So this is my competition entry this month.
Its based on the stat description for a forefather Fire Wyrm with the extra 2 BFG’s , but after seeing the humvee style design art, I decided to base this around modern military tech as well, so it could easily fit as something from one of the other armies, the idea is to keep in with the art direction warpath has taken.
So, I started off with a plastic kit of a US Marine Corp ADV , this is a good basis for conversions, as its split at the halfway point of the hull, so you can build the bottom half by following the kit instrictions and then work on the top at your leisure.
This particular kit had a lump on one side where the big air defense turret sits, and I wanted the two sides to be the same, so first job was to chop it off with a razor saw, and I did the cutting on the top for the gunners to whilst I was at it.
This left a big whole in the side, so I stuck a bit of plasticard to the back, and filled the whole, I also used strips of plasticard to go around the edges of the gunnery access whole to to neaten it all up.
Next step was to stick the guns on! I used a canon from a Leman Russ kit , cut it to an angle to match the fron (sort of!) and stuck it on, then created the shroud that covers the joint between tank and gun using greenstuff, at this point I also created the gun mounts using greenstuff and stuck the two BFG’s on, these were autocannons from the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons kit. I used those because the curved shields they come with bear a passing resemblance to the one fitted to the big gun we’ve seen in the forgefather range, again, trying to match whats already know regarding the art direction.
After that, it was a simple case of sticking the top an dbottom half together, getting the airbrush out , priming and painting it.
I painted the whole thing red, for two reasons. First, its easier to see in the photos, second, I’ll use it as some form of proxy for my marine army, who are red.
Photos inclused show all the steps described, plus the obligitary shot with marine to give an idea of scale.
