Infinity 3rd Edition Week – New Rules: Command Tokens!
October 13, 2014 by crew
Join the Fight & Order Infinity 3rd Edition! http://bit.ly/Pre-Order-Infinity-3rd-Edition
We're taking our first look at how the rules for Infinity have changed with the use of Command Tokens.
This new mechanic will switch up your games of Infinity and have you look at how you play in ways you've never imagined!

Very nice! I’m so excited.
Great to have some much content out in one day and a great video looks like an interesting.
Wish I had more cubes 🙁
No more free changing FIRETEAMS..Now they must consider it more thoroughly..
I’m new to Infinity and the command tokens rules look great to me.
I feel that Command Tokens add an interesting aspect of resource management to the game. Additionally the differing nature of the actions possible for the command tokens adds different tactical options for different armies. Pan-O definitely benefits from the reroll doctor option, while I can imagine Ariadna might get more of the combat group shuffling.
Like the sound of this. Pre-order’s pre-ordered so roll on that arriving.
Interesting. Can’t wait for the books to start shipping
I’m a winner
Wickedly awesome…….
What’s a fireteam?
Smaller tema inside your battle group, 3-5 soldiers, that gives therm certain bonuses in the game.
Awesome, the command as a resource is simple and subtle in its affect to change the battle. It sounds like it has value other than a trump card, which is appealing to me. I’m glad they changes fireteam rules, this should make the creation of fireteams a lot less expensive in terms of its impact on orders also decoupling it from the lieutenant order is a plus.
I love this seperation from the LT order, it’s much less confusing and now far more versatile. Often in the past I’d go whole battles never using my LT order for anything, these command tokens however seem like they’re going to see tons of use. If for nothing but to make re-rolls for my ‘tremendous’ Trauma Docs >____>
Nice…
I really like this new rules change, it gives the game even more depth without making it any more complicated.
It will have a huge impact on link teams. If you take out the link leader your opponent will have to spend these resources, for instance, keeping him from using them in other ways.
Coordinated orders for just one command token and one order, get ready for the storm of bullets, or wait till that Domaru Link Team gets within charge range :)~
Liking the idea, but I hope the variety of actions we can perform with Command tokens will be streamlined enough..
Finally Sun Tze is going to be a good Liutenant.
Interesting. Seems to add to the tactical possibilities, which is a good thing in my book.
seems interesting .
Just getting into Infinity with O:I I’m not sure what you were exactly talking about but I like it.
This Command Token new feature is great ! More variety and tactics incominnnn’ !
Keep it coming.
Sounds like a great addition to the rules/tactics. Can’t wait to hear about more changes coming in 3rd ed.
interesting be good to see how that plays
Great start to the week
Great start to the infinty week
Thanks for the sneek peaks!
I’m super excited
I have ariadna, havent seen the cube options yet. I just started painting the pan-o of the starter boc
Sounds like a really interesting mechanic
another great video
I am loving Icestorm, cant wait to get my hands on the 3rd edition rules….
Losing the lieutenant not being such a huge impediment now is a much better mechanic !!
I’m really curious to see where all of these new rules keep going. It’s still coming out pretty slowly and at the current rate is going to be a long, long wait until December.
Quite like this. Looking forward to the rest of the videos!
I like this more open information approach. I hope it crosses over into other parts of the rules too. It was always a big annoying having to scribble some details of your strategy on a piece of paper.
Command tokens sound very interesting.
great mechanic. a limited set of special moves. Not over balancing but adding depth.
New edition sounds great!
Nice! Need more new rules spoiled 😀
Love this new mechanic, thanks Corvus Belli and BoW!
Hmm not too much for my non-sectorial Ariadna force although at least I will have 4 tokens at the end of the game to cancel out the effects of LoL or retreat.
Mind you, my Tomcats are going to love this!
Command token seems like a great tool.
That is an interesting new feature. I imagine Tohaa will suffer a lot of flexibility because of all their 3 man link teams, and now the cost of reforming is high.
N3 is a huge leap! I’m definitely in!
Sounds like a very simple way of adding a lot of depth and many tactical options.
I wan’t to know more.
the new rules sound pretty interesting
Great video, loving the new mechanics already.
These Command Tokens seem to have a lot of uses! It’s going to take a while to get used to all the options and make the best use of them I think 🙂
The more I hear about N3, the more I like. Command tokens seem like a great resource management mechanic, and thematically fit. Cubes having an upside now is good.
Command tokens, you say
How convenient
Looking so good i cant wait.
