Happy Sunday!! Nice to get my xlbs fix before work.
Happy Sunday. I wanted to try and be the first to comment, sad init?
Damn Deaddave does it again!!!
Tell you what, next sunday I’ll have a lay in for a change 😉
Lol happy Sunday to both of you too 😉
Here’s a link for you @warzan & the BOW views

Glad Söndag (happy Sunday).
http://www.aliexpress.com gets you very cheap stuff from China. I just priced out a steampunk costume for my kid for about US$40. Jacket, goggles, pocket watch & hat. Free shipping.
Happy Sunday!!
Great xlbs guys, thank you.
I think the major flaw with the paint brush stand is one of stability, if you noticed, Justin had a problem when putting the brushes onto the rack, even just touching one of the other brushes or the rack itself, jogged loose other brushes! I use a neat little circular white plastic carousel from the £1 shop, designed just for storing pens and/or brushes. I’ll get a photo posted to the forum. I also felt that, at times, Justin was like a politician, he seemed to be in opposition for opposition’s sake!
Happy Sunday! I definitely need to get one of those paint stations.
Only good thing about having the kids wake me at 5.15 is sitting watching XLBS with my corn flakes!
Wrath of Kings looks very nice. Anyone know when it goes on general release?
Feedback on the ‘Furious Bolt Action’ boot camp, I think the themed weekend is a great idea, it will help to keep participants focused, less chance for confusion on what is expected etc. I would very much like to attend this one, but it does depend mostly WHEN I get my hip replacement operation, was due 17th Feb, now been put back to 17th March, bummer!!!
New band idea!
Oily Looking Chain…
With their debut hit single: Guns Don’t Kill People – Cosplayers Do.
You knows it, bra!
The WoK minis are stunning. I’m pretty sure the rules are written by the same studio who did the Relic Knights rules, which I’m a huge fan of.
Wrath of Kings bootcamp, anyone? Anyone?
Happy sunday !
Happy Sunday, great show again, good debate about paint stations, something I always struggle with not having a fixed location to paint at.
With regard to Bolt Action boot camp, like the idea of themes, and maybe theatres like Normandy, Russian front, Italy, Desert and Pacific. But my personal view is, should the first one be an introduction to the rules, but not Tank oriented which Fury is? Should that not be another session later in the year?
Happy Sunday… Like the principle for the Bootcamp theme,, but not entirely sure fury is the best film to pick. It has a few good scenes but the majority of the film is focused on the one tank crew. And the last stand scene is so totally unrealistic. There are better films to chose , like mentioned in the green room kelly’s hero’s ( more tanks)… lol
I think you could say that the Fury theme extends into as much as it’s Americans Vs Germans? Focus on a tank and a squad (squads) of men and keep it very tight to learning about the ways to paint and play with those specific units.
Away from that you could just say it’s an ‘Assault on Normandy’ Boot Camp (based on that original boxed set from Warlord) where it’s just American troops fighting into German held territory.
…also any excuse for John to get to watch Fury again I imagine 😉
Remember it’s really for a evenings entertainment and a setup for a few scenarios 🙂
We have to take into consideration what the cinema can get 🙂
Fair points..:-)
You call Fury’s last scene unrealistic then say Kelly’s Heroes would be better? 🙂 …just…..just pointing that out there. 😉
I personally would say the battle scenes in Kelly’s Hero’s were more realistic even if the plot was far fetched.
The battles were good, no doubt. In regards to Fury, I always refer to Audey Murphy. And I think that’s where David Ayer got the idea for the final scene. So in reality, not so far fetched. SURE, its blinged up a bit with some improbable moments, but at the heart of it is Audey Murphy.
True they were well filmed, I can see what you mean about the Audrey Murphy thing. I think most of the scenes in Fury were well done, but the last scene was over cooked a wee bit.
Always with the Negative waves…
Have a little faith, baby. Have a little faith. 🙂
Kelly’s Heroes is just one of those movies that “gets a pass” on so many levels for so many reasons. The plot is a little silly. The tank-on-tank combat at the end is slightly better, but the Tigers run around with the blazing speed (like the T-34-family vehicles they actually are). But . . . for some reason, SOME reason, it’s still one of my favorite movies ever.
I’ve tried to run Kelly’s Heroes in a series of game systems, and I think Flames of War came out with an “army list” for them that is actually hilarious. The problem is, for those who are familiar with a movie . . . sooner or later you have to put one damaged Sherman and a depleted squad up against three Tigers and a platoon of German infantry. 🙁
It’s takes a lot of Hollywood glitz to tip those scales back into balance.
