the worst part of the joint for me, I would always rather just do the painting.

One day when I am at work next week, I will use a break to update my spreadsheet with all if the new stuff and what has been completed.  In the style of some other projects that have been seen, I will also keep a running total of what I have left to paint.

As it is the end of the year I just thought I would update with a few more completed miniatures to try and have some extra motivation for the new year.

2 more Burrows and Badgers completed with a couple of necromancers done.

I have also made a start on 3 KDM miniatures and played around with the Caucasian skintone and think I am happy with both.  For a change I started off a lot darker using Vallejo cavalry brown as a starter and then worked up on two models, and on the third just used it as the base then then painted over and then layered up.

The rat and bat necromancers are first.  For the rat I thought an albino look which is alright but I think I should have made brighter.  The bat needs redoing, the robe turned out ok but the actual creature itself not so much.

For my purposes they are good enough.

Next are my WIPs.  3 models from Kingdom Death and a couple of the undead from burrows and badgers.

As a reminder for myself the skins as follows:

Woman with spear on the left.

Base Coat: Vallejo Cavalry Brown

2nd base coat: GW cadian with a touch of Cavalry brown.

1st layer was pure cadian

2nd-5th layers were cadian mixed with Kislev flesh increasing to pure kislev

the other 2 models had the same base coat of V Cavalry brown

1st layer was V Cavalry brown with a bit of cadian flesh tone, that look very similar to bugmans glow.

2nd-4th layers just added more cadian to the mix until it was pure cadian.

5th layer was a mix of cadian and Kislev

6th layer was pure kislev

So this week has been a mixed bag in regards to ongoing quest of getting my pile of potential reduced.  Some more models have been painted and I have built all of the models from the KDM purchases – which was a total of 29 miniatures.

However I did paint a couple of them.  The do look better in real life and less shiny but they will do.  I did have a few issues with the axeman as he was not built all that well and had a few mould lines that I thought I could get away with, until I couldn’t and had to scrape them away after I was about 80% complete.

I also completed some more burrows and badgers.

The first up is the Mouseketeer which is a good model but I don’t think my paint job did it justice.

Next is the barn owl that I had been putting off for weeks as I wasn’t sure how to do it.  In the end I just went for block colours and some dry brushing, and I think it turned out alright.

The last model is technically complete as the car piper, however, it is one of those that I will want to come back to if at a later date to try some tartan on it.  However they us probably quite done time as u want my list die. To manageable numbers before doing something that time intensive( at heart it will be for me).

Still 5 models in a week is pretty good especially with all the building of miniatures I have been found, and everything else taking up time during Christmas week.  There are also three mine burrows and badgers on the go and may be completed by tomorrow.

However, talking of Christmas, and did rather well out if it and got the following out of Xmas day.

Week 23

So essentially I think that on Christmas Day I received the following:

Blood Bowl season 3 – 24 minis

Dark Water – 49 minis

Moonstone – 17 minis

So 90 new minis plus the KDM minis means that it in December I gained 119 minis.  I may be back to where I was when I started.

Oh well, at least with this project I can also see how long it is into the new year before I buy some more.