I really love this kind of mechanics, they add a lot of depth to the game and can get you out of or put into very dangerous situations. These tokens also make the Lt much more interesting.
Love how the Command token feature is going to work. One more layer of strategy!
A slightly unrelated note from a different video but are there any release dates for that awesome looking painting guide?
I’m super psyched to get one, id love to know how he paints his aleph and I reallllly wanna get my hands on a copy xD
Does the Irregular->Regular command token usage work permanently?
sounds very interesting
You really want me to buy Sun Tze, don’t you?
It is always fun to see how exited people get when new stuff is being released 😀 Glad to be one of ‘m!
The new Infinity sure looks promising.
Nice adition, just will wait till december, with such videos waiting is better.
I like the sound of Command Tokens, and I think great strategists like Sun Tzu will be more effective, and see more use in N3
Can’t wait for the books
I don’t know how I feel about those new command tokens…
Very nice tactical options. The choice how to spend those will be challenging. I like that.
Glad I decided to wait before getting in to infinity, now I only need to learn the new rules and not unlearn the old ones as well. I’m getting old so it takes a while for things to sink in.
Interesting, I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
More!!! Squeeee
Ah but I love swapping between link teams and using coordinated orders!
I’m really interested to see how this works when metal hits MDF, really excited for the changes!
It keeps getting more interesting. Should be good week of infinity stuff
Corvus Belli has always been top tier in terms of creating lots of tactical choices and this seems like it’s only going to create more good ones. Keep up the good work!
poor my Caledonian army , only one man have the cube ….-_-
but my yu jing will shine ^__^
More tactical choices makes a nicer game imo
This game is really nice and i think it will cost me a lot of $$$ but it think it’s worth it 🙂
Eagerly awaiting to try this out.
It seems a nice mechanic, gives another tactical level to the game.
I like it I don’t have much Xp in the game but this sounds like a change for the better.
Great interview, can’t wait to see what is revealed next!!!
Niiiiiiice!!!
Looking great
looks really interesting
Looking forward to trying Infinity
Such an interesting new feature of the game… It will help a lot during the game!
Like it so far! Can’t wait to hear more
Looks like I’m getting into the game at the right time.
MOAR INFINITY
Command tokens will surely change your strategy decisions throughout the battle.
Neat concept, especially with freeing up a tag and combat group re-organization.
looks nice and really nice minis
Looks like they have increased the flexibility of the rules. I am a fan.
Reminiscent of soul stones in Malifaux. A very finite resource that is very powerful, can be used in a variety of ways and can be used multiple times a turn but once they are gone then they are gone for good.
Loving the tactical depth these are going to add. They strike me as being incredibly powerful if used well but so very scarce. I’m particularly liking the healing re-rolls. I like the prospect of my Trauma doc actually healing my valuable troops sometimes instead of just murdering them all 😀
Loving infinity week. already pre-ordered my rulebook.
I’d really love those Nomad boxes.
I really like this change. Makes it so much more tactical on when you should use them.
This makes me feel more confident in trying to heal/repair models. It seems as though many of my doctors learned their skills from watching slasher films.
can’t wait for 3rd. Picked up Operation Icestorm at GenCon and am chomping at the bits for the full rule book.
Excellent! Lots more options.
Obligatory post to say I want more Infinifty minis.
Very cool! I like the idea they are like lieutenant orders +.
I’m ready for a battle report!
A chance at a free Iguana Squadron!? Sign me up!!!
Sounds like a great opportunity to make a very in depth game even more interesting! Another level of resource mgt that lets you stay in the game potential even though you might have made some tactical misjudgements or been unlucky to some low value crits
Nice, can’t wait for more^^
Very tempted to pr order now …
The more I see of infinity the more I want to play it, the high grade sculpts, the interesting and distinct factions and even the fluff seems incredible.
great add for tactics ! let’s try this in 2 months
Interesting add-on. Might skip that, though, for non-competitive play. Seems like another layer of off-board micromanagement, and I like my tabletop games to play out on the table.
If it’s anything like other additions to the ruleset, it should fit in seamlessly.
Great addition wit many possibilities, could make a difference between the different stratego troops.
I wonder if there will be more difference between cube 1.0 and 2.0
The ability to break fireteams now seems a lot better
Am liking it, looks like it may play out a little bit like soul stones from 1st ed Malifaux
Good that Nomads got even more cubes than before in N3 ….
More Combos with Fireteams? Great 😀
That is an interesting mechanic. I can see a lot of options with it. Can’t wait for the full rules
I really like the concept of Resource management in Miniature Games. Command tokens is just another example of letting you make interesting decisions during the battle. I haven’t played Infinity yet, but the more I learn, the more I see the value of this addition.
