The Sands are Stirring… beware the Tomb Kings!
April 5, 2011 by beerogre
So guys, here are some of the leaked pictures of the new Tomb Kings models from Games Workshop!
What do you think?
When we get more information, we'll be sure to tell you.

Tomb Guard looks like Maya or Inca
They are based around ancient egyptians. And that Sphinx almost makes me want to start warhammer again. Almost.
Blue/black bones. I am confsed.
Anyway those do look like some lovely GW sculpts that I may have to aquire.
Blue bones based no doubt on lapis lazuli and gold.
It’ll be green marble that it’s meant to be – i suspect. Animated statues rather than reanimated bones.
Yep agreed.
The sphinx and stalkers are just beautiful.
Very interesting. Nice models though once again another BIG model for an army lol.
Tomb Guard look the best of the lot, nice look about them.
beautiful!!! now I’m really going to collect tombstalkers. I hope most of them a are plastic but I think they’ll be metal, except the troops then.
Everyone gets a howdah nowadays. 😀
@gowiththeflow: Necropolis Knights and Sepulchral Stalkers are in the same box… Both Sphinx’ too (all multiple plastic kits)
Howdah do everyone!
Not overly keen on the stance of the sabre toothed thingy.
Overall looks like they will be very well received sculpts.
They will look great painted up on the table.
Ohh Shiney! Now i might have to actually start Warhammer Fantasy or a Thousand Sons Army.
Y’know, as gorgeous as these models are, I’m a little disappointed by the lack of a Colossal Sphinx akin to the Warmaster model (it’d be Mumak-sized in WFB). Not sure I like the “animated statue” aesthetic of these sphinx, I prefer the idea of them being actual creatures roaming the desert.
Necropolis Knights & Sepulchral Stalkers look like they’re going to be a two-in-one plastic box – just look at the parts. I hope they don’t replace the Ushabiti in the range though, they’re my favourite WFB models =/
Also also also, where is the much hoped for plastic bone giant!?!
I think they look great and i am excited to dust off my Tomb King army!
Its its I got nothing to cool
Dammit! Now I’m doomed, there’s no way I can resist those beautiful models of epicness (sigh) and I had so hoped to resist a tomb Kings army, not gonna happen now.
The humanoid war sphinx is fantastic. Very impressive model. The tomb guard and sepulchural stalkers look great also. Not impressed at all with the cobra riding knights. They look totally stupid. The other sphinx model and tomb king model? Meh.
omg omg omg omg omg!!!!!!!! they look soooooo epic i have waited ages for the new ones to come out and they were no wher near my expectations i cant wait to see the new rules
i officially require this army!!!!!
wohooo nice love it can’t weit on that humanoid war sphinx it’s just fantastic but what’s up with the other sphinx ? seams like an egyptian stegadon not too good. And those stalkers are really nice too
Love Tomb Kings, I hope that they keep the Ushabti. They would complement the models above beautifully.
Granted, those are some nice models for the Tomb King. Overall there seems to be a tendency towards a gigantic beast in every army. Ok, Orks & Goblins and Tomb Kings always had their giants, but come on… Arachnarok Spiders? Those Sphinxes? That’s a whole new class of “big”! It really makes me wonder what will happen to other armies, such as Bretonnians, Wood Elves or High Elves, that have nerver been very famous for big beasty things. Except ridden dragons, perhaps, but come on! Even if, let’s say the High Elves would get something like an unridden dragen, wouldn’t that just seem lame, compared to Arachnaroks & Sphinxes?
That Sphinx makes up for me being over all dissapointed in the Grey Knights, Just when I start to doubt GW they do something awesome like this
These look really awesome, perhaps enough to make me start playing fantasy
Some of the rules for these guys are just brill, cant wait till we get our new book! seeing it friday woot woot
Im generaly impressed with the models. much needed variety. want to see the stats for them all. have been planning on starting a tomb kings army for some time but put it of waiting to see the new releases. Happy so far. 🙂
Could I just ask for plastic Greater Daemons?
