Sorry, but I don’t like the troop choices at all. There are too many points concentrated at that Aegis-Position.
It will get wiped out by anything that is tough and fast or anything that has barrage weapons or torrent weapons. For example: Boss Bikers, 2 or 3 Nemesisknights, two or three maxed units of Canoptek Wraiths, Helldrakes, Battle Psykers with weaken resolve…
If he doesn’t have something like this, 15 or 25 guys behind the line are more than enough. The sniper rifles and the autocannons won’t do much against anything but monstrous creatures without invulnerable save anyway.
Your 10 mobile guys are not enough.
If you just want bodies that hold a defensive position and some flamer guys that take a postion after a barrage, you don’t use the BS 4 of the Veterans and their krakgrenades anyway. You could do the same with a regular platoon. You pay more than 500 Points for that 40 Veterans. If you take a normal infanty platoon, you pay 250 points for two bog standard Infantry squads to hide and go to ground behind your Aegis line. You also get two special weapon squads with 3 Flamers each and a platoon command with 4 Flamers to fill your three vendettas. This leaves 250 Points to get some real fire support instead of the few sniper rifles and autocannons. You could also get Marbo, a Quad Gun, a second HQ with a MOO or whatever you like. For Veterans, there is nothing better than 3 Plasmaguns in a Chimera in 6th Edition anyway.
I agree, if you can get to them that isn’t a lot of Guard to kill – and they’re very static, hunkered down in the same place. Vendetta over kill – yes you’ll rule the skies but I’d rather drop one and have more boots on the ground.
Still – good army, a horrible amount of templates raining down on my orks – fighting hammer and anvil would be a nightmare.
I have to agree, that taking over 500 points worth of static infantry is just a bit too much. Plus the whole thing relies on defence lines, I don’t know about you, but ever since fortifications can be included in an army list, i always make effort to include at least 2 things into my army that can deal with extreme cover saves (currently running, Colossus, Hellhound, Master of Ordnance). I think after this extensive use of defence lines, and the addition of wall of death, we will see massed templates on offensive units.
I think the army list has it’s upsides, and would be very painful to play against. But it has some really deep problems,
On a personal note, I would just exchange the vets for 2 regular platoons, with Autocannon G-launcher combos. And probably have one one of the infantry squads, or PCS in the vendettas for additional objective capping potential.
Just to point out the list is constrained by the existing model collection…
I live in the US and i have to say as a guard player that Marbo is without a doubt the most entertaining character in the Imperial Guard. One of my favorite things about him is the fact that after he throws his demo charge, every opponent i fight has to kill him in the next turn.
Marbo is definitely awesome. I obliterated a unit of 3 crisis suits and a crisis Commander with the demo charge alone, and my opponents army pulverised him for it, saving my army from a round of tau shooting.
I think this list does have too much infantry though, because although the defence line is good, all those units that deep strike and shoot with lots of shots will make as mess of those veterans. In my army, I run 1125pts of guard and an Inquisitoral detatchment with Coteaz, 9 Death Cult Assassins and a Vindicare to back up my infantry, which works especially well against Tyranids and their MC’s.
Something a lot of people have missed concerning minimum range has to do with the Barrage special rule. If you read the rule Barrage weapons CAN fire at targets iside their minimum range, they just don’t get to subtract the BS of the firing unit from the scatter distance. So personally I don’t mind Basilisks and other tanks people don’t like because of their minimum range, esspecially considering they have a low BS to begin with.
just a challenge but i would like to see if any one can make an okay rough rider themed army of imperial guard that works pretty well
as an idea a combination of a captin alraheem led platoon with lot of flamers plus rough riders and a dessert pattern valkarie plus marbo a dessert type lord commissair with camo cloak maybe leading a squad of sniper forward sentry vets with aditional vet squads with simmalir upgrades also a commpany command squad with astroph so as to make captin alrahhems platoon araive faster the challenge points are 1850pts
sorry it’s captin al’rahem
