The Weekender: DUST Epicness & Micro Art’s Wolsung In The Studio!
May 31, 2014 by lloyd
Video Sponsors: Infinity - Dropzome Commander - Mercs
Another marathon of gaming goodness is coming your way with a massive episode this week!
We'll be talking all things DUST as the Kickstarter continues to smash stretch goals. Warren will be talking more about future plans for Warhammer 40,000 and having a peek at a few codices and the new rules that have finally arrived in the post. Not to mention a little chat about the upcoming Orks, as if that isn't enough, we have Łukasz from Micro Art Studios in to have a chat about Wolsung SSG!
We've been building a table and playing demo games all week so watch out for more soon on this awesome Steampunk game.

The prepainted models for Dust are spectacular, but I still prefer to bring my crappy paint job to the table. It is more personal for me and very much part of the appeal of mini games.
Agreed. But every time I look at my pile of unpainted stuff, my resolve to only play with stuff I have painted weakens a bit 🙂
That table just rocks. No matter how many times I have watched the VLOG on this table, I still keep finding new nooks and cranies of fun. Those pipes are great. Well done boys!
Damn right. It just gets better every time. Unbelievable work for 2 days.
Def going to look into wolsung. Can’t wait for the content on it. Great board guys.
it looks so cool
Microa Art Studio is the best! They create awesome terrain and miniatures, tokens and other stuff for Infinity and on top of that a great game from what I see! Wolsung is great!
So many good games! Curse you kickstarter!
No kidding. I’ve already blown through my annual Kickstarter budget, 5 months into the year. I need a second job to keep up with my hobby, but then I wouldn’t have time for my hobby. Catch 22.
That is a rather epic hat!
Love the theme and minis for Wolsung but trying to get people to play something other than warhammer at my local gaming group….
Superb Show ! Warren is in great form today : D
wolsung looks amazing
Definitely going to back wolsung kickstarter the terrain and miniatures look amazing.
Dear sirs, give me the Wolsung. Give me all of the Wolsung!
Love the table, that scenery is amazing. Have you done much with the Hirst arts moulds on other projects? Have been looking at them for a while, have never cast in resin before thou. Watched the instruction video on the mould site and was thinking of using Dentastone. Any thoughts?
I’m watching you guys in the bath 😉
Is that not illegal?…What sort of telescope are you using?
Guess who gets the plug and tap end ?
Well after seeing those strange plastic tubes Justin had I can guess who gets the plug
Thanks for that image, now I’m going to have to go scrub my brain… 😉
I hope they will have a terrain set in the kickstarter
Another kickstarter to steal my monies! I can’t say I share your enthusiasm regarding the new 40k however.
That’s the great prize 🙂
The Wolsung table looks super! and Justin suits the steam punk getup. And I see you
blokes are teasing him mercilessly as usual – all in good fun naturally. 🙂
Great piece on Wolsung, I didn’t know that it had such a rich background. It was fascinating to hear Luckasz describe the world setting. 🙂
Thanks for another great weekender but damn you all for making me say “Shut up and take my money!”
Liking the look of Wolsung. Simple, elegant and full of character. Another trip to the black market organ legger looks to be in order. I must have some small intestine left I can sell.
Seems that while i’ll no doubt still be playing mostly 40K, there’s always another game to play that needs less time, less space, less minis and less rules-brain-space (?). I really must ween my mates onto other games. Still, got one into DcZ so there’s hope.
Really nice looking board looking forward to seeing that demo game
Another fantastic weekender! My cup of morning tea is more awsome with some Beasts of War!
If only I’d known I was over through castlerock on Monday!
Wolsung FTW!!
Sweet board
me want more dust !!!
Totally have Wolsung on my to do list after seeing it in the flesh at Salute last year and also this year.
Yeah, awesome board.
40k may be worth a re-visit thanks to 7th Ed… but you know what – with all these other games I ain’t in a rush to do so! Looking forward to the VVolsung playthrough.
I hear that – but I am tempted to have a small force of 40k just for old times sake.
“WAAAAGH” going up every few minutes was about my only Games Day memory (I’d done an all-nighter painting mega-gargants for a demo is my excuse).
Also any other old metalheads getting “Gorkanaut” to the tune of “Supernaut” as an earworm?
My wallet hates you, going to suggest Wolsung to some of my friends and give it ago.
Okay those buildings are awesome and the miniatures look cool too.
can’t wait for the wolsung kickstarter, already planned the board i want to build!!
Dust Battlefields, Wolsung, new 40k…… how will I feed my family.
:-D.
Ive never known so many great new games being released in such a short time. It’s a great time to be a gamer.
At least Justin only struggled a little bit with the Mork and Mindy reference
Thanks for another great show.
I was tossing up between Wolsung and EotD, and was asking about it on the forums. However, just your comments in this clip has got me leaning towards Wolsung now. 😀
Have to admit. I wasn’t really interested In Wolsung. Now though. I’m loving the idea of it and might have to go and get me a couple of starters. 🙂
Not too sure I can take part in the Kickstarter though. I’m a bit burnt out on them at the moment and have far, far too much to pay out in pledge managers over the next few months. 🙁
It got a lot more interesting with the mention of halfling gangsters. I’ll watch the Kickstarter with interest – though maybe I’ll wait for retail. I’m having the hobbit mob either way!
