About the Project

This project started out as me building some terrain for use at home to get my wife and daughter into gaming, now its become a bit of a monster part one (the village of Nutting Hill) went to Salute '19 and because people liked it, it has spawned part 2 "The Mansion of Marneous Blackwick!" Im hoping that I will again be able to take this to Salute for 2020.

A bit of a how-to on how I go about making fires and flames

what you need: a lollipop stick to use as a base, sticks to poke and prod with and grab adhesive, this paticular stuff is from poundland

L-R a bit of a step by step, blob the adhesive onto your base, then gently work it with your stick of choice until you have something resembling flames. Dont worry you have plenty of time as it can be half an hour before its unworkable and it take a couple of hours to fully cure.

Once your tooth pick has been used, cut it in half, dip it in the adhesive and work it into flames again, et voila, torches! once theyre dry paint them as normal and cut them off the base using a sharp blade and super glue it onto the destination piece.

Measure twice, cut, cut and cut again...

… erm nope that cant be right…

With the blooding of the young’un healed over, work starts on the 1st floor.

I drew the floor plan out on the cardboard then took the measurements and transferred these to the insulation foam, it made the cutting and positioning way easier (and as a bonus its almost symetrical.. almost)

Symmetry is overrated

My daughter wanted to help me build stuff for the mansion. Now handing a scalpel to an 8 year old is scary as hell, not only because she could hurt herself but because she’s clumsy enough to kill me at the same time.., but thankfully with no blood spilled (got to be a first for me as well) at this point she’s built a fireplace…

Well its been a while since I managed to do any work on the mansion, between work and holidays. But I managed to sit down today and get some done.

So all the walls are now done and in place including the Main entrance and doors.

And a bonus of the cat helping, he was not amused when I asked him to move......

The last bits to do for this section are doing all the corner stones and filling in any gaps. Once I’ve sorted the next floors layout I can figure out where the small stairs will go.

And today children, we'll be looking through the Rectangular window...

First up, this where im upto, dry fitting the outer walls and placing furniture, man I need more furniture!

Heres the stained glass leaded window in place

..made from the little plastic display trays from Tesco's medicine aisle, you'll find their aspirin and paracetamol in them.

I currently looking for more suggestions on where to find furniture and gubbins to fill the house

so far I’ve got on my list: Mantic and 4Ground, Bad Squiddo, Iron Gate scenery, Charlie foxtrot models but where else?

Well building doors takes way longer than expected.. heres the first set, I'm questioning the amount of rooms just on the basis of this one set...

And they open.. cereal box card, coffee stirrers and staples for the hinges and handles

EDIT

After messing with them, the staple part of the hinges pulled straight out of the wall, not great really. After a cup of coffee a solution presented itself in the age old method of not trying to be to clever and just use a large paper clip driven straight down from top to bottom.
