What Happened?

- Basecoating
- Using Transfers
- Army Painter Dipping!

John's Spray Can Method
We also stopped in with AJ, Warren and Ben to find out more about the Space Wolves and their background as we built the army as well as the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.

This should spur me into gear to at least make a start on… About 642 different things…
Good, every little helps!
Only 642?
I was only counting the stuff still in boxes…
Sounds scarily familiar
We all have a pile of shame! 🙂
Try and catch a couple of hours of this tonight then watch the rest over the weekend
Will try tune in, no hobby tonight, I am mid-sort out and purge of the 25 year old hobby mountain. So lots of shifting stuff, and reboxing
Just made sure I’m good to go on Twitch 🙂 Good Luck guys hope all goes well 🙂
Now the only two questions are what do I paint and stay up or quick nap
Dawn of War III or Hobby Night Life, Dawn of War III or Hobby Night Life. Hmmmmm. I’m going to try to be there for most of the stream.
alas I won’t be home for the first show 🙁 so I’ll catch it up when it hits the site.

I’ll be doing more work on Arthas when I get home and over the weekend [URL
I think Hobby night Live is a fresh idea and I think it has real potential.
Interested in this, will try to join and get some painting done.
Looking forward to this. Hope to finish up by BA Tiger and SDKFZ 222 during this. Will try to send in some pics.
Planning to use this as a launch pad to get me doing more hobby again