Good show, almost got me into 40K, looks like I’ll be in for Wolfsung though
Top stuff! I want me some Wolsung, especially the scenery.
Really nice looking board, looks like I’ll have to take a look at Wolsung now..
Comps are cool
I don’t have the time or money for you guys to keep finding so many cool games and showing them off! I have a major case of shiny syndrome!!
Oj juz sie nie moge doczekac 🙂
Wolsung looks great.
Wolsung is just what great things you can expect from Something Small From Poland!!! I love the fluff and the upcoming warbands!
That table! Amazing, love the terrain,… can’t wait for the Wolsung demo
Love the sound of Wolsung, can’t wait to see more.
Now I don’t mean this as a slight to BoW, because I absolutely love your content, but so far, in my year as a backstager and year or so before that as a frontstager, I haven’t discovered a game through BoW that I didn’t already have an interest in, or wasn’t already going to buy into anyway.
All that has changed with Wolsung!
Wow!!! What a cool looking and sounding game. Just seeing you guys genuine enthusiasm has sold me on it, and in particular how animated Justin got describing his characters cinematic actions. And what about the world they’ve created!? So many cool new twists on old cliches that feel really fun and fresh. There’s so much potential here!!!
But what I really want to highlight is the multiplayer aspect. That’s got me well and truly sold. I know it’s possible to house rule any game to accommodate multiple players, but it rarely works smoothly. You make it sound as though Wolsung will play as smooth and fluid as any multiplayer board or card game, with all sorts of ways to mess with the other players. I really hope this is the case. I’m taking the mention of Munchkin as a good sign. Lately I’ve been really enjoying some great card/board games like Libertalia, Citadels, Munchkin, Stone Age etc etc with my gaming group, but when it comes to miniatures generally two of us will split off or arrange another evening to play. If Wolsung can bring us all together to play the same miniatures game on our regular games night, then wow!
I’m well excited for this!
Great show this week, Love that table… Two days building, Blimey! thats some going, Love that Hat.. would love the Wolsong prize 🙂 Deffo going to visit the Kickstarter! Just may drive up from Cork one Monday.. and pop into the club. Maybe pick up the prize… LOL 🙂
Really looking forward to the kickstarter. I’ve used the microart bases and those are phenomenal. And if the game is half as good as you guys are saying it should be well worth the investment.
Knocked it out the ballpark again guys!
I had noticed Wolsung, but not paid it much attention as it seemed to be pretty much like Malifaux, which I’m already into. But now I can see it is somewhat more! I’ll be watching the kickstarter with interest now!
Another great show guys, and wolsung looks awesome!
Another great episode. Wolsung table rocks
Excellent show lads, I “almost” stood up and clapped when you all shook hands at the end. And to think Ill get another dose tomorrow, excellent.
I totally agree with Warren on his experience of 7th, and have said as much already myself on it. 40Ks wide open to enjoy a again. Pluss, am I getting the impression that theres a boxed game to come at the end of the year? Personally Id love to see an Inquisitor game and Iam hoping thats what it would be, if there was one! And I can only think of one fine gentleman who has gained recent employment that has a background in that kinda thing…absolutely Mmm
On the subject of Back Stage subscription, Ive always been happy with mine. Its well worth considering, its like Warren says, “it pays for the lot”.
Well done lads.
I love that board, and that scenery. I can’t wait to try out Wolsung, as soon as I find someone to play with.
Great show again, best £3.79 I spend
I like the look of wolsung, small, narrative games are my thing these days.I’m currently really enjoying deadzone, it’s a great game with great minis (barring the restic they are made in, I don’t like that material much), post kickstarter I may take a look at wolfsung if the local shop can get it.
I have to disagree with warren about 40K. Sure, compared to some other entertainment it may seem a reasonable cost, but against ALL other wargames, £80 of rules every two years (book and codex minimum) is WAY, WAY more expensive, and I really do not like this direction.
Free rules and updating every two years? Go for it, heck, change them every year if you want. But charge the most in the industry for the rules themselves AND half the time they are current? No thanks.
i like the board it looks great. On 40k wish you could only get the rule book for us vet. players
You all probably know it at this point, but that table is just amazing.
Already pledged on the KS… must buy all Allied minis!
Love the MA buildings and accessories, real tempting. Could be used for WWW2, could it? Steampunk does come before Dieselpunk, just weather them a bit more and they’ll fit in nicely.
Wolsung looks great and I can see uses for the building in other games.
I agree, the new 40k rules look beautiful, I just wish they’d give you the option of buying the rules book on its own. If I had an unlimited budget I wouldn’t worry about it, but I do so I do.
I like the tactical objectives. They add a new dimension to the game, beyond just slaughter opponent.
Does the Wolsung pronunciation mean Warren shall henceforth be referred to as ‘Varren’?
Sorry, $100.00 plus likely another $60 for a codex is a lot of money. The product is good but price is definitely an issue. If they are going to the 2 year cycle then the books are basically becoming disposable. I think they need to consider that. Do you need a hard cover rule book or codex if it is only in force for 2 years.
Wolsung looks great fun! Loved the Weekender, bring on The Weekender XLBS.
I got here because of a micro arts studio post on Facebook for wolsung. Enjoyed the dusts talk and will be watching future episodes.
I like 40K and I hope it’s good, but if it’s going to be new rules every two years? Warren, sounds like you’ve been drinking the GW koolade. Love the guys keep up the good work.