Great xlbs as usual guys. @lloyd For storing dropper models and being able to recognise the different colours from above what I did with my army painter set was squeeze a drop of each colour onto its lid so that when it dries you can clearly see one from another even when their ranked up in a container. Has saved me goodness knows how much time!
Should have watched the end of the show first lol 😉
Wrath of Kings wolves look astoundingly like Confrontation Wolfen.
That is no criticism by the way, in fact I’d happily use the two in the same army.
Wrath of Kings is born out of a load of artwork that former Rackham artist extraordinaire Edouard Guiton did for an abandoned project. Rather than let it go to waste, the studio who owned the artwork teamed up with CMoN to turn it into a minis game.
That explains it then, thanks.
As said, no criticism, confrontation minsi are still some of my all time favourites. Indeed, Master of Carnage, which is a devourers mini but a kind of wolfen, is still my vote for all time best 28mm sculpt.
They’re some of my all-time favourites too. I’ve still got some Wolfen and Devourers.
As an aside, the quality of the plastic in terms of detail, lack of mould lines, and lack of warping is hugely impressive. Soft plastic has come a long way in the last few years.
Love the Wrath of Kings stuff. I went in mainly to get the Zombiecide figures but added a Goritzi starter.
I deeply regret not going all in now that I have them. The figures are f***ing stunning.
For some reason I have a habit of going all in on the ones that turn out to be garbage and either don’t bother with or only dabble a bit with, those that turn out to be amazing. God my instincts are crap. Lol
I love the idea of paint racks but there are much better ones out there than the Bandua ones (imho). The flat stand is good for those with limited space as it still allows you to keep your paints safe and tidy without taking up all of your work top. The shelved version is good for ease of use but makes for a lot of dead space.
Devils advocate time…
There are several things to bear in mind with limiting the boot camp. What if people all pick the same army? For instance what if everyone picks Germans..? What if I don’t want to be either Germans or USA but want to do British. People shouldn’t be penalised just because they don’t want one of the armies that are offered. Especially as they have to pay for the privilege.
This bootcamp is financially a non-starter for me so whatever the format is it won’t affect my attendance. If I was considering going, the proposed format would put me off. I’d much rather get to experience playing and playing against a variety, and I wouldn’t want to have to play a US army because all the German slots were already taken up. Like I say, I’m not attending regardless, so greater credence should obviously be given to the opinions of potential attendees. I’m mainly expressing mine with an eye to future bootcamps.
Personally, I could probably get the money and the time off shouldn’t be an issue. Hell I even already want to collect the Germans as my mates have just expressed an interest in starting Bolt Action.
But the format gets a big two fingers from me and so I won’t be bothering with this one. 🙁
And to bring out a point I didn’t make as clear as I could have. It’s not just the weekend itself, but the fact that I’d be buying an army to take home with me and keep using it.
That was one of the points I was making in my original post. 🙂
People shouldn’t have to pay for an army they don’t really want in the first place.
So what army would you pick?
Just a quick run down of some pros and cons as I see them 🙂
Pros
With two forces (12 on each side) we simplify the learning experience a fair bit so people can get up to speed a bit quicker
Theming it with a movie (fury) allows us to fairly strongly add some narrative to the weekend, where people can relate to what they saw on the Friday night
People might feel a bit more confident
Cons
You wouldn’t get to pick Brits or Soviets (a boot camp was probably unlikely to offer Fins or French or Romanians etc)
You would be playing with and against the same armies (but I would hope the scenarios and adding units gradually would mean that’s not going to get boring for a new player)
You might dislike the movie (but then again everyone dislikes something so that’s not easy to factor for)
Any others for each list?
I’d add an extra con to the list –
With 12 slots on each side, the last people to sign up may have no choice in the army they get.
Putting the needs of the event first… Do you think a balance of armies would be better than say an in even mix?
That really depends on the wishes of the attendees, which need to come first else there is no event. If you can fill 24 places with attendees who are happy to split two armies evenly between them then the event comes first. If not then you’ll have to be flexible else you have no event for it to come first. I would offer a “no preference” option on the booking form when asking which army the attendee wants. That may help avoid the situation where 12 of the first 18 attendees request German and the last six people to sign up are forced to take US.
Ok how about getting warlord to help and instead of having a starter army give everyone a few Germans and a few yanks so you can have the best of both worlds.
@Warzan…
In all honesty as I said above, i’d pick Germans. I was just trying to point out what could be a flaw in the plan.
As for
“(a boot camp was probably unlikely to offer Fins or French or Romanians etc)”
Why…?
