Grey Knights are Go – Ready For Pre-Order
March 9, 2011 by warzan
So Grey Knights are go!
Details over on Games Workshop and pre-orders are also ready over at Wayland Games:
Well lets not hold back, while we're getting to the bottom of everything lets get the pictures rolled out.

Grey Knight Terminators £22.16

Grey Knight Nemesis Dreadknight £26.40
Best nugget so far is we think everyone in GK has a power weapon (ouch to us nid players) and characters will have force weapons.
So let's get speculating about what's in the book!

That army will need a hellhound flame tank full of mr sheen…
The models are lovely.. but i can’r help feeling the price of 5 grey knights is just to high.. but they will sell im sure and GW will make a healthy proffit.
According to the codex info on the GW site. They are all going to be very expensive points wise and have awsome stat lines.. a true elite army.
My friend is going to collect them so i will have the chance to fight them soon after the new release. looking forward to it. 🙂
It’s £20 on the GW website for 5 grey knights in power armour. They really are taking the f%&king p*ss.
Hmm. The terminators are my favourite I think and one thing to notice is that there’s an apothecary upgrade. Not sure what that is on the backpacks of one of the standard squads of grey knights.
Read Draigo’s description it says he rose to grand master since defeating a daemon, yet it says ever since defeating it hes been cursed to walk in the warp…?
The ones with two little pylons sticking out of the top….I believe they are the Interceptor Squads…they carry personal transporters and are the fast attack unit rumoured to be able to teleport across the board…kinda terrifying :/
ahh yep thats probably it.
Oh would you look at that, the land raider and storm raven default images turned grey instead of red now…
I’m not really a fan of the magazines on the power armour guy’s storm bolters, they look too bulky and the teleport backpacks look like the Big Bad Beatleborgs or transformers kibble (the bits of the car they couldn’t make fit into a robot so they just left them hanging.) But looking at the models the winging I’ve done over the 5 man box might be a bit premature, it looks like there’s more than enough spare parts in it to convert 5 or 10 more from tactical squads but I still want to see the sprues before I sink a twenty on them.
Considering they’re supposed to have the best weapons and equipment of any Marines they sure have got bendy swords…
health and safety…
personly i think the dreadknight looks like [naughty word deleted] but i do like the rest
Yeah, it’s not very Space-Marine-y is it? I’m really not feeling it. Even the Penitent Engine looks better than this.
Oh it isn’t too bad. I think it would make a nice Deff Dread
Also, if you all haven’t checked the forums yet, I went ahead and made a photoshop mock up of the Dread Knight looted into a mega dread:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting-factory/forum/topic/looted-dread-knight-counts-as-deff-dread-ideas/
well the orky one is one hell off an improvement
Umm… Dreadnight anyone? Looks so cool, like the idea of not having to die before you get to use it. The pilot looks like his fine in his tactical Dreadnought armour while being strapped into an dreadnought. I wonder dose he get a 2+ armour save or an armour value? Or if you shoot at his front the man takes the hit and rear and sides the armour takes the hit. somthing like that.
Just noticed its got a Warjack look to it, just the massive shoulders and the proportions of it.
Looks very similar to the things in avatar to me, how the human moves controls the rest of the machine…
He’s got a Terminator save. 2+ /5+
With the Nemesis Force Sword equipped, the invuln save goes to 4+ in CC.
The Dreadknight is a monstrous creature so it always takes the hit on its toughness which was something obscenely high like 7 or 8 in the leaked codex, but supposedly toned down in the final version.
Nemesis Dreadnaught has a Strength of 7 and a Toughness of 7. Point Cost of 130 If you don’t want to add any different weapons to him.
Will probably have an armour value like an walker, but open topped. I like it anyway and that it dosent look Space marinish i sa positiv thing. the are supposed to be diffrent. Im counting down to the realese. 🙂
The store here had a copy to look at. The Dreadknight’s like a Wraithlord. Can’t remember most of the statline but it’s toughness 6 with a 2+ armour save and a 5+ invuln.
Can’t remember any more than that, I’m afraid.
When I say like a Wraithlord, I mean there’s not special rules for the pilot, it’s just treated like a Monstrous Creature.
