Infinity 3rd Edition Week – New Rules: Weapons & Ammo
October 16, 2014 by crew
We're now having a look at what's changed with the Weapon & Ammunition profiles in Infinity 3rd Edition! Can't do much High Sci-Fi killing without both of those at your disposal.
From the looks of things it's going to be a world of bigger and better ways to kill your opponents with plenty of big boomsticks and shiny guns.

Charts for the win, Carlos. Charts for the win 😀
Carlos FTW!
N3 is looking really good.
Charts make things so much easier to read. I love all the new info, great job all! I know there will be a digital barebones version of the rules for 3rd edition provided free online, but I wish there was a full digital copy of both 3rd edition books (for a fee) so that I can sport a tablet like Carlos!
charts glorious charts!
More videos more videos, hahah.
Wow, the missile launcher got reworked since Gencon.
Nicely done. I have to wait how the new weapon stats work with the full N3 rules set, though. Right now, some seem a bit strange.
More good info keep it coming BoW!
Interesting. Carlos said that you could target walls and scenery when talking about missile launcher.
I don’t know if i like this. Could open new tactical choices but could also open a whole new can of worms.
I liked the “fire corridor” suppression fire. Not sure what to make of the new version. Will have to see how it plays.
I’m a winner
Yep this really needs testing. Sounds good however !
More cool stuff. Like the revamped MULTI weapons. Change to suppression fire though is …interesting. While I like that it is now 180degrees and limited range the overriding weapon burst and range is a bit counter intuitive in my books. Leaving the range mods and burst of the weapon but with a negative BS modifier would have made more sense to me. But hey it is what it is. Still cool 🙂
As a new player to the Infinity universe it’s great to see how much further it all expands from Operation Icestorm into the full game
the charts make everything so much easier to understand
Information overload this week, I love it!
Lots of ammo types. Would warmahordes-style cards be helpful to have each troop’s rules in one place be useful?
The down side of cards is you end up with an FFG style game (mansions of madness, Xwing) where you spend more time going through the cards than doing anything else.
As long as the ammo types are layed out well in the books, they won’t be needed imo.
I would like to see the Aleph Toolbox have an option to repeat ammo type rules in it’s army sheets.
So under plasma for example, it will repeat that chart, then everything would literrally be in one place, your printed army list.
Right now it’s a case of, what does this do? Wiki time! 😀
Sigh, Infinity weekend is almost at the end 🙁 Hope there will be also a couple of Matches with the 3rd Edition Rules as a concrete preview !
2 more months and the 3rd Edition goes live ! Hypeeee !
Charts, charts, charts …. 🙂
The charts are nice.
Without mentioning the name of the Australian entertainer that used to do a saturday night show on TV where out of several coarse brush-strokes a fuller picture would gradually emerge…
… Not that I’m comparing Carlos to him, but N3 is beginning to take shape in my mind in a similar way.
So you can tell what it is then 😉
Oi, leave that Kangaroo alone! 😉
I like that all weapons uses the same distanz levels. Looking forward to 3rd edition.
So much content! Looking forward to the battle reports
All those ammo types make it sound like your troops can have a lot of versatility and options.
Hi Guy’s
I hope you will make some paper chart that we can pull out of the rule books so they will be easy to look at when playing !
Quick reference charts for this sort of thing are a must I’d say
You mean something a bit like this I’ve assembled…
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23664697/InfinityWeapons%20List%20so%20far.pdf
(Someone confirm the link works please?)
Greatjob, I was actually hoping someone would do this!
Infinity is, by far the best game with the most interesting rule system I’ve played.
All these changes look like they’re going to make it even better.
Okay, as a Nomad player hearing about DT – double trouble – ammo sounds hella cool, plus adding isolated status as an outcome to E/M ammo it’s wunderbar! I really like the part when Bostria said “Ariadna will also suffer this”.
As for ranges as I said during OP:Icestorm week it’s a good improvement regarding HMG and the like. The new SF – suppression fire – it’s really interesting and it’ll give a new way of playing, better than N2 to me in N3. The new SF indeed seems a lot cinematic and I really like this kind of things that improve gaming experience! Same as for FO – foward experience.
As before said in other commets, the push to streamline and clear cut rules is welcomed! Finally the best part to me: the HMC with shock ammo – Szalamandra now you’re even deadlier and everyone will know why I so friggin’love ya!
The more I see the more excited I get, its going to be hard to wait.
charts is good to have a clear view of things
the quick ref charts are great keeps things much simpler and fast, thanks again for another great vid guys keep em comming 🙂
well i guess that DA will not be the default choice on the multi rifle anymore
Holy moly, new game to learn is no understatement. But still like everything they presented so far. My Multirifle Aquila now is a real alternative to the HMG one or rather complements him well.