Do they not have figures and books…? OK so the figures are metal rather than plastic, but the fact the Resistance for Dropzone were more expensive resin didn’t stop you offering those.
And on the topic of Dropzone Commander. Why didn’t you limit what people could have in that…? As it currently stands NONE of the pros you listed for Bolt Action will apply and yet you don’t seem to have an issue with that.
( Again I should point out. – I’m not meaning to be arsey in any way. I’m just voicing my dislikes/concerns. )
@commodorerob …
That could lead to the same problem I have with the 2 player box set. I haven’t bought either of them because nobody I know wants to play the Americans and I don’t want to pay for something that wont be used.
Remember the bootcamps are aimed at new players primarily so putting some limitations in place should actually make the experience more enjoyable for them.
You are correct we didn’t limit DZC and we’ll see how that goes but I also see we have a single shaltari player 🙂
These events have a purpose (new player intense introductions) we want to make them themed and straight forward.
If the events continue to do well we will introduce quite a number of varieties, so I’m really not inclined to try and fit everything into one, as I don’t think that will actually make the experience better.
I’m really focusing on creating great events that if your into it, your gonna have an amazing time, if your not… Then keep an eye out for the next one because when you do see the one for you, we’ll be working to make that just as awesome as the others 😉
If the DzC bootcamp only offered two armies it may affected my decision to attend. Even if no-one had selected Shaltari, that still leaves four armies, and that they did means 24 people given a free and open choice without discussion between them chose all five available armies.
There may well be sound narrative reasons for limiting army selection for a campaign weekend. I wouldn’t be concerned about multiple armies posing too much of a challenge to get to grips with, though.
12 games with 24 people will also see the pros / cons for the two army’s 12 peoples may play the same army 12 different ways?
And I’m not ruling out that kind of event, and I’m looking forward to the DZC event immensely 🙂
But there is more than one way to skin a cat, and I think it’s worth exploring.
If it doesn’t work or looks like it won’t work then these things can change. I think it will be good to change things up though as I’m not sure a formulaic approach is the way to go either.
We’ll see how it goes, and a lot of it is dependant upon getting a private screening!
It looks like Fury will be on dvd long before May. If you can’t get a private screening could you get a projector hooked up to a computer and play the movie in the large room you had all the chairs in during the week? If you can, it means you can screen a movie for any weekend you host.
Omfg , have you seen the house goritsi other models , not just the warpuppies…
http://wrathofkings.com/ks/factions/house-of-goritsi/
Look at the wardancers…….
I have never ever said this , but i would also use them as harlequins ( as well as w.o.k models)
Oh aye. That’s why I added the starter to my Zombiecide only order. (That I reallyregret as I really with I’d bought everything now that I have them. Lol )
I don’t know it it is supposed to be like it but one of my Dance masters has a deformed face. It’s just a smooth blob with a hole where one of the eyes should be. It might be a defect but either way it still looks awesome.
Only thing I dislike about the idea for the bolt action bootcamp – is the date no way I can get a freepass for it as it is the wife’s birthday
You know what would be an awesome birthday present for the wife… 😉
We used to live in Dublin so a trip to the emerald Isle will not earn me a lot of points
I was more thinking getting her a ticket for the BA weekend lol
FURY FURY FURY Lets go!!!!!!!
The FBABC (‘Furious Bolt Action Boot Camp’) is a great idea.
I think that a thematic weekend fits well historical wargaming avoiding ‘strange battles’ like early french fighting against japanese troops.
Here you can build a very immersive campaign for the players with linked scenarios.
US Army vs. German may be the mandatory choice for this first Bolt Action Boot Camp.
Already have late war germans (with a STUG III) so I would pick US troops.
Additional thought on the BA I would have to go for the yanks … I have a small Japanese force already so logically having two axis forces makes no sense to me.. although never really been a massive fan of the ww2 yanks… hmm did anyone notice that large British and contingent in Fury…haha…lol
A little tip for storing brushes is to use something that allows you to store underside down. It means any moisture in the brush doesn’t go down into the metal part and should help prolong the life of the brush.
Easiest way to do that is to keep the plastic caps that come with the brushes. Then I put them in old spice jars (washed out ofc) to stand them up.
Themed book camps sounds good. Can’t do this one but would change the world around to come to the Bridge to Far boot camp.
Now that’s one that would allow for more than two countries on the battlefield and also give Lloyd loads of fun building the boards.