I was originally planning to drop about 300 quid on new stuff since they come out around my birthday, but having seen the new stuff my attitude is a bit meh. Dreadknights are fairly sweet, but the regular guys are freaking expensive at 5 for 20 odd quid. I think the majority of my army is going to be staying as metal GK’s with just the occasional new thing thrown in.
yeah aesthetically there isn’t that big a difference either, I think the PA GK just look more space marine
Yeah, I liked the old sculpts better. These ones aren’t unique enough.
As I hoped, I don’t like them. Thus saving me from another marine army.
thank god for that
pretty cool – but the Australian price is > x2 the UK price ….
Would you guys in the UK buy a Dreadknight – for $90 or 56 quid ? or the codex at $48
being 30 ?
No wonder so many ppl grey import from Wayland etc. That is what we are indeed being expected to cough up. I have always known GW markup but this takes the proverbial biscuit. So GW if your AU sales are down – guess why ?
It’s the same in the US and the boxes have ‘made in USA’ on them. Wallet raping bastards. I’m so sick of games workshop it’s not even funny.
Is it me our was the Dreadknight in the last Matrix movie
I thought the same.
Yeah I was thinking that too, I just want to see if anyone else noticed it too. I’d like to make a marine loader to run around with a trolley of ammunition, and he’d start the game in reserve and when he reaches the dread, the dread can rapid fire all it’s weapons and twinlinked if not already. Just like in the matrix.
I’m liking the models, though the prices do seem a little steep.
I adore the GK power armoured helmets… I think I may buy a box just for them, to be scattered around my existing marines. Chapter Champion anyone?
When I look at the Dreadknight, a movie quote comes to mind…
“Get away from her you B**CH” – Ripley
I just watched that on the weekend.
dammit gw, I was thinking of buying a nid army but now I am thinking again about a gk army… I hope the ws of every unit is still 5 otherwise it are just marines with fancy toys
by the power of grey skull
those dreads look like the things from the matrix they look a bit crap
Stat wise they are far from crap, being Heavy Support with high stats, and a Psyker to boot, though they point cost is a little steep if you to add better weapons then the two Nemesis Doomfists or keep the Fists and just add the Personal Teleporter
Meh not impressed
These look like something out of some saturday morning cartoon, a badass cartoon, but a cartoon none the less. They simply don’t have that grim dark feel to them. I don’t think they did well with these, at least not as well as the BA or the SW ranges and certainly not as well as he DE range.
meh…. As people have said before. The PAGK’s look too run-of-the-mill Mariney. Dreadknight… I don’t see why they wouldnt just get a dreadnaught instead. I think its because they restricted themselves with the fluff.
termies poses are.. not as good as the metal ones…
just… eh.. not appealing at all.
Well, the hero is a kind of Lysander redone…
And the Dreadknight still reminds me:
Or this
Even the bots at Matrix Revolutions!!
But it is great!!
I was thinking about actually trying out GW again and figured since these guys are so expensive points wise they would be a bit easier on the wallet. Unsurprisingly, not so much. Wow the prices are expensive. $40 for 5 marines. Holy *insert expletive*!
standard guys look meh. love the termies though, TERMINATOR STANDARD BEARER!!! 😛 im getting a set of those, anyway £22.16 for a great looking terminator COMMAND squad or £27.70 for a set of boring bog standard termies? and kaldor looks immense also
I’m with you. I really like the termies. The PAGK are quite nice, but not for the price I guess, they have cool helmets. I love Kaldor he just exudes coolness…
also worth mentioning, the venerable dreadnought default image and the default image for the terminator librarian have also been ‘grey knightified’
:S third post in a row. as of 15:33 GMT
Kaldor Draigo £13.80
Grey Knights £20.50
Grey Knight Terminators £27.70
Codex £17.50
Dreadknight £33!
:O prices are going up and they’re not even out yet!
Do keep in mind a Grey Knight Terminator Squad is a five Man squad for 200 points before options and have a Psychic power.
5 Grey Knight marines for £20! A plastic box set as well? What are you playing at GW!?!?!
At a time when it must surely be wiser to reduce prices and drive more money into marketing to attract new gamers, why oh why would GW set prices like this for a new release? It is just disgusting.