I love the charts and its nice to see all the weapons have been re-balanced sensibly without any crazy balance changes. That said, my only nit to pick is why don’t multi-snipers have the option for shock instead of AP like multi-rifles and HMCs, at least for consistency’s sake? Not that I would use it, its just weird if the multi weapons are not treated the same (I guess we haven’t seen multi-HMGs yet though, so those may also be different).
Did E/M ammunition just become insane in N3? It immobilizes TAGs with no hope of reset unless they have an engineer and (permanently?) isolates models from the combat group? The kids have a word for this, and that word is cray-cray.
Those changes were really neccessary,
I am liking those charts
charts for the win, ok carlos beat killian in a game and lets see the rules in play lol .
i like to know that there is more adesive ammo type, nice thing are comming to the game
I like the supression fire change 🙂
What was that about broken walls? Do I smell infinity specific terrain with removable damage? Get on that 3rd parties! 🙂
A less confusing approach to ammo types is an excellent addition.
Like the changes.
Cannot wait for N3!
Bring on the bat rep already! *heckles* 😉
Nice an clear.
Haha, I am so convinced about third edition that I (poor student) ordered Operation: Ice Storm, few more boxes, Bandua buildings, decided to get the minis painted by professional and promised to demo the game at local gamestore 😀
Oh and the N3 pre-order…
Who did you get the minis painted by and how much did it end up costing you?
I honestly have to keep putting myself in check. I don’t know anyone who plays this game, nor do I know if I ultimately could interest any of my mates even if I got Operation: Ice Storm and had some games, but I keep finding myself at the checkout page with a list of (Nomad) models that I really want, in addition to looking at the “designed for Infinity” range wrt markers / rulers / etc…
This is what it’s all about. The gun show!!
Ojotnik and Autocannon arent AP weapons anymore… ouch!
Fantastic changes, so into my Infinity right now and my Operation Icestorm just arrived a few minutes ago ;0))
The new charts are awesome, keep it up!
N3: Rise of the charts!
>sigh< I feel like a jerk for saying this, but I cannot understand nearly anything Carlos says.
Probably the charts in the book will be less eye-candy? For the space necessary understandable, but a pity. I
I really hope there will be full eye-candy PDF files available.
Wonder how many charts the section about weapons and ammo would get just by themselves?
Probably a lot from the looks from it. Not that is a bad thing really, since they make great summaries.
Yeah, I love the Anti Tank mode, in a past game I wasn’t able to ARO with an Agema because a camo marker was in the template range…:D smart decision!!
Excellent stuff guys. Infinity 3rd looking even better
Makes me wonder just a bit. Will there be any text, or will it be all charts. 🙂
I must admit, that all went a little over my head. But, hey, if I win a set, then I’ll happily study up!
I love the multitude of charts in the new edition.
I noticed a couple of ammo-types missing from the chart
I guess they are saving hacking for last
Weapons… N3… good
Awesome, looking forward to using the new multi-rifles, and thank you to beasts of war for getting this information out there!
e/m sounds terrifying for big, rampaging tags and HI…
Now every weapon got interesting, though I’d like more differences between missile launcher modes, something like blast losing the AP, or having damage 13, to represent differences between a frag missile and an AP one.
All the guns, all the time!
Looking great. One of the things that kinda put me off playing originally was confusion around special ammo & multi weapons. Seems like it ain’t gonna be a problem now…
It’s indeed more clear with charts
Make it iNFiNiTY Month!
Double-Trouble Ammo sounds awsome!
Great charts.
Can’t wait to field my Dragao with the new HMC profile
Charts are awesome! And that HMC looks amazing!
Another good video.
Got my Icestorm today.
Looks like people will have a good lot of reading to do before making a well balanced armylist.
It took me a minute to realize why the ML had a non-template mode. Well played CB.
This is looking great!
Carlos def has a chart fetish 🙂
..Big change for SUPRESSION FIRE…..Interesting Nevertheless!!! 😀
I really like the new rules so far
A great week of coverage
Keep it coming BOW 🙂
I like the charts!
Good stuff, good stuff, lot’s of ammo choices!
great stuff, cant wait for the new book, and that sweet ltd bounty hunter
Your weapons and special ammo are no match for Shinobu Kitsune!
And also 3rd edition looks amazing!
I am really interested in the ISOLATED state. I hope that there will be good tools to help groups as they start fracturing.
Very cool.
Great Coverage BoW, Thx.
More interesting rules, can’t wait to try it!
I love the updated ojotnik ranges.
