I am so stoked about Dungeon Saga since the demo video!! This is the second time your videos sold me on Mantic games (Kings of War) and i can’t wait for the next wave of Kickstarter campaigns.
Loving the look of the ‘Tome Storage’, someone should trademark that.

Wow, now that’s a nice ton of stuff. I like the box. It really stands out from everything we can see on the market at the moment. Warren is right, they should make empty ones too. The cards are amazing, but the figures and furniture for the tiles gives the game just. It is something I have been waiting for a very very long time.

Every time I see Dungeon Saga it looks better and better. It really does look like a gateway game.
One thing that would be interesting for them to make available, whether themselves or in partnership with KR or Battlefoam, would be inserts for these amazing boxes to store the figures once painted etc etc..
Can’t wait to play this with my Thursday, Saturday and Sunday night crew. This is a game that makes me fee like I’m playing a game from my youth again, and know that has the possibility to bring the family to the table.

Dungeon Saga is looking very good indeed. But, I have a question, how expandable is the game beyond the campaign within the box? Can you create your own dungeons, heroes and villains or are you limited to the scenarios within the game? Also, are there plans afoot for different floor-plans and/or plastic dungeon corridors/rooms etc? I hope this game has scope to expand far beyond what is in the box, as it stands it certainly looks promising. This might even become a regular in our weekly RPG sessions.
They are releasing a Adventurer’s Companion as well, that includes rules for most (if not all) of the miniatures in the world of Mantica (from their Kings of War range). This allows you to create your own scenarios to put your group through. I for one can not wait to introduce my gaming group to the nastiness of the Goblin Mincer, while trapped in one of the longer corridors. However will our adventurers get out of this messy situation? 😉

Treasure can only be found in chests? Also, weren’t they going to include some cards for additional enemies in the box at one point, rather than being focused solely on what enemies are in the box?

NO ONE should own Monopoly. It’s the single biggest reason people think they don’t like board games, and that’s not surprising since it’s a horrible game.
Risk is pretty dire as well.
I own both but wish I didn’t.

I’m exactly the same as @warzan – Dungeon Crawling was my first introduction to the hobby, and to this day it’s still what my mates and I play when we can manage to find the time to all get together.

This definitely ticks the right boxes for me. Heroquest was awesome. It was my first experience of gaming. I had the adventure design kit, and I used to love creating my own dungeon layouts.
I’m glad mantic have already made this open ended, with tools to make your own characters and adventures, rather than just a play-through of the story in the box.
One suggestion though: it needs a screen! What is a dungeon master without a screen to peer over?
When Ronnie secretly announced the packaging at Adepticon I was excited but to see it madexreal is amazing!
I am sooo excited for this game. And I’m even more excited to see all the attention and interest it is getting by people who missed the Kickstarter. The Kickstarter backers helped get this project off the ground, but it’s you guys who are going to launch it into the stratosphere. It’s for this reason I’m one of the people who has no problem with Mantic releasing a pre-order exclusive which us Kickstarter backers don’t automatically get (but still have ways to get our hands on) 🙂
I think Dungeon Saga has a very bright future ahead of it indeed, with lots of supplements and expansions yet to come 😀 Our heroes’ tale is just beginning…

We went to mantic earlier this week to pick up our KOW kickstarter and spoke to Rich about Dungeon Saga. So annoyed we missed the kickstarter but will definitely be getting it on release.
This game looks awesome! I’m looking forward to follow the gameplay over the weekend.
I know mantic are doing expansions for Orc based and demon based dungeons, and I know they are going to be selling the existing dungeon furniture separately.
Will they also be expanding the range of tiles and furniture? I’d like to be able to buy extra tiles, a wider variety of furniture, and potentially booster sets for extra villains.
The Kickstarter had an expansion consisting of entirely new tiles (Black Fortress), which I’m sure will be available for retail some way down the road. And if demand and interest is big enough, who knows where this will end up 😉
I’m in the same boat as many here, I suppose.
When the kickstarter was going on the funds weren’t available to back it. At least now I know I can order a copy; though it usually sucks to buy retail because you don’t get all the kickstarter exclusive stuff and it’s usually more expensive.
Less stuff for more money! Yay!
But you do get the exclusive Legendary Mortibris miniature, so it isn’t all bad 😉

Nice vid. Looks like Mantic really put some thought into the experience from a gamer point of view. Also nice to see them shift from their frankly awful art direction for the game mini’s.
I had calmly and without any fuss had an awareness of Dungeon Saga, not having been locked up in a … well… dungeon… for the last year or so. Until I sat and watched this unboxing! Soooo many memories of playing Hero Quest with my old man and brother flooding back!
Now thinking “My niece would enjoy a nice little board game, it’s not for me, honest, it isn’t, it isn’t!!!”….
This is looking so awesome! Mantic have really improved their quality standards with this game! Compared to the old “restic” days. For this reason alone, their reliance on Kickstarter has been justified.
What a box of goodies – loving the 2.5D furniture – all fingers and toes are crossed for the win.