GW are in serious danger of pricing alot of its gamers out of its products. Dont they realize the majority of us gamers are either young adults with a bit of pocket money or working professionals like me with financial commitments who would happily sacrifice a nite out at the local real ale pub to own a new box set or squad of troops?
We all love GW products and are fans of great games and minis, but this is starting to feel exploitative on GW’s part and it out of touch with who their customer base really are. I mean, £4 for a plastic miniature? If a set of Grey Knights had been £12.50 (£2.50 a model) or £15 at a push that would have been easier to swallow but £20? NO FLIPPIN’ WAY GW!
So, i think as gamers and consumers its about time we voted with our wallets. Lets all start looking at better priced gaming systems, made by people who understand that us humble gamers arent all rich and cant afford £20 of our hard earned money for a measly 5 PLASTIC models. Lets support companies that want to give us something back for our LOYALTY AND SUPPORT, that sets their prices REALISTICALLY. Its time to show GW they cant continue to take advantage of our shiny syndrome NO MORE!
Rant over.
Its about to get worse…
It can get worse ? I love 40K, been into it for 19 years now but I sold all of my minis and codexes on ebay as I just could not realistically do it anymore. I barely played at all and a large part of that was I could never afford the minis you need to play a “real” game of 40K. I read 40K books and codexes and listen to the audiobooks all the time but other than the fluff 40K is pretty much dead for me. GW really needs to think about what they are doing. They are hurting themselves in the long term. Especially with up and coming companies like Mantic who I hear are making a sci fi range soon too.
😉
‘Fess up @warzan, what do you know?! 😉
will spill all … soon
There is another price hike coming I bet.
Not just a price hike, that’d be too simple. Ages old Orc models doubled in price overnight now £20 for 5 space marines.. Recon everything in the range will be £18/20 for 10/5 (pick your system).
As a poor @$$ university student, I can honestly say you are freaking me out man. Give us a hint….. how many zeros are we talking?
I second that!
admit-ably when I heard that another space marine codex was coming out I was quite distraught. But then looking at those prices… gack! I don’t know what I’m going to do…
I mean I can’t even understand why they think they can get away with this.
I know GW thinks of themselves as a “premium” brand, but if this continues their going to premium their way out of my checkbook. it’s come to the point me and my gaming buddies
are moving on and playing other systems, with no intention of coming back.
I have great fear for when the next Tau codex comes out, suits are already bloody expensive and I can’t see how anyone would buy them if they got any worse.
They think they can get away with it because people keep buying their stuff. Vote with your wallets.
Here, here! Well said that man! You also end up with £10 of spare bits you can’t use that sit in your bitz box gathering dust. Its bullsh*t!!!
here here for assault on black reach grey knights.
Black Reach nothing; I’m still using my 2nd edition Grey Hunters. If I had any of my old Rogue Trader beaky Marines left, I’d be using them as Grey Knights as well.
I have said it elsewhere but i say it again. Somehow, somewhere along the way GW tricked us into paying for points of a model not substance of a model. Grey knights are points heavy models so you pay more per model for them so GW gets there money out of your 1500-2500 point army whether it imperial guard infantry or grey knight terminators…. why else would 6.1 ounces of kroot carnivores with 132 pieces list at $35.00 and 6.6 ounces of spacewolves terminators with 100 pieces list at $50.00
Does anyone know whether there are plans for a GK Battleforce?
They didn’t do Dark Eldar but they did Blood Angels… I guess its how big GW think they will sell compared to those two armies.
im sure they will do battleforces for both GK and DE just not in any hurry think how long it took the BAs one to come out
not normally a fan of the eveel corporation these days, but that big walker thingy WILL be bought and converted into a secrets mech
With Sigourney Weaver at the controls the Dread Knight would do well agains Alien Queen Mothers or Tyranids.
[IMG
[/IMG]
Can’t GW at least try to be a little original?
well at least they wont be able to sue chapterhouse if they do one
Dark Eldar will eat them for lunch imo.