I think themed Bootcamps for Bolt action is a grand idea. You can theme them all on movies. Sands of Iwo Jima, Enemy at the Gate, Saving Private Ryan all giving you two armies to focus on but also a good mix of the armies available and not having the same two facing off all the time. Just wish I could make it to one but living in New Zealand makes it a bit out of reach
I use a tiered pant station that allows you to store dropper bottles upside down si it’s real easy to see the colours.
I use a tiered paint station that allows you to store dropper bottles upside down so it’s real easy to see the colours.
My main concern with arranging my hobby space is that I have to use the dining room table and pack everything away to stop my two year old daughter from getting to it. So I store my paints in a small drawer unit. One draw for colours (arranged by colour), one for washes and one for foundations and drys (I only use GW paints). I keep my current project on a hobby tray along with all my brushes and the paints that I need for that session.
I also paint the lids of the pots to make finding the colours easy. If you get into the habit of painting each pot as they are used or purchased you can soon sort out your entire collection. Just remember the wet lid when you close the pot!
I can understand some people like to jump between multiple projects. But even when I had lots of space and could leave things out for weeks at a time I only ever work on one thing at once.
Rackham lives again! 😀
Wrath of Kings looks astounding- I wish I’d had the money to back the KS at the time- do we have any idea when the range will be on general release?
Off to download the rules now…
My 1:16th tiger! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=232002086823838&set=vb.100000421442928&type=3&theater
Only a cheap plastic RC one, cost me £89 😀 and it shoots BB’s
On paint racks, I have over 300 pots, started painted lids, a nice afternoon painting, and it gives you a visual of the ‘dry colour’ alternatively you can just put the pots in upside down, so you see the colour but not label, also not showing the dried colour
this is a snapshot of my desk, paints on desk are for ‘current’ projects, then i have a shop display stand as storage under the desk 😀 https://www.facebook.com/PeacheyModels/photos/a.437617006353750.1073741832.325499084232210/713940428721405/?type=3&theater
Fury bootcamp! YES!
I’m with @redben for a Wrath of Kings bootcamp than and a Halo bootcmp when it arrives
@citygary speaks wise words 🙂
Im into the Fury theme…now make sure you give us all good notice before the order forms go up. Im actually working nights now at the minute too and getting to the form at the right time, or even hearing about its publishing in time, may or may not be difficult. And work can get fairly hectic at times so …
Cheers Warren et all, good show once
I quite like the theme. Will give good ideas to take home and keep the whole event streamlined. The notice is very helpful so i can keep an eye out. looking forward to it
Western front?!?!?!
What is this “Fury”?
I’ve got a 13 strong T34 brigade sitting here all so lonely on the Eastern front 🙁
No but honestly, I think it’s a cool idea, I don’t really need a boot camp in BA, but would come along for the shits and giggles.
And the Sherman can alway be Lent-Lease when you get home
Warbases do a dropper bottle rack like teh one you showed but stands vertically so that you can see the colours
I’ll pitch in on the bootcamp theme idea here. Since it was kind of my fault for showing Warren a scene that made him …make noises I found concerning.
If we take “FURY” as a loose theme. You have infantry and armour attacks, some tank on tank (giggity!) Ambushes and all sorts. So really, as far as theme goes, it’s rather all-encompassing witch a slant towards how to use infantry and tank together. It would make for some interesting battles “Infantry must clear 2 buildings in a village before the armour moves up. Tanks cannot activate until building A and B have been cleared.” That’s how I see it an example scenario playing out.
I think the bootcamp could “POSSIBLY” be expanded to encompass an idea of tank/infantry relations (giggity!) while still remaining in the loose theme of Fury. But that’s me, you know me by now,
MOAR TANKS! STORM THE FRONT MOOOAAARRR TTTEERRRRNNNKKKS!
@johnlyons you are right there is no such thing as too many tanks – On another mater do you know of any one that make a 28 mm T35 -Yes I did say 35 as in the multi-gun multi-turret pre/early war Soviet madness?
When i was looking for paints storage it took me a while before i found the sort of thing i was after. The option i eventually opted for was this: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-ultimate-paint-rack-by-massive-voodoo . If you want one you’ll need to petition them to make more as the orders for the batch they had made are done for this indiegogo campaign, but it’s worth looking at to see the utility of the rack they designed. Their video explains why it’s a good option so i’ll let that do the talking. What follows are my thoughts on the other styles of paint racks and why i was reticent to buy them.