These models are beautiful, no question, but with the Arachnarok, that Sphinx up there…. come on! They can obviously produce low volume kit at exquisite quality and a Thirster on a Dreadknight/flying base? Oooh, I might need a change of underwear.
Oh [uneccessary expletive that Andy had to remove]! There are some really beautiful minis with the new Tombkings. The Sphinx is so Awesome, The Sabretooth is epic, the Tombguard and the Stalkers are cool. The only unit thats not totally mine are the Cobrasurfers but maybe in a different perspective they look cool also. I hope with this release Fantasy gets some drive for the players again.
I have to add, my Vampires are very jealous at the moment
warhammer is going anytime BIGGER…more enemies for the dwarves!
Hurray!! About time too and for the most part they look fab!
Pose of the sabre tooth Sphinx looks a tad ‘statue’ like, but maybe that’s the idea, otherwise lovely.
2 Sphinxes? Didn’t see that coming, nor the snake mounted troops 🙂 Really looking forward to augmenting my TK army and reading the book.
Looks like GW might have done TK’s proud, lets hope so.
No new standard skelies? Wonder if they’ll put the price of them up anyway 😉
one wonders if GW is pushing on Mantics releases in fantasy with good stuff and totally ignoring 40k models. These are WAY prettier than grey knights….
Humanoid Sphinx – Pretty cool though im not a massive fan of the human torso and it seems a little busy but that’s probably just the picture or the way they’ve built the model. The pose is really boring though, the “front left foot raised” pose is probably the most overused one in Warhammer quadrupeds.
Tomb King – Really poor, nothing special at all, the current Tomb King, Priest and special character models seem a lot nicer.
Tomb Guard – Very nice, though the headdresses don’t seem very egyptian overall great stuff.
Stalkers – Wonderful. I’m a huge fan of the Lamia style.
Necropolis Knights – Not feeling these at all. Giant undead king cobras are cool but having skeletons surfing on the back of them just seems silly, these aren’t wood elves they are skeletons.
Tomb Sphinx – I really like the design of the Sphinxs itself, more so than the humanoid one. There are a couple of problems for me though, it having a platform and crew instead of it just being a monster in its own right is something I’m not a fan of, and the pose is very very static.
More importantly though with all these new units I hope they haven’t neglected any of the existing units, except the Ushabti and Character models which are in my opinion some of the best models in Warhammer already.
While I normally don’t post about GW stuff as I don’t collect it. I do have a Khemri Blood Bowl team, so I’m looking forward to some plastic models to covert me some new players! 😀
I’m looking forward to making some house rules for a Sepulcre Stalker player… it’s about time my team got a Big Guy!
Hmmm… Prehensile Tail… Sure Feet… Wrestle… maybe even Hypnotic Gaze… shiny!
BoW Andy
And no metal ball and socket joints either.
The Stalkers are by far my favourites, and would be great for many other games, bloodbowl included.
The nicest models of the new range are probably going to be something I pick up for pulp adventure games…a more horror inspired version of “The Mummy.”
Hmmm… I wonder where GW got their “animated statue of dead people made of black stone and gold” idea… Skorne immortals much ?
So idea borrowing works in two directions not just in one!?
Apparently, when the GW magpies see something shiny, they steal it and make it their own… Just as they always did.
I won’t venture and say that the Iron Kingdoms are “more original” than the GW universe, since they borrowed many concepts, but they’re better, IMHO, and truly unique.
Also, PP are gaining ground and GW are losing their hold… No wonder they get their inspiration from what works. It’s not stealing, by the way : It’s a different take on the same concept, is all.
Nothing wrong with that… Except it’s obvious.
@elromanozo – GW have had black stone and gold animated statues since at least the last version of the Tomb Kings book. now I’m not sure when Skorne Immortals arrived but if GW are stealing they did it a decade ago at least.