Too fast to catch + poisoned weapons
for all you great Ork players

For me it looks better then the “original” ;]
of all the times to wish 40K had reach like warmachine…
cant find a way to edit post… but the new kits scream magnetization…
I want these so much. i have been waiting since i first heard about them. and now due to other things i am just £2 short of pre-ordering the codex. GOD DAMN YOU LACK OF MONEY!!!!
Love the idea of an all-psyker-army.
But the models. WTF??
1. shit-in-my-pants terminators
2. i-only-have-this-double-handed-pose servo knights, because my huge chunk of bolter is in the way all the time
3. the dreaded nemesis eldar power ranger… biggest laugh of all and even worse than the storm chicken
I think i will by this codex and play it with something else as counts asarmy but avoid the ridiculous optimus knight
The grey knight dread knight is AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might start a grey knight army now !!
i spun the dreadknight…it was awesome
Yeah I had a laugh spinning too, Whats new today is pretty cool for that. It’s nearly as good has having the model. But you really do get a feel for it.
Im loving the GK figs. Yes the price is a little high but these are some of the most detailed plastic figures GW make. I myself am gonna pre-order some GK Termies and a box of GK marines…
These look so awesome.. i so want to face them with my daemon army regardless if im at a huge disadvantage or not. Should be one heck of an epic fight :P.
I’l prbly buy that deadknight so I can convert it to look like Dexter.

*sigh* Childhood memories.
They all lock fantastic!!! 🙂
GW sues everyone else for IP infringement and then rip their model designs right out of the Matrix.
GW really do suck these days
haha I have angered some fanbois!
well matrix wasnt the first one with that idea aliens and a movie called robot jox had pretty much the same idea long before the matrix. also if you can rememer the old dreads looked awfully like ed 209 from robocop
this is an awesome army; i’m genuinly thinking about selling off some of my space marines so that i can buy more grey knights
I do not like the Mech. And the prices are crazy. I am sorry, but I am not sold on this.
surely john youve heard that it transforms into a tank
its the old question man, is it nice looking over all i say yes so people will buy the stuff even if there paying mad amounts of money.
BoW Justin
If you want to have a lot of minis for your money grey knights are the wrong army but I like the dread Knight. Looks awesome! And it is quite huge. look on the GW site. The sword alone is three times a marine
Having had a flick through the GW site I realized what my problem is with the new prices. The nearest comparison I could find was Death Company – 5 marines for 20.50. The problem is they aren’t a real comparison because for the most part DC don’t feature heavily in an army, most players will only buy a box or two, whereas the GK box makes 3-4 different unit types all of which you’ll probably need. The second thing is the DC box had a ton of spare bits to help you kitbash regular marines into more BA looking guys, withGK that will be a little hard since they’re different to tac marines – you can’t just pile bitz on. Now lets compare both of these to the SW box. The SW box lets you make 3 different unit types like the GK box, it has tons of spare bits like the DC box, but here’s the kicker – it makes 10 men. Nowhere can you justify a box like the GK costing the same for half the guys when you compare it to something like that.
Well like one of my friends says if you have the bitz, then might as well magnetize. If you magnetize the models you get all the options and can easily tailor your force.
Is it just me or does the GK piloting the Dreadknight look like a baby strapped into a car seat? I like everything else though. Just that Dreadknight….looks like the mecha from Avatar, the first Iron Man, and the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movie all squished together.
i can see a lot of dark angel players buying the grey knight terminator kits for the apothecary upgrade
i know i’m markin out for GW, but when they make nice things, they make nice friggin things…not since space wolves have i loved a range so much. let’s hope the codex is up to expectations, cause i wants it.
nnnnnnooooooooooooo
For those of you overcome with shiny syndrome, trying to think of which internal organ to sell on the black market so you can buy one box of these VERY over priced new releases…
STOP RIGHT NOW!
By setting their prices like they do, GW are doing nothing more than exploiting our love of minis and games and its time we stood up as a community and said NO MORE! If we all band together and refuse to buy this new release maybe GW will get the message and start to look at dropping their prices.
We need to stick together on this, no matter how much we want these models. TIME TO TAKE A STAND!