I love the plastic accessories. Still owning Hero Quest I still have the cardboard book case with plastic side holders. These pieces are much nicer. I own Super Dungeon Explore and Forgotten King. The tables and thrones and such would make great add-ons for that so I am happy to hear they are going to sell the feature pieces separately.
Very impressive. Mantic has put alot of thought in this product. The quickstart will make it alot easier to get my fiancee to play this game with me.

Hi, I’m planning to magnetize my minis and put metal sheets in the box where I can place them. With paper coated foam I plan to make smaller boxes for the tiles, tokens… If there is enough space to do it I will make also several ‘floors’ for the minis, so I can have the box standing like a book.
Under the bases of the minis is enough space to put the magnets under it without drilling holes, I saw it in the newest BoW video.
On the following picture:
Grey will be the shelves with metal plates.
Yellow will be the boxes on shelves for tokens, tiles, dice and so on.
Really can’t wait to see what Mantic does with DS in the future. I hope they bring out an expansion that’ll let us create our own adventurers 🙂

Saw it on the Kickstarter but was to tight on money – just jumped into Hordes. I´ll give it a try, winter is coming and that´s a good reason to gather around a table with some friends, playing a nice dungeon adventure!

I pledged my hard earned money to this Kickstarter but feel really disappointed that I have seen other people get really excited about it before I have even put my hands on my own copy. I feel my age and as well as that also very young, what an amazing box content the figures look good the rules are nice tight uncomplicated and above all this will build. And I wonder can you perhaps try and tie both of Mantics, games together here with one relying upon another with slight tweaks. It also is happy to go straight from the box excellent thought gone into this.

This is a game I want to play with my kids.
The box contents look great. The figures are particularly good looking for one piece minis. The thought of expansions is tempting.Thought has even been given to the model bases to make them look like dungeon floors.
That’s a really impressive box of stuff. I loved Heroquest, and this brings it right up to date and adds even more expandability, great stuff.

Great video guys. The game looks superb and it takes me back to the fighting fantasy books and heroquest which got me into war gaming as a kid back in the 80’s. I’m glad that Mantic have really thought about this product and how to make it playable out of the box with the quick start guide and the beginners missions. I wish more companies would think about the instant playability of thier starter sets.

I’m really excited about this as I pledged quite a lot and have lots of goodies on the way.
I have to say the miniatures do look very good, certainly a huge improvement on a lot of the Kings of War range. This is the minimum level of quality I need to see before I start buying Mantic miniatures for my armies. Obviously for armies I’d prefer multi-part kits for posing. That said, can’t wait to see the minions for the other expansions, the Orcs in particular.

As discussed in other comments, I’m wondering whether I should use the very nice supplied bases and the extra from the KS or switch to clear bases after I paint the minis and let the wonderful tile art shine through.
My first steps into gaming like this was with a game called Warlock of Fire top Mountain. Not a true crawler but you moved on a board with a card like a.i for the evil warlock. Frigging awesome, then into Hero Quest with my best mate (and some are painting of the minis) Space Hulk……….infinitum. GREAT new game, with longevity most importantly, so your not going to play it and put it away and maybe forget about it as you might with others.

I really like some of the models, mostly ones with crossover to Kings of War.. unit champions and such… but I wasn’t sure about just getting a lot more plastic models just for a dungeon delver… I’m interested in seeing more though!!! Thanks BoW and Mantic!

The Kickstarter bonuses include a female halfling thief and a female human cleric. The skellies could be either gender.