Pip pip oldboy
SO keen for Dust:Tactics!!!!!
That table is fantastic !
And can i say on 7th edition 40K….check out Darren’s view on Wargaming Live.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdAdFPBt4F4
Does the winner get a pm or something?
must.make.Halfling.army. sign me up!
Wolsung looks soooooo good. Have to be honest and it’s just a personal pref but there seems to be more and more 40k in the weekenders and It feels too much.
WolSung Looks awesome. I love how excited Warren always gets!
Glad to hear the new 40K is good but that just makes the idea of new editions every 2 years all the more disheartening. Using a pence per hour breakdown of the cost is distracting, it’s a bit like me saying this £150K house here is only 69p/hour because you pay for it over 25 years. What it does illustrate is the subscription-like nature of GW games now. £50 as a one off may not be much, but it I have to pay that every year to remain current with the two systems that’s £50 a year I could be spending on miniatures. A shame, because I still really love GW miniatures. If the idea is profit margins on books, shame on GW. If the idea is to create an event for the end of financial year, surely there’s another way this could be accomplished.
Oh well, at least Wolsung looks amazing! Although my finances are doomed if I see any more good Kickstarters this year…
Wolsung sounds great, with more time and money I’d be there.
I’m still blown away by that table and how quickly you created it.
I’m really curious about the gameplay for Wolsung, but mainly I just love those buildings they’ve made. How did you guys paint them, did you use an air brush?
Ork stuff sounds interesting but I really want to have a mechanical flee
Wow, I really wann try this wolsung
Wolsung looks awesome!
More Dust, and bring out that Wolsung demo! That table rocks and the game sounds awesome. The local group is kinda “bleh” about 40k right now, and Warmachine is hit or miss with folks.
Very curious about Wolsung. Thanks for the intro to it. I’ll check out some of their ‘fluff’ as well. Sounds interesting, and I don’t usually go in for steampunk.
Wolsung sounds like great fun…. please put my name in the hat for the drawing
That table looks awesome.
Wolsung sounds like a great group game. Can’t wait to tell my gaming group about it.
So looking forward to the Wolsung demo game now.
Can’t wait to see the demo!
One question mr Warzan sir…
Will we have to wait as long for this demo game as we’ve had to wait for the Deadzone one..?
:-p
That Wolsung table looks great and the game sounds really interesting.
Wolsung looks great, I find Battlefronts exploration into Kickstarter for DUST very interesting considering their failures on release schedule for their large houses. Either way great companies great weekender.
Great show this weekend.
Aaagh!!! Another game to add to my growing list of games to try. Need more time! And money of course.
great show, but remember guys, keep the long shows for the dark winter days… some of us might like to spend some time in the sun now that it’s here 🙂
Wolsung looks interesting so might get the downlaodable rules to give it the once over. I am particularly looking forward to the next “Hobby Lab” Great table;e guys and in such a short time!
Your Wolsung table is stunning, you guys did an amazing job.
The game itself seems a tonne of fun to play. Can’t wait to see the demo game in video.
The Micro Art Studio buildings look terrific. Are they hard to build?
While I think that the 40k codices and books are a bit overpriced, I wholeheartedly agree that they look really good. I preorder myself the new 7th edition books the moment I saw how they package it into three different great-looking books. Even if I don’t like this edition, those books will look really good on the shelf and I believe that I will have some really good times looking all the artworks.
And about Wolsung: I’m initially skeptical about it, but after listening to your description I become very interested just because the amount of fun you can get from it. That, and the halfling mafias; brilliant.
Since PP released MK2, Warmachine has become the go-to competitive game in my group that usually feed our brain burning need. However, to our opinion, MK2 is not as fun as MK1 because there are a lot of ridiculousness and fun being omitted due to the streamlining and balancing of the game for competitive play. I have a strong feeling that Wolsung will feel a lot like Warmachine MK1: lots of ridiculous (and perhaps imbalanced) models, but they are fun to play.
One question to Warzan: How many players can Wolsung be played with effectively? You played it with 3 players, do you feel too much chaos in the game (up to the point where you can’t strategize properly)?
No not really, Wolsung has some great mechanics that give you the ability to ‘react’ to opportunities and try to ‘force’ through your tactics when they are most opportune.
I would love a 5 or 6 player game 🙂
Awesome! Can’t wait to check out the Kickstarter..
I would LOVE to win, I had never really heard of wolsung until now, looks great!
Wow! That Wolsung board looks amazing, great job building and painting that up. The terrain from Micro art studio is perfect for something like Dust as well. I especially like the warehouse.
After this video I’ll definately check out Wolsung to see what it’s about. I loved Steampunk, the Chris Bachalo comic in the 90’s, it would be great to have something similar on the tabletop.
Wolsung sounds like quite a good time!
Great board and a great game. Will definitely look deeper into this one.
You guys rock. That table is magnificent! I have backed DUST on kickstarter because of your videos. It looks amazing and I needed to be a part of it. If Wolsung is as you described today, I’ll be backing that as well. Being physically disabled, table top gaming has helped me keep my sanity and provided many hours of enjoyable adventure with my friends and family. Thank you again guys. Keep on gaming!