DO NOT PRE ORDER THESE MODELS
DO NOT PRE ORDER THESE MODELS
DO NOT BUY THESE MODELS ON RELEASE
DO NOT BUY THESE MODELS ON RELEASE
Do you find the price rises from GW a joke? Are they pricing you out of their product range? Want to do something about it? Vote with you wallet and make this latest release from GW a complete bust.
WITH PRICES SET THE WAY THEY ARE, WE ARE BEING EXPLOITED. SIMPLES AS. TIME FOR US GAMERS WHO HELPED BUILD THIS COMPANY TO TAKE A STAND.
and do what? Spam their Email boxes with Hate mail?
I don’t think we need to do anything. GW will just run itself into the wall by itself. It will show in the sales. I mean common! The old METAL grey Knight Terminator box costed about
$90 here in AUS and now the PLASTIC newer versions are only $20 cheaper????
Metal is SO obviously more expensive than Plastic
Gamers of the World, Unite! No kidding, the prices are really too high. I just bought an army of Skaven just for the attic because if i wait a year or two longer I pay half the price more just for waiting. It is so ridiculous. I know it is an expensive hobby and stuff but the prices for the normal troupes are just too high. Even tough I love the large models GW is producing at the moment (Spider, Dreadknight, Hell Pit Abo)..The problem with GK is that GW wants to earn a certain amount of money with each Army and gives a shit about the number of Minis they are selling for this Price
I think it’s the vat increases, The taxes our countries have put on plastic models is stupid. They are decreasing model sales and expecting to take more tax profit from it. But in reality they are decreasing sales and so decreasing tax profit.
I’m still going to make purchases from games-workshop but with my nid army nearly finished I think I got out as a lucky one.
1st the new models look crap 2nd ebays the way to go for me now. gw have shot themseves in the foot vat or no vat its just to exspensive i wont be buying from them again havent bought a model from them in over 2 years. one codex/army book/ rule set relesed every 5 mins is to mutch plus walk into a gw store i feel totaly intimadaed there so in your face.but what i really hate is that they got rid of the bitz part from the web site and white dwaf yes you can get bitz but im talking about a time when you could order nearly any part from any kit.its fow bolt action and arifix for me now more for ya money beter figs for me
Oh look, cries of “CORPORATE GREED!” Who saw that coming? >_>
While I won’t stick up for GW on that one, as the basis of their last price hike WAS and IS a half-arsed attempt to increase profit margins for shoddy management decisions. I do have to note that their material costs have gone up on both ends. The composite materials that make the metal minis has gone up significantly and plastics have the unfortunate burden to be a product of petroleum… y’know, OIL. They are a company making things out of expensive and dwindling resources. Expect prices to still climb even if GW becomes the model of efficiency. Keep in mind that economics played more of a role in the gradual price inflation over time, rather than just spikes of current mismanagement.
As for the people hoping to lead a charged boycott against “the man”… really? Boycotts and petitions really only carry weight outside cyberspace and even then it has to be noticeable. GW execs are not going to cringe that br0dude_12 joined an online forum petition about their prices. GW is only going to listen to their actual buyers (hint: its not really us). Unless you actually buy from GW’s site or stores, they are not getting your actual money. If you buy from your FLGS, an online retailer, or an ebay store… GW already got their cash, you’re just paying the middle man back for his investment.
Their real buyers are guys like Wayland, Miniature Market, the War Store, and other bulk merchants. These are the guys who have spent thousands of dollars to stock those massive online stores. Unless the bulk buyers boycott to freeze GW’s profits… you aren’t going to see results. For every 1 person you get on your band wagon, each just got out purchased.
To bad none of you understand that yes you pay more for the models, but the Grey Knight Codex is made so that you do not need as many models on the table. Their stats seem to be fantastic, although time will tell how good they really are. I already know how my Grey Knight army is going to look and feel.
By the way Beasts of War guys…yes all Grey Knights have force weapons lol…Unless its a vehicle lol.
Also what do you think of the Personal Teleporter? I personally don’t mind moving 30 inches once in a game with a Nemesis Dreadnaught. Although you cannot assault after you teleport
I can see there are valid arguments against the ludicrous price hikes and also valid arugments that attempt to justify the reasons behind them. End of the day, it boils down to the power of the consumer. Will you make the decision to buy, which justifies their increases, or not to buy, which send the message we wont tolerate it?