Whilst i thought that the ‘artai’ tiered style of paints storage you linked to is probably the best option when using my paints because it allows me to see all the paints at any one time, the problem i think i’d have with it is when it comes to storing a lot paints as that style of rack takes up a lot of space per paint pot. For each extra row of paints you have after the first the rack takes up double as many rows worth of space as it already takes up in rows of paints in addition to the extra row of paints in order to get the height for the tiering; that is you need 4 rows of space for 2 rows of paint ( 1 ( the ‘ground floor’ row ) + 1 ( the ‘first floor’ row ) + 1 ( the empty ‘first floor’ support row ) + 1 ( the empty space above the ‘ground floor’ row ) ); or 9 rows of space for 3 rows of paint ( 1 ( the ‘ground floor’ row ) + 1 ( the ‘first floor’ row ) + 1 ( the ‘second floor’ row ) + 1 ( the empty ‘first floor’ support row ) + 2 ( the empty ‘second floor’ support rows) + 2 ( the empty space above the ‘ground floor’ row ) + 1 ( the empty space above the ‘first floor’ row ) ). The artai paint rack you linked to takes up 16 rows of space for 4 rows of paint. You can fit 40 GW paint pots on that rack, so if you had all the GW paints you’d need around 4 racks, which means you need 64 rows of space for 16 rows of paints. That’s a lot of storage space taken up by nothing.
Another option i looked at was was the ‘flat rack’ style paints storage, which is good for storage ( if it comes in a box and can be stacked ) but isn’t so good when in use as i found that with all my paints laid out horizonally i need to get up and look over the paints each time i want another paint, and then i need to search over a largely homogenously organised flat landscape of pots to pick out the paint i want. This situation is made worse if i’m not actually certain what it is i want in terms of colour as the intrinsic discrimination in the rack between groups of paints in criss-crossing rows is less obvious than with tiers, and the situation is made worse again if the paint pots i’m using don’t indicate the colour on the top.
Another option was the vertical ‘wine bottle’ style rack in which pots are stored like wine bottles, which essentially i could see having the same issues as the ‘flat rack’ style paints storage.
And then finally i looked at the vertical ‘bookcase’ style storage in which pots are stored upright. This, like the tiered system, i though looked like it would be good when in use for selecting paints, and also it doesn’t take up so much storage space for ’empty’ support space, though if you have a banister preventing the paints falling off the shelves some empty space is needed above the pots of paint to enable you to lift them up and over the banisters to take them out for use. The other problem i found with option was that it wasn’t available commercially so that means i’d have to make it.
So none of the options available appealed to me until i found the massive voodoo option. I’ve bought 2 of their racks and they are due to arrive sometime this February or March. I’ll endeavour to give you some feedback when they arrive and i’ve had the chance to use them.
Thanks for the detailed thought process, and the link. The Massive Voodoo racks do look very good.
Like the themed idea – could see it working for a number of historical games, but can’t believe you passed up the chance of having “Saving Private Warren”..
great show guys
The Wrath of Kings models are incredibly engineered. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like them in the market. I think we have a new standard by which to measure other offerings in plastic.
Happy Sunday!
To store your paint is always something one can get mad. I’m still searching for the perfect system. As for my living circumstances it is important to clean up the place I paint and store all away. So this is how my workspace looks like this afternoon. It’s a compromise, to have enough at hand and still be able to take everything in a big transport box to move it to a friends house, if we meet there for a painting session.
…hmm picture is a little bit small, try this:
Is that the massive voodoo paint brush box?
I think the theming of Bolt Action weekend is a great idea. I personally would love to attend. A con I can see arising down the line is that the common enemy are Germans therefore people who like and want to play Germans will have to outnumber everybody else considerably otherwise you will have no takers for future events as those attending the first one will already have an army.
I doubt that will become much of an issue – as the Germans have the most iconic stuff.
Ohh . . . look at that Tiger. 😀 That thing is gorgeous.
Yes, but I am amazed by the amount it have cost so far – but my gods, I desire my neighbours toys looking at it 😉
So what’s a “fat pack”?
Do you mean buying a display box of boosters?
They come with 9 boosters and some bells and whistles – http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/magic-the-gathering/dragons-of-tarkir/dragons-of-tarkir-fat-pack/prod_32075.html
A box of boosters would seem much more cost effective though obviously has a higher up-front cost. Last time I regularly played CCGs we bought them by the case, though looking to get back into them now I think I’d probably do deck lists and make them with singles rather than blind buys.
Like the idea of the theme Bolt Action boot camp, adds to the whole visual ambiance experience with the film thrown in.
Maybe the next BA theme bootcamp can be “Ice Cold in Alex” set in North Africa theatre, Desert Rats vs Afrika Korp/Italians, but the best bit is the drinking of the Carlsberg at the end, (you need to see the film, rumoured it took 9 takes to get right).