Great show, I just wish there was a lot less talk about 40k, but still love the show
That table just rocks and omg love to get my mits on all that nice stuff 4 my gameing club 🙂
Love the hat Justin! Good to see you getting your steampunk on! Those Wolsung warehouses are awesome and I’m sure MicroArts will make the game that good!
Wolsung has piqued my interest…. Will be checking out the future Kickstarter
I must say, Wolsung sounds very cool! Think there is yet another kickstarter i need to support =)
well,i have played an RPG steampunk themed….so i guess i would love to try a mini’s game to!!!!
Consider me very interested in Wolsung.
Have downloaded the quickstart Wolsung rules from their website and they look pretty interesting.
I want this game!!! lol The table looks fantastic!!!! This is on my wishlist!
Great weekender, i hope this will be the new standart length from now on!
The board looks amazing, and all in a two days work!? Madness!
Wolsung looks really interessting, looking forward to the kickstarter, especially the “undead” faction.
Love VSF, so fingers crossed – off to BoW, and YouTube. And joined Backstage, as I really enjoy weekender – regular/routine viewing, so the backstage option should be just as good.
Halfing mafia, you need not say more, I’m in!
Wish I had more money for all of the awesome kick staters! Great job guys! Would love to see more dust
Something in the back of my head kept nudging me… and then I realised what it was.
The image of Justing in his steam punk regalia reminded me of someone famous.
Mister Hat from South Park.
http://southpark.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Hat
Yet again another great episode and I am waiting for the mid June Wolsung kickstarter. Excellent terrain board keep em coming thanks
Looks promising.
love the idea of so much game in such a small space.
great vid!
Another great episode, and what a fantastic price!
Join backstage, and help The Beasts of War guys pay their electric bill after this monster episode.
I cant wait for this demo game!
damn you kickstarter… so shiny
Steampunk for the win
I probably will get back on backstage soon, as I never tire of your videos. Wolsung looks fun and imaginative and the terrain is breathtaking. I’m loving all these lasercut terrain kits coming out the past few years…I do wonder how those kits are designed though as it might be a good way to do stuff for my own game.
I’m in for !the contest!
looks like i found my new steam punk game
Haha, the beginning was so funny! And Wolsung looks so interesting, I like the whole cinematic aspect you guys described.
Wolsung looks like a great game
I just had to have a look at the Wolsung miniatures again. And along the way I noticed there’s also a roleplaying game set in the world. That doubles the awesomeness. I loved the kind of tacttical roleplay of Inquisitor, although the rules were way too complex. If this is anything like that only simpler it’s a winner.
Browsing through the Wolsung miniatures I noticed I like some of them a lot, but others not so much. It looks like there’s a big difference in detail on some models, with many of the lady figures getting the better deal. I’m looking forward to see how the new models/factions will shape up.
40K sidenote: The new edition does sound nice. But if it’s really going to be renewed every 2 years I’m not sure I will buy into it. In my opinion Warrens cost calculation is trying to explain away the relatively high investment, making it sound not so bad. Currently I may only play a game of 40K once a quarter, so I couldn’t really validate the cost of buying the rulebooks at this price.
It could also be argued that if the players only need to learn one or two changes per edition ( as Warren intimated ) then why bother with a new version at all.
You raise a good point tasker. I guess ultimately its “horses for courses”. I have 4th and 5th ed books. I skipped 6th completely and havent played 40k in a few years. I didn’t like what I had heard about flyers dominating the game. I am hoping 7th addresses this issue somewhat as I dont like the flyer miniatures too much.
But 7th unbound rules, added psychic phase and the tactical objectives really appeal to me so I will be putting my down this time.
2 years from now??? Who can tell. I could be dead by then lol.
Both very valid points, for me it’s really only a call that can be made ‘at the time’ I really like what they have done with 7th, but that does not mean I’ll automatically like 8th or have the time to invest into it to make it worth while.
But I don’t fault them for changing things up, there is nothing to be gained from sticking to the status quo, in today’s world.
Loved the show those building are brilliant and so generic they could be used on any scenery table good to see that GW can still make good fluff.
Awesome stuff there, it was great to learn about Wolsung, it sounds like a great laugh! 🙂
Loving the new board guys! Those buildings look awesome!
I’m more of an RPG girl myself so I guess that’s why I LOVE the idea of Wolsung. It combines the challenge and detail of mini’s gaming with the personality and cinematography of an RPG. I hope I can get my Hard Core History War Gaming boy toy to consider playing this with me.
If my dream comes true I will be opening a gaming store/hobby studio next year. If that ever happens I would love to put posters of clips from your show and your site logo up in my store to advertise this site. Anyone else doing that? I’ll ask in forums as well. I just happen to be thinking about it as I watch this episode.
Brilliant gaming table. I’m looking forward to seeing the demo game.
I like how Warzan has a special guest on the show and then talks endlessly while the poor guest keeps trying to get a word in lol. You can always tell when Warzan is enthusiastic about a game.
I think thats why I love the BoW vids. The enthusiasm is palpable through the monitor.
Love the costume Justin with the 3 different coloured tubes in preperation for the “Alabama Back Door Surprise”.
That board….again wow. 2 days. Loving Hobby Lab…please show how you did the water and the pipe casting.
Looking forward to the new content and against my better judgement I include the 40k content.
OMFG!!!! I have been a backstager for months now so I can watch the content as it comes out. I never noticed or pressed the backstage button before.
