About the Project

I have a stack of terrain that needs to be built and painted. What a swell time to get on it. Will also be used for 40K!

The finished landing pad. An Arvus Lighter will go on this (I hope, haven’t built one yet).

I used a lot of Nuln Oil shade to darken the silver, dry rub transfers to get the numbers etc on. Glued on the tools and random stuff on the end of the landing pad.

Inspiration for the numbers came from the centrepiece in the second edition Ultramarines codex. I didn’t have massive “41” rub on, but it’s just a number.

Now primed and let sit overnight, I masked off the hazard area around the centre lift.

Next I airbrushed yellow, then black, and hand painted the fuel tanks a deeper yellow (Yriel from GW).

That’s a morning of doing stuff.

A place to land

Next up for the terrain is a landing pad. I will be adding things to the model – extra pipes, places for decals, and a collection of tools and detritus on the main level. More to come!

Tile 2: the green sludge!

Big snow day here, with the airport even being shut down for a few hours. So I worked on terrain.

Second tile for my Necromunda board. Painted a pathway, and a green sludge that has seeped its way out of the sump.

More work on the test tile

Masked off lines, airbrushed in slightly different shades and borders, and rust for the grating areas.

A warning! Test of a taped off airbrush pattern

Tested masking and painting the centre of a tile – AK Deep Yellow and AK Deep Red, followed by Vallejo Matt varnish. Tape used is special automotive art tape that doesn’t peel the paint when applied even within a few minutes.

Drab and varnish.

I airbrush primed the first four panels with Vallejo Olive Drab, then matt varnished them to get a good solid base. Real painting can now begin!

And so it begins …

I’ve been hoarding stuff for about a year now, and it’s time to get the boxes opened and off the shelf, build and paint some terrain.

The first set of floor tiles is open already, I’ve been using them in their raw plastic form as backdrops for all my photos…

With the stack I have, I should have enough for nice sized table of variable terrain. I don’t plan on gluing anything to the tiles, as I want to able to have as much variety as possible.