You beat me to it!
Sounds so good
Second chance for my doctor- Love it!
This Command Token new feature is great. More variety and tactics.
As a newbie I don’t think I understand fully all the options that this opens, but I really like the fact that you can move soldiers from a combat group to another.
Also I love mechanics that gives you resources to mitigate dice.
Another level of tactical decisions, I like it! And i really like the re-roll for the doctors part.
Be interesting to see how big an impact this has on Aleph and sectorial with more than one fire team.
you really have to manage your tokens well. they seem to be a very usefull resource
The more I hear about 3rd edition the more excited I get
very interesting starting to very much like this game looking forward to more 🙂
Looks like a nice change overall, and should change up tactics and strategies. Looking forward to 3rd edition.
Bostria Rocks u fellas! jaja.
I really like the new Command Token, but i hope cubeless armies will not be too much penalized due to losing a very usefull application with the reroll of healing rolls.
These are going to be fun.
i like this new rules, it going to be a better game with the N3 rule set
looks like i’m getting into Infinity at the right time
Good idea. Doctors become more usefull
Cubes Rule!
Wasn’t familiar with the previous addition, but this sounds like an interesting mechanic.
I’m really interested in how this rule will work on the table.
I think tournament play just leveled up!
Well, some other interesting things to look forward to in December!
Very impressive.
I like how ti seems they changed the rules in a way to avoid powerplaying combos and tactics that aim at game the game and not play the game. That’s really a good way to improve a gaming experience no matter if it is a casual match or a tournament one. We all despise shenanigans as the empoverish gaming experience and fun so I really like this kind of direction for N3.
As for command tokens in particular we need to know much more about to see the big picture and decide 😉
As a fan of heavy gear blitz, I can say I’m thrilled to see command tokens. These sorts of powerful currencies add a whole level to a game, allowing some really dramatic assaults and spectacular recoveries.
If only I had my op icestorm to start learning how to play 🙁
Adds even more depth to the tactical choices. Good stuff!
Here’s my comment… that’s all!
Cool, cool, cool, again, cool!
the production level of your videos is always great I can’t wait to get into this game and start playing the new rules
Really liking the looks of the command tokens. I wonder what else they do 🙂
I wonder how many options they will have in the end? Carlos said that those mentioned were only a few.
Oh well. I’ll start creating linked teams correctly when 3rd edition comes out! Oops!
More tactical options – great changes!
Great video guys, keep them coming.
I will have to read the rules, but It is nice to see that cube means something!
Bernohn (bernohn.blogspot.com)
Sounds great!
Great video.
Hmmm, interesting. It’ll be good to see how this meshes with everything in the new rules.
Interesting stuff.
Awesome.
great ideas for these command token.
cubes are finally usefull !!!
looking very nice 🙂
This is a really interesting development and adds another level to the resource management mechanic. How are Tohaa and Aleph lists going to respond? Will this change their capabilities iin so far as iconically running multiple links or will they have some rule to exempt them? Will Haris count as a fire team? Hmmm.
Who let the accountants onto my battlefield?!?
No but honestly, this is a great resource to give you some flexibility with your tactics. And the doctor reroll is fantastic: I can’t even remember how often a very important guy just died, because my dice decided that a 20 would look really nice on the table right that moment.
I like the concept of this, that your army is not completely isolated from their support networks when they go into battle.
I like these changes to the Command functions. Definitely less punishing
Love how it is becoming an even more tactical game. You really need to pick a plan and reorganize quick; when it goes to hell.
More tokens to purchase.
A great addition to the game.
great stuff, cant wait for the new book, and that sweet ltd bounty hunter
I’m an Infinity newbie (have read through the 2nd Edition basic rules, but haven’t played….saving that for when my O:I arrives), but the Command tokens sound really cool. Definitely adds some neat little tricks and versatility.
A little bit complex but will add a nice layer. So many options
I have to say that is a wonderfully interesting and looking game and the art direction is amazing
I’ve only just started getting into Infinity can can’t wait for the new rule books. You never know I might get a squad painted and scenery assembled before the books are released!
So I was considering a “Scream and Leap” squad list, with a link team of Impetuous troops torpedoed up the board into enemy territory, then turned loose, followed by forming a defensive link team in my territory. Would that cost one command token to break the link, then another one to form the new one? or just one command token to transfer link team status to the new team?
Always glad to see more tactical options open up.
Sounds interesting.
Those cards look like a very convenient way to keep track of this new resource!