I will be painting my Teknes pig men and light shade of green.
comments…NEED…edit function.
Sunday mornings are no good for typing.
“Painting my Pig men a light shade of green”
Interesting show, regretting not grabbing wrath of kings. I am still working up my painting set up – although I have never been one of project painting a lot of my armies/paint schemes tend to use core colours so splitting my paints would just make things a pain.
With regard to the bootcamp, I am not in a position to look at this one so doesn’t really matter but personally I think it is the antithesis of what I look for in an event. The bootcamp idea appeals but limited forces put me off, although could be good for a campaign weekend, it very much forces you down a certain route. Multi-player games are very much the old GW store staple and I feel fairly poor for learning and provide generally weak play experiences unless it is something you have worked towards with a known group.
However, I have never participated in the games day participation games for the same reason – its all a lot of noise and and can very quickly lead to being isolated with very little to do, or wiped out. Team games can be fantastic but that to me is a team that has prepped and working towards a larger gaming experience. Neither however offer a genuine opportunity to get into nitty-gritty of mechanics and get a sense for the flow and play of a game if you are new to it. Offering it as a campaign weekend might be a better idea? Just my thoughts, and either way you won’t lose my interest as it is not a option for me atm.
I suppose my main sticking point is how nitty gritty can you expect to get on (what is likely to be) your first weekend playing a game.
And are you more likely to get that where support isnt split across to many forces and half of the group are in the same boat as you, there for sharing ideas and tactics with more people to whome they will apply?
I would say one weekend, including a Friday evening cracking the cellophane, if playing with my gaming friends – you would be able to get the core mechanics locked down, the individual rules for anything your using 90% of the way, including any ‘special’ rules and if the ‘army’ rules are complex about 70-80% solid. I will caveat that with games such as Malifeux and warmachine/hordes with unit synergies will take considerably longer to learn. I could of course be biased as the people I game with are all experienced with multiple systems and frequently pick up new games and rules sets – so we are generally pretty quick to grasp the core mechanics and flow, then it digging into the nitty-gritty normally after the third game.
I also think individual games allow for looking at situations and resolving them easier, and that’s working without support. Of course a larger game may throw up more example and that is then shared across the group but at the expensive of a more jolting play experience possibly?
However a lot depends on the learn styles of the participants and the approach to learning the rules adopted. When I was running GW Sunday beginner games generally we found smaller group got to grasp with the rules more effectively and had a better understanding – obvious age group and attention spans play a part within that. Sorry former teacher, so learn styles is something I can witter about for hours.
Also with regards to bolt action, I have the rules and have read them, army rules seem fairly basic – obviously from a non-played perspective, so do you believe the differences in the armies is that massive as to cause an issue? as I said just my thoughts. Just with my event organisers head on this sounds like a fairly cool campaign weekend, but not a great beginners experience, given the detail available.

Impudent Mortals makes reverse dropper racks that can even be wall mounted. You can clearly see the colors and, some brands, such as Reaper paints, make their labels so that the color name is printed at both top and bottom of the label. just for top down storage. Warpaints work well, just upside down.
Happy Sunday to y’all . Awesome show thank you, love the ideal of a theme for your boot camps. Maybe y’all should space them out a little , maybe do 4 a year or so. Just don’t want you guys to get all messed up with them , plus it gives some of us the time to pick vacations to try make 1 or 2 a year. I have to pick my vacations in November for the up and coming year ( dam work ) . But love the whole boot camp thing. Thank you for the ideas on the paint racks any chance you could do a thing on next weekender about all of the different types of paint racks, there has to be more than just one company making them? Hay if anybody knows any other companies that make them please let me know I have a very small area to work with and must stack up . Thanks and you all have a great week , see next Sunday.
There’s two and half months between the DzC and Bolt Actions boot camps which would average out as five per year. It might seem less because they went on sale close together.
Yeah we’re trying to announce earlier to give people more notice, but at the moment 6 a year is probably as far as well get 🙂
love the figures for the game especially the wolf things like the paint stations. love your tank john great show guys.
BoW BA Fury weekend great idea and if I wasn’t out of country, I would be most definitely handing my cash over. The project has to start somewhere and Fury is a great starting point, then it can traverse from there and BoW can then almost do a gaming weekend each month concentrating on all the different games out there, thus pleasing all the community, as we all get something different.
For me it’s historical and 40k, the rest doesn’t really float, but enjoy the whole BoW experience.