Now I see all the content you keep referring to.
Doh!
Got some watching to do. (Shouts into other room: Woman leave me alone for the rest of the weekend!)
😉 Like that ever works.
The attention to detail on the table is phenomenal. I love the idea of adding the drains, where the water is pumped out of the dry dock. Fantastic!
Great stuff! Can’t wait for the Wolsung battle and what rule you threw at Justin.
uff, Volsung looks great!
Love the table and can’t wait to see the tutorial video on how to play
if its a rule that warrens made it must be a steampunk STUG
I wish I had the ability to develop a consistent gaming group, the new 40K sounds amazing and Wolsung is pretty awesome sounding!
Despite all the complaining, I think that 7th edition came to fix things that nobody liked in 6th. For me it came in a good time, I’m beginning in the hobby with Warmachine/Hordes but 40k is my next step (Ultramarines for the win!) and begin with a new rules set just being launched will put me in a common ground with some other players that are in the game for ages.
Wolsung seems like an amazing game, since from the first time I saw it (if I’m not wrong it was on last year Salute coverage) I liked it and now knowing all that amazing stuff that you guys showed I just can wait for the Kickstarter. Fingers crossed here to be the lucky winner and of course to see the Wolsung Kickstarter with an good Shipping option to Brazil.
PS: Are we going to see some deepwars on Beasts of War? I really liked all the theme an so, but what I really wanna see is how the game is played.
Wow i hope ill be the chosen one 😉 as a miniature gamer in my soul i think this game deserve a great house where someone is going to play with them a lot simply cause the game looks AWSOME !
Damn! I’ve really been good with kickstarter this year. Looks like this might tip me over.
great coverage on wolsung. I’m looking forward to the KS.
Wolsung looks like a cool game and the terrain is perfect for Malifaux.
Wolsung does look like another game I’m going to have to play! great job guys although an expensive one as your enthusiasm really helps promote the game. I’m even tempted to buy 40K… now thats something i never expected to say.
Halflings with tommy guns! That alone is worth it… The board looks pretty awesome too.
Another reason I don’t have any savings.
40k can go play in traffic though.
Ive been working on my table for 10 years and its still nowhere near the one you did in a couple of days … actually its still at the mdf board stage 🙁
Hm… starting to get interested in 40k again. However, spending €67 every two years still seems rather expansive for me and keeps me waiting on throwing the money at GW. Especially when there are only minor changes to the rules. An option would be to get the rules book only, but for a cheaper prize…
Ok, I think you’ve got me interested in Wolsung.
Presentation aside, it sounds like the old stone age system GW has been using for millenia … Movement phase, shooting phazzZzzzz … (falls asleep)
What if the rules got the same treatment as the presentation? That had been somewhat exciting actually
Maybe 40K is the denim of Wargaming and will keep coming back into fashion 😉
Great show again guys. Wolsung looks amazing and I’d love to get my hands on it. I’m also particularly looking forward to your 40k coverage. Keep up the good work!
Wolsung looks awesome, and you board is brilliant! though still not sold on 40k though
Great show, want to play all the games shown!
Good thing a Backstage subscription is cheap as chips because I’m bleeding money on all the amazing hobby stuff coming out. This months KS budget has been earmarked for the Halfling Mobsters!
Loving the board will definitely be checking out the Wolsung kickstarter when it hits
**Cinematic** skirmish game? I am sold! 🙂
+1 for some terrain in the kickstarter. Another great week ended guys!
Wolsung sounds like an excellent game. I love anything narrative!
Wonder how compatible my empire of the dead stuff is with wolsung? had a quick look at the mini’s on the website, really good, even thou it’s a small range.
Love those building wish I had the money to get some of those, they would still be able to be used for Infinity and other games as well.
The Wolsung terrain from Micro Art looks amazing. Will definitely pick up the buildings to my Malifaux games!
Great Show. Love it as always
Wolsung does look like a great game to try.
A two year cycle for 40k. I allready had edition overload by 6 edition. actually made the step back to 4th edition this year. New editions are for the younsters who don’t know what’s good like in my days (cue rogue trader players).
Seen Wolsung on a convention a while ago. Some nice mini’s.
i wanna win
Wolsung, what better way to get into the steampunk genre.
Wolsung look great. Can wait to play some demo
Love the table, the boat looks great. Backed a few Kickstarters, none of which are finished yet. So that’ll be another added to the list.
Another great show!
Wolsung looks so cool, BUT I have to resist, as my list of excuses for starting new games has run out!(My wife has a Birthday in September may it help her forget a few of them.)
I really appreciate the review of the 7th ed 40k .
The good…
Totally agree with the comments on graphic design.A lot of time and effort has been spent on this by professionals at the top of their game.
I also like the work of the new artist you showed and the quality of his work is ‘stunning’ to borrow Warrens favorite word.(lol.)
The quality of the artwork has reached a new high IMO.
This includes the quality of the photos , it is obvious a lot of time and effort was spent getting the ‘atmosphere ‘ just right.
So the artistry of 40k is still awesome!
The questionable…
Battlefront did release a 3 book set for their V 3 rules.
And as it was mentioned in the review, perhaps we could do a comparison for an idea of the usefulness /function of 7th edition 3 book set?
Both have rules books , and as an in depth review of the 7th ed rules by BoW is on the horizon Ill not comment on that for now.