Like this rule. Will give players an extra level of tactics, but still looks easy to understand.
So are Command Tokens now the only way to avoid retreat?
Yes please!
A nice addition
I want Rommel as a Nomad tag commander providing an extra Command Token! (No idea how that’d come to pass in the fluff, but pleeease!) I have more ideas for an MDF creation now…
Keep it coming.
Command tokens really sounds like they make the player feel like an offsite commander doing some C2, relaying info, data, and commands to his deployed assets. Brilliant.
…looks like a really nice tactical touch…
A new dimension of the game, interesting
Sounds like a great feature.
Being able to stop a mass retreat sounds very good, but maybe do not retreat in the first place!
Like the changes so far.
little bit of complexity to fill some out some of the simplified rules. I like it.
Really interesting change. Can’t wait for N3.
This sounds awesome, so looking forward to it.
I am just getting in to Infinity. I bought the Op Icestorm Gencon edition and I just ordered E3 with the Limited edition miniature. I appreciate all the Infinity content Beast of War is producing.
I don’t know….
Looking forward to trying it out this weekend
By that i mean Operation Icestorm 🙂
That looks like it’ll be a really interesting mechanic. It’ll be cool to see how it plays out in more games.
Love these videos
Cool. Command tokens seem like they’ll add even more flexibility to an already flexible ruleset. I’m just getting to grips with regular orders and lieutenant orders, and how much you can do with a single miniature! Played Icestorm mission 2 recently and got hammered before I’d even had a turn, as my opponent poured all his orders into one miniature and “rambo’d” him up the table, guns blazing! I’d deployed very poorly mind you, thinking “there’s no way he can get me from over there”. I might have been safe in other games, but not Infinity. Lesson learned!
Command tokens are looking good.
Fantastic changes, so into my Infinity right now and my Operation Icestorm just arrived a few minutes ago ;0))
Like this a lot
This seems to add a new dimension to the game, I really like it
Nice start to the the introduction of the new rules.
Wonder if any one else will get the ADvanced command skill.
Give me that Jotum!
Just remember to give Saladin extra token 😀
Interessting changes. Finally there is an advantage of having a cube.
Can’t wait for the bat reps. I really need some reminders I haven’t played this game for quite a while
interesting new mechanic. I’m excited to see how this plays
An option to help overcome some bad luck. Not a bad idea indeed.
With every video, it just gets more and more interesting!
This sounds awesome.
Anything that can help TAGs out is good in my book.
Nice change, keen to try it out now
well interesting new tactical option. it sounds like a cool idea.
Love the new LT. rules. Thanks for staying innovative CB!
I’m not sure I like the idea of another resource that needs to be managed. However, it doesn’t look like they’ll be too onerous to deal with, and the added flexibility will be very nice,
Sounds like the command tokens will add another level of tactical depth – seems like an interesting addition!
Another great video by the BoW team. Loving Infinity week. Keep up the excellent work!
these fantastic video should there be more
I can not wait to see the book
Very interesting resource. Could be useful for some great comebacks.
Good idea for the cube bonus on medic test.
I’m interested to see if there’s any faction-specific token uses, or how they can expand them in Acheron Falls.
Command tokens, nice one!
I’ll make good use of these tokens
Playing Tohaa – I really want to see how this changes the dynamic of having 4-5+ link teams on the table with the limited nature of the tokens.
Kinda glad now that I was to broke to get into the game before N3 otherwise I could be confused by all this.
Have only been in the table top hobby for a month now, practising my painting and and assembling on ‘hand me downs’ and I felt I was finally ready to take the plunge into one wargame that gave me multiple play style options. I must say. Infinity has done that for me :’)
More tactical depth gonna be added by these for sure.
Really good stuff!
I like that they moved fire team creation to this new mechanic.
I can’t wait for N3!
Just learned about N3 and picked up Icestorm today. Now I’m working my way through the videos… and hoping I win the boxes to fill out my forces!
command token that actually have more than 1 use? i can’t wait
really great! It gets a lot of options to the game
Command tokens look to be an interesting additional mechanic to the game. The extra token for Sun Tzu gives me another reason to consider getting a Yu Jing army!
Interesting!
Looks like some cool mechanics.
The Old Man in the Mountain is watching you.
Hmmm. I realize its a rules-change video, but it would have been nice to have had a little more explanation for what these things the command token do actually mean for those of us looking to get into Infinity with 3e. I grasped the idea behind the tokens but didn’t have enough background to understand what they do specifically.
Cool
Mysterious!
A defence against PanO’s friendly-murder-specialists?! 😀