Dungeon Saga is a production I have been greatly looking forward to. Anxious, anxious, anticipation.
I’m not as excited, there are alot of these board games. This year alone you have ‘The Undercity’ from Privateer Press, you have the ‘Temple of Elemental Evil’ (& from the same line … The Legend of Drizzt, Ashes of Ashardalon, Castle Ravenloft) from Wizards of the Coast .. and then you have Descent 2nd Ed. from Fantasy Flight Games always with new expansions with excellent pieces You want to get real fun, try Arcadia Quest from Coolminiornot (my fav.) Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to try out Saga, but I’m not sure it is up to the level that’s already out there. I look forward BoW’s coverage to show me that it is that special game that I hope it is.

As a mature gamer I tend to agree we are in a ‘golden age’ of gaming. I still have my old Hero Quest game but never took the opportunity to purchase Warhammer Quest. Dungeon Saga will finally fill that aging gap of simple to learn, whilst retaining the fun and entertaining adventures I remember whilst playing with friends and family on those days and evenings with Hero Quest. I look forward to teaching and playing Dungeon Saga with the younger generation of the family.

Got to say what impresses me most about this is the improvement of overall production values from Mantic:I have DBO, Deadzone, DBX and am waiting on a comprehensive Dungeon Saga pledge but the improvements and willingness to listen shown by Ronnie and his team are really encouraging.
Personally I’ve found Mantic’s games to have been filled with potential which is sadly never really capitalised on, DBO was solid but had issues beyond issues with models, I am seriously not a fan of Deadzone at all and the initial game was massively flawed and provide the things I felt they promised when funding on Kickstarter, it wasn’t all bad though, as the scenery, plastic kits and some solo miniatures are cracking and it also really allowed Mantic to develop there IP. DBX is by far the best release I’ve seen from mantic, production values didn’t blow me away, but didn’t leave me bitter either and the game has a huge amount of variation and additional depth not seen in the previous releases. Its far from perfect however as Dreadball’s core mechanics have some failings that while somewhat addressed are still prevalent such as the role and use of Jacks in game, sadly its lacking a progression system and my personally feelings are that DBO’s league rules were hugely uninspired and rather flat, anyway I’m waffling so I’ll cut to the chase…
Dungeon Saga appears to be going that extra mile, rather than just meeting the minimum expectations (or failing in the case of Deadzone IMO) they seem to be going with a product that’s going to exceed expectations and in doing so make waves on the hobby marketplace. Mantic’s enthusiasm is beyond doubt but until now I’ve not seen them actually capture that in a finished product, though of course its not past the final hurdle yet especially in regards to the advanced rules as there’s a huge amount of answered questions in regards to them, though I really do hope they add to the games depth beyond the dungeon/character design aspect.
I’m kinda hoping you guys are going to be looking at more than the core boxed set of this weekend, as there are 4 expansions, the companion and a whole additional floor tile set that we’ve had next to no information on thus far, all of which I have on its way with my Kickstarter pledge. 😀

Great video, really sold it to me. I just instantly like many others am propelled to that moment I opened hero quest on Xmas morning. I don’t think me and my brother ever opened the rules. We just made our own adventures and I think that game is the reason I am still playing games now. This will do the same for new people into the hobby I feel.
I think I have to buy Dungeon Saga just for the box. It is so cool.

This is fantastic, I can just smell the enthusiasm in this video. I’ve always been hungry for a dungeon crawler and this is shaping up to be most approachable and most aesthetically pleasing. Definitely want to crack this open for game night.

That’s a really neat box, I hope to see other companies follow suit and start putting little extra effort to the packaging. Also, the minies and the furniture look so nice that they deserve to get painted.
I’ve just noticed that the Companion box allows you to create heroes and overlords yourself! That makes this already awesome game even better. It’s always alot of fun sticking you and your mates in games as either heroes or the evil minions that always get squished 🙂
In a world where Hero Quest won’t get remade, this looks great.

Apart from 1/72 scale soldiers and kits as a preteen, it was Hero Quest and Space Crusade in my teens that really cemented me into this hobby
hobby.
My Man O’War fleets, small high elf and dwarf Warhammer armies and my Boardgames were lost in a house fire at my dads place after I’d moved away and left it there in trust in the hope I’d get back to it someday. It is only now as an adult that I am back into Bolt Action, Infinity and Terminator Genesis with my son.
A dungeon crawling game would bring me back full circle and would love to take that step.
Love the nod to hero quest on the back of the box “Hero, here is your quest”.

I was really interested in this right up until they took out the repetition models, I understand the cost of a repose would lower profit margins but with the lovely packaging and the attention to detail that seems to have gone into this product I thought they would have gone all out.
The doors and furniture really make this stand out.