So don’t be dishearten a lot of negative vibes have been expressed for FBAWE, you build it and the ones that want to be there will.
Please live blog it / video it for those of us that can’t, but can still experience the weekend from afar.
Guys you are doing a great job and the site is a godsend for one so far away.
How I take care of paints and brushes. I am colorblind (grey green) which means that I don’t see shades of colors all that well. This has lead me to use paint guides with numbers and follow Romain @elromanozo in his video on color theory. I then use the trays with a small paint rack so that I have the colors I need in one location and they are usually organized by number. My brushes all go into cheap pen and pencil boxes.
The color blindness doesn’t stop me from painting just makes me work differently than anyone else.
Can you guys remove the video adds? There is nothing more annoying than watching the XLBS or another video and having to pause it, minimize the screen and Click pause or mute on a video for a Truck that decided it needs to play at the same damn time…
There should be no video ads on a backstage video (ever!)
Only YouTube hosted videos might have an ad.
I’m not sure what you are seeing, is it one of our partner ads or some obscure ad (check your machine for malware)
No, no malware on my machine. It only happens when I open the XLBS page.,..
I have no problem with a themed event for the boot camp and the format being discussed would not deter me. However I would prefer a themed event with more choice of starter armies though! I’ve been looking at bolt action for a while, but I’m not fussed by either the yanks or Germans. As such it niggles me that my introduction to bolt action is going to be with a starter set I wouldn’t be keeping.
What I really want though is a boot camp schedule for the year. I will only be able to make 1 weekend this year (a 44 year father of two young kids, just doesn’t get free weekends, they’re like rocking horse pooh) and I’d love to be able to save it for the boot camp I really want. I’d be gutted if I committed to bolt action to then see drop commanders new space combat game or wrath of kings boot camp crop up later in the year.
Any chance a loose schedule could make it onto a show Warren? Pretty please!?!?
If I could I would, but this is all new to us and a work in progress 🙂
A lot of bits required to be able to say ‘this is going to happen’ 🙂
We will get more ‘on it’ over time though in sure.
Only thought on the schedule for expected future weekends would it would allow those of us from another hemisphere to possibly plan a trip over or up. This would be a few days of a vacation including the rest of the major British Isles hot spots, like Big Ben and Stonehenge.
That is why I am excited for these to continue and grow as it will give me a chance to plan something out and try to get a visit in.
We are also looking into how we help people come to an event and then stay a few extra days and have a tour of the area and sights etc 🙂
More on this in the coming weeks, but yes we are working to fill a calendar of events now to make this kind of thing easier for people to plan around.
Totally understand mate, I’ll get to one this year, if it kills me!
After mulling it over for a bit of time. I just going to say about the bootcamp that no matter if it is Fury themed or themed on something else (even open choice of all armies). The important thing is that it have to be said up front. Then the choice can be made before signing up – is a Fury weekend something that is for me or not
100% agree with this, just because it doesn’t appeal to some it maybe ideally to others
Love those dog’s with choppers, when do they go on general sale?
To store paint I use a nail varnish wall stand, they fit citadel vallejo paints really well and as they are clear I can see the whole pot.
Its also a great help with clearing space on the table.

they are still on ebay for £22.19

Forget the Fury theme @warzan lets go Girls und Panzer, John can show us how to paint pink Shermans and we can all dress as Japanese schoolgirls.
Nah mate I get tired of watching @dignity & @john prancing around in that gear all week 😉
Other than that mine no longer fits, (rides up at the arse a bit)
😉
First, awesome XLBS as always gents–rambling, paint organization (or lack thereof), and a healthy dose of humor…no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Second, Warren, what does the cost (whatever it may be) cover for the bootcamps? Lodging, entry fee, food etc. or just the cost of the event? Either way it sounds like an awesome opportunity 🙂
It includes accommodation and food 🙂
Maybe a question better left replied to in the inbox, but what are some suggestions for travel–airline/airport wise to start getting an idea of what that’ll run?
If it helps, my journey is a flight to Belfast International, a bus to Belfast, and a train to Coleraine. The bus and train are about £30 combined for the return journey.
MDF paint storage. This is the one I use:

They are great mounted to the wall of your paint area.
I want in on the ‘fury’ Boot Camp. My wife said I could go 🙂
If only the Boot Camps were not so far from Denver CO…
This may seem silly, but it’s cheap. I use a Thread Rack to hold my paints. You have to wrap something around the spindles (I use the same thin wire that I use for pinning). It holds about 60 paints in dropper bottles and runs runs about 15US.