I may have made a rallying cry earlier but, to answer some replies to my posts, im not interested in sending hate mail to GW, starting a petition, etc. Im simply gonna STOP BUYING GW PRODUCTS. I believe that what they are doing to us hard working gamers with these price hikes is WRONG and, tho i may not be able to stop it, i will not encourage it any further by buying their products.
If you disagree with the price hikes as well, then I urge you to do the same. I get the feeling a wave of resentment is building amongst the global gamer community on this issue and ive already chosen which side i stand with.
The problem is especially visible with the grey knights I think. If you look at the Dark Eldar range, the core units are “cheap” for GW products or look at the Skaven clan rats. You get some minis for your money. But if you look at the GK the money burns down to a lot of of money for few minis. I wonder what is in this price?! Codex development for sure, I think that costs the same for all armies. Mini development of course. Is this kit really smaller than other kits or are there just fewer sprews in the box. Their Stores and Infrastructure…….. I think it would be really interesting If GW would would publish a cost calculation. Maybe the shouting would be a bit less loud, I don’t know
Decidedly average models, utterly crazy prices…yep seems like a GW release.
All I can say is I’m glad I have a fair few metal sisters of battle already incase they get the same “updating” as the GKs have.
For those saying boycotts and petitions don’t work…well you are half right, GW won’t care about petitions BUT if enough people boycotted them, even if only a part boycot such as not buying on the week of release, or buying from an indepedent stockist, they would sit up and take notice as money is the one thing they do pay attention to.
People are already voting with their money as sales drop year on year but so far GW have been able to cover those losses by price increases and streamlining, this gradual reduction will eventually be something GW have to deal with but they will leave it till the last possible moment, a sharp drop they would take more notice of.
Exactly vote with your wallets. I moved away from GW long time ago. I don’t pay for any of their stuff anymore. I threw out 16 years worth of White Dwarfs into the recycling plant. Sold my minis and codexes on ebay.
Terminators for troops choices? Jeez
How long til GW release a model that if you deploy it you insta-win the battle but it will cost £5,000 to buy the mini.
Fanbois would still buy it 🙂
Also this thread proves GW have shot themselves in the foot, more people are talking about the prices than the minis and this will be happening in all the forums and blogs to do with gaming.
I doesn’t help that the minis are pretty average, the power armoured GKs don’t look that much different to regular marines, the Terminators aren’t posed particularly well as standard, and the Dreadknight…I don’t even know where to start with that things problems.
I’ve been thinking about the prices a bit more.
It used to be that since I stopped buying GW products and started looking at all the different manufacturers out there, especially the smaller high quality ones like Hasslefree, Studio McVey…etc… I had no problem perhaps paying a little bit over GW prices because I knew I would be getting very high quality products and also partly an aspect of helping to support a small buisiness.
If I take these Grey Knight prices (and some of the others of late too like Death Company) though they are actually MORE expensive per model than most of the miniatures produced by the highest quality small companies out there.
Between GWs constant “plastic is better” line (I’m sure others remember when “plastic is cheaper” used to be the line?) and their adding to the cost of a unit if it is good in game or has a higher points value I am not surprised at all but certainly the “paying for quality” argument that is often used now holds no water what so ever.
When the first plastic kits came up and replaced the Metal minis I was totally against them, because they only were marginally cheaper and had less detail than the metal ones. But today I can only say most of the recent plastic kits are simply awesome. The only minis where I still prefer metal are characters. Never the less The prices are painful.
Again the way they are selling most of their kits leads me to the “dont be an idiot magnetize the SOBs” argument that is going on in a 40K forum… but i do agree the prices are a bit over the top but when you look at the versatility of some of the kits i can see were they get the higher prices.
O.o i just saw the word titan on the dreadknight, can you find it? then you may think 2 things: that word is defenetly on the wrong place, or, viespeuk has a dirty mind it is just right there.
wow i cant believe so many of the people i know missed that…
I’m afraid shiny syndrome has taken over……..must pre order, must pre order, must pre order……