For me mantic have brought back the golden age of gaming. Yes in places the rules are perhaps to simple for some but I’d trade the complexity in the base game for accessibility. I’m a huge fan of Descent which for me does edge it a little on rules but has a steeper learning curve even in its 2nd edition. However the cost an breadth of opportunity in the Mantica universe really make this a essential purchase. Whether your old and beardy like me or new to gaming you’ll have a blast with this game. So from buying NO new games in years the last 12 months have seen me become a huge Mantic fan boy playing KoW, Deadzone and Dreadball (My Fav) and now Dungeon Saga will (funds permitting) be added to my collection. Three cheers for Mantic and Ronnie for remembering that games are for the gamers (Pun intended).

I remember watching a demo game for this a while back and being excited then. Now I’m uber excited about this! Although I still have all of my HeroQuest in good condition, this set is a must to add to the collection.

Dungeon Saga looks good. Unfortunately missed the Kickstarter, but will definitely pick it up in the near future. With 2 small boys, it looks like it will be a good game to play on the boy’s weekend, when mum is at work.

I just love the presentation of the game. The components look top notch, the box is really really nice.
Wow… it’s so nice to see that Mantic have gone to the effort of including all the ‘extra’ features. The book box is an awesome idea, the tiles with red borders showing the ‘start here’ pieces needed will make it much more user friendly for newcomers. Looking forward to seeing more of the same, and hopefully other companies will make the effort too.

Very clever in every way. There’s a bit of similarity to Descent 2 with the Overlord as adversary rather than DM, but that will not stop my wallet from opening. I hope there are some solo rules in the works, but then again, when you play solo, who cares if you cheat. This is on my “must buy” list.

I’ve been watching this game for a while now. It looks amazing. I’m also an old school Hero Quest player and love how this seems to capture that feel. I love the book box. I’m looking forward to seeing the play through. The only thing that I would wish for is more adventures in the box.

I really regret now that I used the KS for bumping up my KoW armies instead of going all in. The game looks great and I want to use it to introduce my kids to dungeon crawling. However, I hope they will have translations for other languages.
Like many I got into this hobby via Heroquest which I asked for and received for Christmas when I was about 13. Warhammer quest a few years later added to that but sadly both were given away by my parents when I was away at university! As a result I’m very interested in this for the nostalgia it offers. I play dreadball so I know Mantic can produce good games, looking forward to this coverage!
Fond albeit distant memories of Warhammer Quest do tempt me to try this out. Could be a good one for my little group of boardgamers!

Mantic games just keep kicking goals and it is simply because they listen to the community. Firstly with Kings of War and now with Dungeon Saga. Hope you guys are ready because I think you are going to become huge in the industry.
The minis look brilliant, love the fact that its pretty much ready to rock n roll straight out of the box, great for the beginners and also really good for people with limited hobby time too. I really like the dungeon floor bases that all the minis come on and think that they would be a good seller as a separate pack too….
This is super weird!!!! A friend and I just recently dusted off some vintage late 70’s metal D&D miniatures that we each had. I, having never played an RPG game, suggested he teach me D&D for some fun. He said “forget it” because it’s too cumbersome with all the character sheets etc. I said we needed a fun dungeon crawl game to play that has MINIATURES and TERRAIN and EASY RULES. He said there isn’t anything around these days that is like that. So I showed him these videos of DUNGEON SAGA and he flipped out!!!!! So now that Mantic has just opened up pre-orders for the game my friend is now telling me we have to buy it!!! I downloaded some of the alpha / beta materials for the game and it feels like a balanced game that you can play quickly out of the box. We are also discussing making some 3D terrain for the game to really make it spooky. I know there are other dungeon crawl games out there but reviews always seem quite mixed. This one seems like it’s going to fit the bill and have all the best elements of a dungeon crawl game. Cheers.

I have been thinking (Not always a good thing.) thats its never a single aspect be it rules, minis or tiles that create a brilliant game, its when everything ties together. Dungeon Saga seem to do this great minis, streamlined rules all the way through to draw dropping box. Have to commend everyone involved with Mantic here at putting together a product which I feel isn’t just a pastiche of other previously seen game but something that feels better then whats gone before. Now I have yet to get an actual copy so I may change my opinion but this looks like it could be a game I play for years to come.
As an aside I missed the kickstarted as money was tight and already own a couple of Dungeon Crawl games but following on from watching the content here I will be ordering, at the moment eagerly eyeing up the legendary edition released around October.