But if we look at the ‘supporting books’.
40k 7th has a ‘coffee table book of photos’, and a ‘background book with artwork’.
Which is cool for inspiring people to collect minatures, and possibly paint scheme ideas.
But little else.
F.O.W.
Has a Forces book with 16 (sixteen) late war army lists .These are a bit generic but work fine with all the other list from the campaign books.
(And the basic ‘Forces book’ armies can be adapted to more specific forces with little effort or expenditure.)
This is very helpful to new players, as is shows them how to build armies and have engaging and fun pick up games.
The Hobby book has lots of hints and tips on how to assembles and paint models and terrain etc.this is very useful for people new to minature war gaming . (And or changing scale to 15mm!)
So the style of 40k is excellent but the ‘substance’ seems a little bit lacking in comparison the F.o.W. 3 book set.
(In terms of ‘hobby and game support’, not including any rules comparisons for obvious reasons.)
IF GW were to sell the rule book separately for £25, I am sure there would be more people interested in buying it.(Many do not like paying GW plcs ‘picture tax’ .)
Just my 2 p worth.
Need me some wolsung for the win ;0)
I love the look of the board I just wish I had the resources and talent to create a boards like that.
The Wolsung game looks awesome, My wife loves everythnig steampunk, so heres hoping she approve another game
Really loving the style of Wolsung and the minis for it.
Wolsung sound’s intriguing. The terrain is great!
Great show as usual guys. Always nice to see some of the other games out there but also glad to see you easing back into the 40k realm a bit.
Tat Wolsung terrain looks great!
I hope increased 40k coverage does not reduce coverage of other games. The BoW crew only has so much time in a week to record.
With regards to the next edition of Warhammer, is there any rumors on whether they are going to keep separate army books for each army, as awhile back i heard they would be combining them into groups of books
Wow! Wolsung is looking awesome from here. You can count me in. I love the idea that I can make some smaller boards, very cool boards, and still get a full gaming experience…space is one thing I don’t have a lot of!
That board looks amazing, and the terrain features make it so easy to replicate that board. Definitely going to looking into micro art studio.
Wow that was a monster episode, hangover prevented me watching yesterday…lol still I have to say not that bothered by 40k but still watched it. whilst painting 6mm Irish Piquets.
Not really sure about Dust quite yet.
However the Wolsung I saw for the first time at Salute and looked quite fun, not a big steam punk fan but this may drag me in… I really think this has a element of the Pratchettness or Discworldiness too it…
Wolsung got me intrigued, me and my guys are looking for a new skirmish and this might just be it.
Love the table 🙂
Wolsung looks incredible, how long does a game take?
A 2 player game with 3 heroes per player (so up to 9 models per player) takes about 40 minutes once you know all the rules.
It’s quite possible to get a 3 player game under 1,5 hours. A lot depends on how much time the players spend laughing and bantering though as it does tend to happen a lot 🙂
These guys put on a great informative and entertaining show. Then they give us a chance to get cool minis for free? Beast of War is the best.
Whilst I was actually expecting a review of 7th edition (the title implies) this was still a good video. GREAT to see other games being shown off.
When it comes to 40K I really miss Darrell and Andy 🙁
Man, that’s a beautiful board, but it looks like storage would be a bit of a pain.
Another great weekender, been looking into Dust and played on game of 7th edition 40k and my Daemon army over ran Eldar with tons of summoned units MUhahahahahaha
Echoing the sweet board sentiments. I think Wolsung and Empire of the Dead needs a look at, when I get my hands on some of that terrain.
wolsung looks absolutely fantastic I want to play
Wolsung sounds thoroughly fascinating, and a new take on fantasy tropes is always refreshing.
Dust looks cool
Too much 40k again for my taste but I`m really glad of the possibility to skip that via the segments.
Wolsung looks great. Can’t wait to give it a try.
Dice and card for Wolsung seems a tad intriguing, especially the gamble of stealing turns. 🙂
Please, please, please, let me win!
Awesome-sauce!!! Warehouse terrain. Yes please.
My bank manager hates you all.
Guys.. this was a great show, and That Wolsung looks fabulous!!
Great show! I used to play Dust Warfare, would like to see the new Battlefield rules. It may pull my Dust models out of storage! That Wolsung game sounds awesome! Can’t wait to watch the demo!
wolsung looks good
Wolsung sounds like so much fun!
Did I miss something? I can’t find Wolsung on KS.
they said mid-june
I did think the 40k rule was a fair amount of money, but I will admit that a new play will look at the other two books and go “OHMAHGUUURD! LOOK AT THIIIIIS!”
Having said that though. GW really did miss a good sales idea to have it separate ( some people would’ve still bought all three together).
I REALLY have to disagree on the thought that they’re great quality. “A galaxy of war” is just a compulsory warhammer visions (for those who don’t want it). “dark milemium” doesn’t show enough about the exnos and what they’re about.
If you look at the 6th edition book, it has a lot more background about the exnos. if they cut out “a galaxy of war”, they could’ve put more background data in, so it wouldn’t have been so biased towards the imperium.
Also, the covers/ box looks bland as hell (the picture on the front looks nice, but just ‘there’ with no background? isn’t that going agenst the 40k rulebooks of the past?)
gotta say though, the rules look EPIC and can’t wait for my first game on Thursday.