As to the stand up vs tray debate, I completely agree with Justin. My painting sessions tend to be rather short and focused amongst a small set of colors. I can then keep the rest of my paints in a drawer or other easy location.
Hi Gang, thanks for a nice XLBS. Always enjoy and worth the price of admission. On the subject of painting and paint storage. I have a nice vertical eyedropper bottle holder. Holds about 120 bottles horizontally at a slight angle. Takes up very little room and to solve the color search problem whenever I get a batch of paint in I always put a drop on a plate and dip the cap top into it. This allows for easy identification when searching for my next color. On painting I keep a journal in a small notebook of colors used for each project and include the mixtures I use. Lastly, I love the bootcamp ideas, and would love to come to the Furious Bolt Action weekend. Unfortunately my savings are going to purchase my M1 Garand instead. Jealous yet John?
well i for one am really looking forward to this boot camp as a fury theme doesn’t bother me hell they could have picked a worse WW2 movie to theme it on :p
i am just happy to possibly be there with them for my Birthday but i REALLY need to know how much its going to be.
a Dust Bootcamp would be great
A Warzone Boot camp, a Infinity Boot Camp… hell… I can’t think of one boot camp [except an GW game] that I would not want to attend…
Pigs und blankets
I’m not much of a historic Warhammer but love the idea of a fury boot camp.. I’m just waiting for the right bootcamp to come along that I would want to be 100% involved in.. Also no matter how hard you try to keep your paints in order there will always be one that messes it up
War gamer*
In for the Fury! Sounds awesome!
@warzan – I think the theme proposal for the bootcamp is a good idea, even though it makes the event less attractive to me. In fact, that’s one of the advantages: If DZC sold out in 24 hours, you’ll have no trouble selling BA tickets, whatever you do with the event. Narrowing the scope of it increases the chances of everyone coming being on the same page, and I do think that having the film, the specific painting/modelling advice, and the multiplayer games will make for a great event.
Personally, I’m more interested in the early war period, so probably thinking that I’ll save my pennies this time. Although that said, I will consider the price and what else I’m trying to do, and will consider it because I think it will be a very fun event (and I missed Fury at the cinema!).
If you do go with the theme, then a couple of suggestions to at least think about:
1) You could have slightly more than 2 options… Say British and American as well as German. They may not have all fought in the same battle, but they were all fighting in roughly the same area, so you won’t dilute your theme too much and you give people a bit more flexibility.
2) You could allow people more options within their choice. So instead of everyone having a sherman and a squad or a panther and a squad (which by the 4th game could be getting pretty dull), you allow people to pick from several different tanks / artillery pieces and squads. This way your games will be a bit more varied.
Im really tempted by the Bandua exhibiter set, I think that has more potential for “project 1” etc. All the paints for one scheme are in a run/slot/channel what ever you want to call it and they are conveniently angled for my desk.
Im a bit peeved at the delay from Coolmini in delivering the Wrath of Kings KS pledges, and even more so now you guys have further wet our appetites. Did you guys get any inclination from the as to when they would be shipping the stuff out to stores?
On the subject of lid painting, I found it (although ultra beardy) useful to divide each lit into 3rd, then paint each with a white, grey and black primer, then paint over them all with the color in the bottle.
That way you know exactly what each shade of “yellow” will look like on each primer.
That’s not the starter.
There are starters for each faction that say STARTER BOX
For example, the House Teknes Starter Box contains:
12x Union Worker (R1 Infantry)
2x Union Boss (R1 Leader)
12x Lineman (R1 Infantry)
2x Lineman Controller (R1 Leader)
1x Zaalak (R1 Support)
1x Galvanic Defender (R1 Support)
Fury! 😛
Thanks for a great XLBS! The bootcamps sounds really awsome and if a game that´s on my radar comes up later this year, I´ll probably go for it. Wrath of Kings looks stunning… just saying 😉
Hello guys,
nice Show again, thanks a lot.
to Warren and the bootcamp: I love the idea, but I would do it later.
For people like me, that want to get into the hole thing it makes more sense to start with the Basic game and not with the tnak war. It may be a game on it´s own, but it is a Addition to the core game as well.
That means I´d love to come to the boot camp, but I would prefer the core game to start with, and do the tank war later that year or next year. I think (as cool as the idea is) it makes more sense.
It is that FURY is a new film, but there are so much better movies about WW2 then that unrealistic bagger. so UBER american. Normaly love all warmovies but fury did not ring my bells, the only good thing was there where real props, ( owned by englisch old chap seen discovery show)
Band of brothers 1 is the serie to see