This set just gets better every time I see it!!! I have been looking for something to replace warhammer quest, hero quest and advanced hero quest for so long, so many good games out there for dungeon crawling but none that are really hobby based. Loving the book packaging and can’t wait to have a shelf set up with these!! Thinking of building a custom fantasy/gothicy style shelf/bookcase just to hold them lol.
Now off to start designing dungeon terrain for first time in years lol
I played Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest back when they were first released, I keep meaning to find a new dungeon crawler to play, Dungeon Saga could just be the one!
This is fantastic. My son used to run the gaming society at his uni, and I just couldn’t get him into any Mantic IP. I think this game may just bring him round because it looks gorgeous. I spot a Christmas present here.

This has gotten me excited for this game again. I’m quite pleased that there was mention of optional ‘consequences’ for losing a scenario which carry over into the next. This was a something I felt was lacking in the campaign (and was a source of some debate earlier on the Mantic forums). It’s great to see that Mantic listens to input from their fans 🙂

I love the look of the contents for Dungeon Saga. I’m really glad they went with the different colours for the figs and furniture. The tiles look great and I love all the different configurations you can have. Are there rules for searching and finding secret doors? This REALLY brings that old HeroQuest feel back.

Not having to paint the models is a smart move by Mantic as it makes the game that much easier to get into.

Waiting eagerly to get this game on my table
Looks like a trubute to a good old Dungeon crawler instead of another of those new “fancy” iterations. Done right and proper old school style! Makes me happy to see!

The figs look awesome and I do like they made it a book box, that’s magnetized (!!). They’ll also have the next set stacked like books on your shelf. Hehe, genius. Oh, the dungeon furniture, is just bacon gravy.
Love the book idea for the box, will be buying this.

Back in the day, when we played Heroquest, I played the dwarf. To this day I still play Dwarfs. Loving these video’s, can’t wait untill this hits the shelf.

I love the new, revamped Dungeon Saga. Played the older versions and the newer one looks much easier to set up and play right away (which is what we all want). Can’t wait to get my hands on the minis and decide how to bring them to life. Thanks for the video weekend!

I did not get in on the KS, but I am going to get Dungeon Saga. Cannot wait for the Adventurers Guide to create custom heroes. I always played odd characters in D&D. As I did not like being stuck with the archetype of humans, elves, dwarves as heroes.

Game looks really nice, I am glad the Adventurer’s Guide allows for solo play. Too bad my daughter is only 2 and too young to play with me, but she’ll make a good Overlord some day :-).

Darn you, Mantic! I wasn’t remotely interested in this product until I watched the unboxing. Now I can just hear the cash rushing out of my account and toward Ronnie’s dragon hoard in the cellars of castle Mantic. This is awesome and I love the details that went into every aspect of the game.
Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go pick up loose change on the sidewalk. I’m going to need it.
I like that the dungeon furniture is clearly meant to remind you of HeroQuest. And if that was not enough, the sneaky HQ box in the background certainly does the trick ! This looks like a gorgeous game which stands out from the gazillions of other miniature dungeon crawlers that have spawned relentlessly on KS…
Yup, I want as many of those boxes as I can get my hands on. I want to put all my armies in foam in them and have a whole library of awesome!

Really reminding me of my first gaming experience as a kid with Heroquest in the early 90’s. I haven’t played a dungeon-crawler since and this game is totally bringing it all back for me. I am gona have to get in on this, it looks absolutely cracking!

I would fucking love to try this as Heroquest is getting a bit boring atm and Warhammer quest is lost 🙁

Love the video guys, I’m super excited for this game; I played Advanced Heroquest a lot back in the day… this has a very similar feel.
Great videos guys, makes me think back when I was 8 years old and played Hero Quest with a friend of mine. Hopefully this game is gonna be supported well and 8 year old kids get sucked into the hobby!

Oooh I can´t wait to get my kickstarter. the box is great but in the kickstarter is so much more. I´m a bit horrified thimking about the paintjob, but all the minis (rubbing hands)
I forgot something: Ronnie sell this book-boxes seperatly. I will get one for every fantasygame I have. I want a bookshelf in the livingroom that looks like a mad magicians library.
Actually I want a bookshelf like this since I´m a little boy. I was already looking for old books on yardsales and such. But old special looking books are unfortunalty more expensive then I thought.