Put me down for a chance to win this prize, been looking for a steam punk game that not massive battles. Sounds awesome, good luck everyone.
I want that table! I wish I had the time and the resources to knock a table out like that in a few days! fabulous! keep it up guys, love what you do!
I got sold on Wolsung. Would love to try this game :)
really liked the longer episode. Wolsung is looking very interesting.
Wolsung looks promising, the terrain is awesome.
Ha a good news! wolfsung doing kickstarter – I will definitely pledge that! As they say something small and beautiful from poland
Love the look of the table, it’s giving me ideas for a table of my own…once I get done with my urban board.
Wolsung looks amazing!
Wolsung looks like alot of fun, def can’t wait to check out the Kickstarter but I’m liking the Triad for the 3 factions that are out.
How come no Eldar Codex? Do you already have it? There one of the biggest armies right now, please don’t give me the Their a bunch of fairy space elves bit. Also what about the supplements like Crimson Slaughter or Black Legion for chaos or the Farsight Enclave or Iyanden and if soemone is playing a Imperial army the inquisition codex is a really good thing to have.
You don’t get bonuses for every psyker you get it for every mastery level and grey knights use the brotherhood of psyker so you won’t get a dice for each guy but for whatever mastery level the unit is. Grey knights are still going to have a bunch of warp charge dice as some of their vehicles also get them. Daemons and Grey knights are going to be psyker power houses some of their builds will be able to nearly shut down average psyker armies. Eldar, Guard and Tyranids have some builds to contend but it will be tuff and Daemons with all the psykers they can field don’t need all that great rolls to summon atleast a few hundred points of units every turn especially if you don’t have a psyker heavy army.
Warren I love the show and channel but theres no way a wargame should reset every 2 years and force me to spend that kind of money, I would be done, and its not fun. The game changes every time a new codex drops or a new supplement you don’t need a whole new 85$ book every two years to mix it up. What will happen is they will start to make changes for the sake of change just so they can make a new book or hold good ideas so they can save them for the next edition. Its not like a new video game coming every 2 years its like a new game system every 2 years, you want to spend 500$ every 2 years so can play call of duty? sure you can play the old system if you don’t care about finding people to play against and with video games you don’t even need to play against someone else so it doesn’t even matter what system you have. But with tabletop games if your not in a big gaming group and relie on pick up games which is the way it is for lots of people atleast here in the USA you have to have the newest version cause thats what 99% of people will be playing. If a product is the best it can be it does not need to be reset every two years, and if it is being reset you know its by design so they are charging a premium price for something they know isn’t as good as it could be I won’t buy into that like sheep.
Want want want!
Neat terrain
I’m not going to pretend I’m not here commenting because I want the Wolsung stuff. I want, want, want it. Do I have to knock someone off to get it? I have a list prepared….
Just happened to be checking out the Wolsung page a few days ago. You guys definitely make it sound both fun and interesting. I’ll keep an eye open for the Kickstarter,
Looks like its time to ebay Malifaux off and pick this up!
Sign me up for a win……
Not really sure about the new 40K. I will pick up the rules and check it out Before i decide if im going into the game again.
I really love Dust tactics and the new kickstarter for the game is awesome.
Wolsung looks really cool, love the terrain and the setting for the game and i also found out that there is an Wolsung rpg!
Great show guys!
The Hierarchy of the Imperium was in the 2nd ed rulebooks. So nothing new there.
I meant this link http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/232190.page?userfilterid=3081
So many great games to check out but so little time to do so 🙁
Wonderful and inspiraring board you’ve got there! Im am getting so sold on Wolsung. Im getting it no matter if I win by posting or not. Looking forward to seeing you play the game.
Awesome scenery! Excited for 40k, but I feel like I need to win the lotto so I can also get into all this other awesome stuff like wolsung and dust, such a good time to be in the hobby 😀
Great Show. 40k Rules are a welcome change and improve the Game
Dust has me interested as well now
Might have to pick up the rulebook after all. You make it sound worth it. Woflsung looks interesting as well.
Lovely episode again. Time spend painting just flies by with BOW on
So many great games who have earned to buy and no Time because of unpainted minis. But for Dust i think i make an exception. 😀
And Wolsung first right 😉
Wolsung is awesome, I got involved when they did their Indiegogo campaign a couple of years ago.
As a big fan of Malifaux, Wolsung seems right up my alley. Really looking forward to trying it out.
Wolsung
Great encouragement to get back to 40k
I did not know of Wolsung until you brought it to my attention and now my pocket book is beginning to look empty.
Been looking for a fantasy/steampunk skirmish game that you don’t need a ton of models. Nice work Micro Art Studios.
I like the idea of the halflings 🙂
I’m actually in love with the new books – such a great format and the price really is as lloyd says so worth it for what you get. They are lots of imagery (and arguably less content) but thats kind of what I want in these books. Theres still plenty to be going at, and we have black library for big chunks of background.
goblin lawnchair?
: )
Great looking table, your going to run out of storage soon 😉
I am definitely looking foreword to the New Blood Angels Codex
Wolsung looks really interesting. Would love a starter set, especially as I’ve spent all my money on the kick starters you keep covering!
That table looks amazing guys. Can’t believe you knocked it up so quickly.
Great video, looking forward to the demo game!
I always do enjoy partaking of y’all geekin’ out. Greatness!