Why no Viral CB 🙁 Ah well guess ill have to wait till the new rulebook comes out.
Trying to get my head around all this! Loads and loads of info to take in and make sense of!
Would like to have this charts as wallpaper in our hobbyroom^^
Good thing I’m umping on with 3rd edition, this is looking awesome.
So many weapons, so much choice what’s not to love
Man Dec 8 is so far away
Give me that Jotum!
Mostly I like the changes to Multirifles, what once was a terrible choice is now actually looking viable for killing things with.
I cant wait to try this game.
Think a pre order is required
interesting
We need more info, XD why are you giving us bit by bit.
…oh boy…now i get why infinity is easy with the basics…but hard to master 🙂
More ammo, more fun. DT ammunition looking almost the same as viral.
Mind Blown. Missile launchers sound awesome with the new template rules and the HMC, beast.
Sounds great!
Looks like there could be some interesting weapon choices to be had
Great video loving the new weapon rules.
Though i have now come up with a new drinking game for this infinity week, Every time Killian and Carlos say very interesting, take a shot.
Very interesting glad I am getting into this edition
Another good update!
WOW! E.M. for life!
Hm , it looks better and better…
“They would’ve counted it as an accidental shooting, if you hadn’t emptied the clip… Twice!”
Awesome with all the N3 pieces falling into place. Suppression Fire update was particularly nice.
I’ll miss the old suppression fire but the new one looks like it will make more sense and still be a completely viable option look forward to trying these out soon 🙂
More use of shock. Always good
As a Nomad player the double trouble ammo is going to be fun to use.
I really like the new range bands for the weapons
Looking good
Great charts
Sounds promissing. Especially curious about the “targeting terrain” thing. Can’t wait to hold the book in my hands!
Speaking as an ariadna player, this weapons chart is Excellent
Awesome stuff. I really home that the charts make it into the rulebook with that super easy reference look.
Also loving all the extra ammo types. Keen to start using some in game.
Anticipation is building, loving the vids, keep it up lads
N3 is looking better and better
Painting up my PanO’s from Operation: IceStorm right now! Should be able to play by next weekend!
Interesting changes to suppression fire. May get used a bit more by normal guys I think, as it was too easy to out manouvere and remove the fire corridor from N2
some changes but I think the muli rifle will be still unused…
Sounds like there is quite a few special ammo types and special attacks in infinity. E/M and glue guns, very sneaky tricks.
I like the new ammo changes and alt-fire modes, but to be honest I’m not to keen on the semi-circle suppression fire as the corridor of bullety death appealed to me rather then the random Rambo bullet spraying.
I am loving the new boom stick rules it will give things a good shake up.
Wow. Some great updates.
Another Great Video. Thanks.
Charts, double trouble, and E/M going nuts? Can’t wait for N3!
Very interesting. I foresee a lot of underused miniatures coming back into rotation by players.
Great news for FOs 🙂
Charts make everything better
I wonder which untold surprises the new edition might bring to life.
Love the new EM grenades!
I want to take the final chart, overlay everything, and find the absolute sweet spot of “you’re screwed” in weaponry. I wonder if there’s a particular region where a bunch of +3s line up, and it becomes a Good, Bad, and Ugly firefight.
That Multi-Rifle got so much better! AP/Shock at B3? My Aquila says thanks!
Honestly, I kinda liked the narrow corridor suppressive fire rule. It was super effective, but well… rather narrow, but that made it tactical. A full 180 degree seems like it could potentially turn into an overwatch fest.
Interesting changes, looking forward to giving this a solid few spins soon.
I think I need to get busy with painting some line of sight markers on bases…
Love te coverage
I think we’ll start to see some multi rifles in our tables 😛
I know it’s unreasonable but somehow I hoped CB would include the pictures of actual weapons in these charts. Instantly recognisable.
Otherwise, again, the effort to clarify rules and layout is very much appreciated. Hope it translates well into other languages as well (holding my breath for the German version myself).
Interesting. Can’t wait to try some of them out on the table.
Makes me think of first edition 40K. In a good way 🙂
haha, a chart for every situation Corvus
Yes, i arleady loved my HMC and now it gets really scary in ARO. And i am looking forward to try out new stuff with the new ammotypes.
Also isolated could be a way to deal with super rambos like the Avatar or Achilles. Not that perilous anymore when they only have one order to use.
I am tempted to make a card, just for the base stats+skills of a unit, and then print the chart with the weapons. That should cover most of it 🙂
Lots of interesting info. Thanks CB and BoW!
Missed this one. Really looking forward to these new rules.
I’ve always enjoyed that shot if the prowler advancing, so dynamic!
agreed! great mini and cool shot.