I am really impressed with these, they’re very nice. I’m glad these models came good, they help prove to the doubters of GW that you pay high prices, you do often get high quality.Looks like I potentially might just have my first fantasy army picked…
We ahaven’t seen a price list or the mould quality so I wouldn’t go claiming a victory against the “doubters” just yet.
true, its always better seeing in the flesh. You pay for quality is my point though, although I guess there isn’t a limit with GW 😛 Also, you can still get a fairly good impression from these high quality pictures.
Wow! Cracking models. I expected to see great models but these are some of the finest i’ve seen to date. Can I really start yet another fantasy army? I’d kick myself starting something else whilst halfway through Orcs and Skaven. Nevertheless – cracking models, I will have my eye on them!
Don’t like them TBH
I just crapped my pants. I am not even going to finish my sentence cause I have to go change.
Wow, does GW have a new designer? These models look fantastic and very well created. Lots of intricarte detail and a great theme
bdw are there gonna be a Tomb Kings week whn this comes ?
Now… now… it’s not polite to ask for another themed week while one is running.
Enjoy you Grey Knights week and then we’ll talk about it.
BoW Andy
their looking really well. Nice new look to the Tomb Kings being waiting for this for years now.
O-o Plastic tomb guard !!!! … order me 4 boxes.
You’re gonna need more than 4 considering it doesn’t look like the current basic skeletons are being updated.
Mmm Tomb Guard army, even if they can’t be counted as actually all being Tomb Guard in the game it would look awesome.
The rumor is that the ordinary skellies come in a later wave. I’m also quite surprised they shoot out mostly the new stuff at the beginning and save the core troupes that really need a face lift for later.
Plastic Tomb Guard + Plastic CSM’s = excellent modelling opportunity for Tzentch Thousand Son’s or affiliated war band.
You can have that idea my friends! You can take that to the bank!
they look oresome 😀 sicko!!! ^_^
10 Tomb Guard for £25 is rather expencive, but knowing GW we’re lucky it isn’y even more!
crappy grey knighs move aside tomb kings is what i whant love this models
£33 for 3 Necropolis Knights / Sepulchural Stalkers. No thanks GW. I wont be buying coz thats far too much money for 3 models. Your company is a joke.
they are big models though, all three are on chariot bases. And they’re probably a rare choice which means GW expects to sell less of them than say the Chariot 3 unit boxes (£18). It’s exactly the same with Bestigors, Greatswords & Terminators, they sell, but not in massive numbers like the Core/Troops choices, so they need to increase the price to make up for that.
Which isn’t to say I disagree that they’er rather steep, but just that GW has precedent with this sort of pricing scheme.
Advance order is up, along with some extra pics
Nice to see, that once again, GW screwed over the greenskin players.
Just fabulous models!
I wonder if I can return my greenskin armybook. Hehe 😀
This is an awesome range of models that are really gonna grab the imagination of hobbyists everywhere, and now I can’t wait for the Necron stuff for 40K if their closest warhammer relative looks this tasty!
£25.50 for 10 plastic skeletons…
£33.50 for 3 very slim plastic snakemen…
Ahahaha, thats a deal breaker for me.
Even with a 10 – 20% discount from an indie store they are too much.
I guess my pulp archaeologist adventurers can make do fighting the couple of Ushabti models I already have.
I haven’t even been able to save up for any O&G items yet and already GW are upping their prices again. 🙁
Its good to see that GW have learned from the mistakes of their Beastman release (I think it was last year?) and are actually making good models. Heck of an improvement of the Razorgor, which was basically Pumba on Crystal Meth.
BoW Sam
These guys are making WFB very appealing to me, anybody else reckon they’d look fantastic if they were painted as if they were just made of sandstone? (Yes I know it might be a bit weird but think it about, see? looks great doesn’t it?)
yes might look good. I think its always a good thing to paint minis in a non standard color scheme.
btw these pics werent leaked they were purposely given out by gw