Great job guys. And more DUST please!
Good episode guys 🙂
and there was me thinking I wasn’t going to spend anything else on kickstarter for a few months….
oh well 😉
Great show! And now you have me interested in Wolsung…
Awesome show guys. Can’t wait to see the Wolsung Kickstarter!
Those MSA buildings look great. If they are like the infinity ones they will be solid too.
Must admit the board alone is swaying me in the direction of Wolsung! It’s pretty epic, well done guys. The game itself sounds a whole lot of fun though – definitely the sort of thing I like from a game. It just seems that skirmish games are more fun for me these days.
Still not entirely convinced by 40k, despite your gushing enthusiasm! I’m interested simply because it seems to have turned your heads after a couple of years languishing in the background and being mostly ignored. The fact you seem to think it’s also now ‘fun’ is reason enough to give it a go. I’m looking forward to going to my club this Wednesday and seeing what people are saying. To be honest, if the WAAC crowd are really unhappy with the new 40k then I might just give it a go!
I like the Lotus Faction
Dust is looking great, but they are backsliding at the moment so I hope they can keep up their momentum. But way to be brave Justin, I’d like to see Warren and Lloyd step up now!
Love the show guys! Wolsung is going to be so amazing! Warren ‘s enthusiasm is infectious. I must possess this game, please consider this my comment! Ass always guys, best part of waking up on a Saturday and Sunday morning. Keep up the great work! Came in for the free trial and now you could not pry me away from the backstage access!
I’ve been Wolcurious for a while now, the terrain is selling it more to me. 40K looks awesome, but I’m really worried about the reset button every 2 years on top of whenever my codex gets replaced.
Wolsung looks like fun.
another good episode
So what is the timeline on the kickstarter?
Would love to win that prize!!
Really liking the look of Wolsung and that terrain is just incredible – I mean look at the diorama set ups on their website, its just incredible. I backed the Empire of the Dead kickstarter a while back (predominantly for the rules) but this could really be the game that gets me looking at Steampunk/Pulp etc as a genre. I wish them all great success and will be looking at the KS with great interest whenever it breaks cover.
As an aside to @warzan, @lloyd and @dignity this was a great weekend of content boys and with the newsletters going out too today on the back of a surge of new content recently you are REALLY riding the wave at the mo (though to continue the surfing analogy you are also clearly working bloody hard not to fall off or get eaten by sharks at the same time). Cracking stuff!
Drat, incredible twice in one sentence – I’ve got to stop with the repetition in my posts lol 🙂
Game looks epic!
Wolsung looks completely different to anything else I play. Nice to see different takes on the usual fantasy characters/races. Will be keeping an eye out for the kickstarter.
This looks awesome, both the 40k and wolsung. Got my rulebook as a birthday/wedding present from my best man…..the books kick ass!
I’m going to have to check out this Wolsung game. Looks awesome! I already want the terrain for sure!
Another great and long, very long video. Thx!
The Wolsung terrain looks really nice and pretty fairly priced. I like the walkways especially, they have a great Victorian feel to them.
I’ve heard abaut this game coming soon as miniature game becouse I know it was RPG game goog to hear that its great. Go Wolsung!!!
Love the look of the tenant building looks like the apartment in Batteries not included. Great show gents…. Whale sperm….. Really.
I say sir, giving things away for free sounds very caddish and not the sort of thing to be condoned by the Ash and Oak Club.
I’m loving the look of Wolsun terrain. I’m going to complement my GnG gaming board & make an epic board.
Great terrain guys look forward to the wolsun coverage. Still not thinking of getting back into 40k maybe your coverage might convice me to give it a try will wait and see.
Great show as usual and what a great prize! How can you not be excited or enthused by the excitement of Warren and the team with this new game. Will def be checking out the Kickstarter. The board just looks fantastic
Looking forward to hearing more about Wolsung!
Dust is looking great, not sure on Wolsung though mind – I’m sure two starter sets would put that to rights!
looks like a great game, ah well another kickstarter to check out
The terrain looks awesome. I’m going to add it to my list of stuff to pick up.
The board is awesome! The game sounds interesting. And I would love to win this terrain.
It’s excellent for all kinds of steampunk goodness. I’d use it for Warmahordes for sure!
Maybe this upcoming steampunk game, Twisted…
Left a comment , randomly chosen …………… please ?
Top show dudes, like the look of Wolfsung. Something a wee bit different.
Dust = awesome
🙂
Great show guys and an epic table!
Awsome scenery. I like it, love it, want it. Kickstarter here i come.
Did he say a Halfling Mafia!?! SOLD! Where do I send all my monies to?!
Wolsung is just the game that I’ve been looking for to get my old crew of gamers back into the swing of weekly gaming! Quick to learn, good miniatures, 4′ x 4′ table, and multi leveled play environment. I was so hooked after watching the Weekender that I went online and ordered the rules book.
I joined Backstage just to watch the table build for this game. Lots of good stuff in the Backstage area…..
I see a table build in my near future!
That is awesome terrain!
Wolsung has definitely got my interest.
Wolsung what a great board. Finally a game that supplies its terrain. Absolutely beautifull. Am looking forward to the kickstarter and will be folloeing Wolsung. Cool setting, keep that up.
Thanks Beast of War, great video. Really enjoyed it. Fun part with Armstrong
That board is full of wonderment.