I keep asking myself if N3 can get any cooler… and it always seems to be “YES!” as the answer!!!
SF really will become used more often, especially in situations of LoL or isolation.
OK – next one please.
PEW PEW PEW!
well as a fan of supr.fire i realy looking forward to put in on use.nice that you cant hit your on guys any longer.
I want to Double Trouble ppl all the time! Also, really liking the new suppresion fire rules.
Really welcoming these charts. As a new player they really help to explain everything clearly. Just need to wait now to get the full rules….hurry up December!
The new Suppression Fire sounds diffferent. I’m not sure if I will use it as much anymore. But the Targeted state sounds interesting.
Got mine on order
Hmm, I don’t play Infinity yet, but the Adhesive launcher sounds like something I would want to equip my HacTao with from my YuJing collection. [just have the models for collection]
Sneak on a TAG or Remote and immobile is level 2, sounds good.
Love K1 ammo already 🙂
Finally more weapons beyond the initial PDF you posted earlier – looks interesting. Great Job.
Another great video by the BoW team. Loving Infinity week. Keep up the excellent work!
careful where you walk, you’re under the fire of my deadly munitions.
I’m a little curious why the Isolated state sends the unit to a new combat group rather than simply making their orders irregular (and not allowing the new Command Orders to turn them regular again). Presumably because it would also put the unit into Loss of Lieutenant as well, but I feel like there must be a simpler, more elegant way to describe the desired effect.
Looks really nice, I am very fond of all the charts that are being used. They are very straightforward and laid out in a way that doesn’t make you go cross-eyed when you look at them.
I feel like the HMG could stand to have the range tweaked a little bit more so that the +3 range is only 16″-24″ before going back down to +0 for 24″-32″. It would make a little bit harder to get it perfectly on target, but wouldn’t penalize you if you’re off by a bit. This would make for a better trade-off with sniper rifles for long range shooting so you have med-long range with larger bursts on the HMG while the sniper rifle gives you a smaller burst, but much more reliable ranging.
Then again, I’d like to see that sort of gradient applied to all of the weapon ranges rather than immediately going from +3 to -3. It seems to be applied as a game construct to penalize you for misestimating the range and shooting a little further than you should, but it would be both more realistic and a bit gentler if you’re slightly off.
Nice to see the suppression fire in more detail. I was worried from initial reports that it might be a major game changer, but I don’t see it being so now.
CHARTS!!! No more looking through 3 or 4 different rules just to fully figure out what a particular ammo type does, just neat, easy charts.
The charts make this stuff much easier to comprehend that just paragraphs of text.
Rules look to be very clear now with “multi” weapons ! Excellent !
After staring down the barrels of two PanO HMGs held by a pair of Bagh Mari in cover, I am REALLY looking forward to the new suppression fire rules! Also really eager to see the extent of the reworking of ammunition.
Should have called it “Guns N’ Ammo”
Nice video! (^_^)
I like weapons and ammo, especially on charts
Really liking that some ammunition forces BTS rolls beyond Viral ammo.
The changes to ammo are looking good
New ammo types mean more bang for your buck.
Have only been in the table top hobby for a month now, practising my painting and and assembling on ‘hand me downs’ and I felt I was finally ready to take the plunge into one wargame that gave me multiple play style options. I must say. Infinity has done that for me :’)
They really have gone a long way toward clarifying the rules and effects. Really looking forward to getting my hands on the rulebook.
Carlos is the man, the new ammo types are ace.
Huzzah moar Charts!
Love the charts
Running out of nice things to say.
Just excited.
Looking great
Really good stuff!
Charts for the Charts thrones!
Nicely tidied rules.
King kong tactic is gone then – and in a rather elegant way. Nicely done.
I’m happy as a QK player with all shotguns around
Interesting stuff.
Just learned about N3 and picked up Icestorm today. Now I’m working my way through the videos… and hoping I win the boxes to fill out my forces!
So can you swap and change ammo from activation to activation, or is it a case of declaring at the start of the game that you are equipped with ‘…’ ammo? Both ways would present their own challenges and rewards.
Isn’t Suppression Fire more like Overwatch now? I liked bein gable to lay down a corridor of death 🙁
Great charts! Makes everything much easier to visualise. Really like the way this is all coming together.
…mhh…i think i’m going to go at least once with the salamander
I think individual stat cards or charts for my units would help me out with game play.
Interesting!
So many ways to die in N3
love the multi double entry … now it’s more cleare and usefull
The Old Man in the Mountain is watching you.
Nice new ranges. Expecting the N3!
Looks interesting! Hopefully the HMC typo will be corrected in the final version – surely it’s Burst Mode, not Burst Model?