Hopefully I’ll be able to participate tonight! 🙂 Good luck!
I’ll be watching you..
Super excited for this, I’ll be doing what i can from my quarantine zone! Plenty of 30k and 40k to be worked on!
looking forward to it will be working on my guildball stuff whilst watching along…:-)
Good luck tonight, going to have to wait until the weekend to get my fix of hobby goodness.
Do we use the Twitch chat?
Im actually going to be painting tonight. Unfortunately its my garage (the real life one) and not my armies. But who knows – I might be able to apply some of the techniques on show – drybrush the raised surfaces of the concrete, highlight the edges of the walls, apply darker shades in the recesses. Its worth a bash I suppose.
How long until this gets kicked off? I think I did the math wrong and thought it was starting at 2pm EDT
Should be 35mins away now
Thanks I was an hour off in my planning. I am done being an adult today and I really need some time with my paint brushes so lets get this thing going. 🙂
Track Primer is ready to go
Black for the road wheels
an a nice mix for the stowage.
The little dudes are going to get some dope rides. Pimp My Ride 15mm style.
….and GO!!
I might follow for a little while, but come on…
21 to 01 on a weekday? Some of us have to get up early tomorrow… 🙁
but if you’re late then you’ve got a good excuse … 😉
Btw, is hashtag on twitter the only way your comment will get read out? ‘Cause some of us are dinosaurs and don’t have twitter
Shame you can’t please all the people all the time eh?!
The aussies need to watch this at work.. 😉
Loving the show guys. Keep up the good work
ok is this where I win the prize, Fyi I do like this as well watching live is just an extra xlbs show which is cool
liking the background chat while working on my on projects. need this more often and I might actually finish my projects 🙂
Just got in after driving home from work; Virginia USA. Thought of watching on my cell phone while driving home, but decided the better of it.
It would be great if a Space Marine with a bolter had more value. Right now lists take troops as a perceived tax to be paid to get other models.
Thanks for this it was fun.
Was in work till 22:00, so i got see some of the show. Great show from the part i saw, just a pity the “Bug`s” butted in. Better luck with the next show guy`s………………….
I agree with @Warzen, in 40k there where so many sodding book`s. I spent more time reading than playing, come to think of it i spent two thirds reading and one third making – painting and playing. I`m waiting to see what GW do with 40k, as i have drifted away and only a miracle will get me back in to it. With so many game systems out there, GW have got to work miracles for me to part with my hard earned.
its going to be a rough day tomorrow guys.
Fantastic 4 hours guys. I laughed. I cried. I was quite disturbed in places. Best nights craic in ages. MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Yep, I had nightmares about warrens jockstrap and old one eye.
Want more, twice a month would be great
I had a blast with this one, popping into the comments when I could. Thank you for your patience during our little set backs, we can only progress from here. 🙂
Should be going to bed for work in the morning but eeehhhh going to aleast watch the first part
You wouldn’t have known if it was a live show without those bugs … 😉
So this was almost like watching live tv, except with better content and more innuendos. 😀
Now I finally have a use for the twitch app on my Xbox One.
Really enjoyed it.
It got me motivated to try a new paint scheme on my test mantic enforcer, I got it primed and the metallic and colour coats on. With it being a holiday weekend, I’m hoping to get it all finished and see just what the reality looks like compared to what my brain wants it to look like.
Unfortunately life got in the way of me joining in last night, hopefully be free for the next one!
Ref white for theTau , Panzer Aces Stencil by Vallejo
Didn’t get a chance to login during the live broadcast due to packing boxes for pending house move in two weeks time. So all my hobby stuff is packed away ready for the move, but I will login for the next live show.
Wow I really enjoyed the live event. A few bugs to work out yes. I watched mostly on periscope as I wanted to see how that worked on the computer. One segment was on twitch and the reason there was again to see what’s what. Maybe I will get a twitch account if that is the direction everyone is leaning.
I feel a little bad for @brennon as he was stuck in a box when everyone else was able to move around. It would have been neat to have a monitor in the main hobby room also so he could walk into frame like hogwarts, lol.
Hope springs eternal that this wasn’t such a manpower drain that it isn’t doable for the future.
Keep up the good work.
One last tid bit, maybe @caesar and @lancorz can get together and do some funny technical difficulties slides? Something like the Simpson’s with the drunk camera man.
Again good job guys!
Would ask could summary of the Wolves / Bases scheme be done either via a Video Edit or short article? Really like the scheme and although am a 1ksons player, I’ve been looking to paint up some Wolves when bored of painting Red
A very big thank you for probably the best beast of war ever .Loads of laugh out loud moments ever . Lost count of the double entrendes , .Please post again soon ,
I had to bail about 20mins from the end and I was at #18 from @warzan in the end.
I wasn’t counting when I watched the bit I missed this morning but there were at least 2 more. So assuming 20 total that’s –
20 / 4 hrs
5 / hr
1 / 12 mins
or a lot of shots! Very dangerous drinking game 😀
I do prefer the grey colour of the 30K space wolves. I use it for what little i have of my 40K wolves.
Great night of content I sat and painted what was left of Magnus and a few thousand sons I had on my bench 🙂
Just finished watching this back and really enjoyed it. I think the views of people doing hobby worked great as well as the tutorials you went through step by step.
Was good to have the lore in there as well as it gives time for people to do their hobbying when listening and then looking up for the bits where you look at what people are doing.
Yes a few glitches but your doing better than Jurassic Park did 😀
Enjoyed this event live! Thanks BoW team
So, I really like the idea of a Hobby Night Live, but I’m thinking I’d like to see way more hobbying and way less gabbing! Maybe four or five folks actually doing hobby that we can watch and only one person serving as commentator…
Not much interaction in that, and long periods of silence are your rusks there.
Talking about our hobby is also probabjy the biggest part of our hobby too 🙂
Cool retro armor. Love the tutorial.
I watched what I could – it’s good to see the hobby aspect getting some live love 🙂
Loving the vods, I’m catching with the videos I didn’t saw ^_^
Just watched the show and thumbs up. Now my wife has given me orders that I need to start finishing my figures and everything hobby orientated because she wants the attic emptying. So many different things their, so if I start now and hopefully live until past 100 years of age and then get reincarnated to carry on finishing my hobby and I should get back into her good books.
I will admit that having now seen the content and knowing that it will substitute the weekenders 3 hours ish of content I probably wouldn’t watch it live again. I would save it to watch half Saturday morning, half Sunday morning as the weekenders have now become part of my weekend routine.
Right there with ya. Liked it, was a cool change of pace. But if I had to choose between Weekender+XLBS,& HNL, I’d choose Weekender+XLBS every time.
Blaster was here…
@warzan have you seen this
https://youtu.be/9Y2_cCOf_0M
Awaiting a house move soon so everything packed away so no hobby for me . Doing it by proxy through you guys!
CHEERS
Question, they talk about a four hour event, but this video is just 45min. Are the not posting all of it for later viewing?
@foehammer888 If you use youtube to view it runs into the other ones so there a fair bit more content buddy.
Cheers lads couldn’t watch live as shift work called but watched on Saturday…enjoyed even with the cliches..to be honest that made it even better watching Jason giving it the “its not my fault look” and Johns usually happy expression…but for your first go i thoroughly enjoyed it and will look forward to more.
Have been watching Hobby Night Live on and off over the weekend – excellent! Really enjoyed the mixture of hobby with John and Lloyd as will as background with AJ, Jason and Warren.
The 30k Space Wolf painting tutorial inspired me to finally place an order for the HH The Burning of Prospero box. Looks like my Dark Angels 40k Army will be getting some Heresy era reinforcements…
May even try giving Army Painter dip another go…. Now I see how you guys use it properly. I used AP dip years ago when it first came out but made the mistake of Painting it in much too thickly, failing to stop the “pooling” and then blasting the models with anti-shine spray for way too long and ended with everything ruined with terrible frosting.
Anyway, great show – looking forward to the next Hobby Night Live.
I’ve never looked into the 30K stuff, waaaaay too much other stuff in a non-painted pile. Very nice models though.
Great show, realy liked it, whanne go see replay of bit painting/dip spae marine, but my you tube is only from the first 45 min, when having the first of air moment, do you guys put up the hole 4 hour show ?
There’s a drop down menu with 3 other videos that has the rest of the content on it. Most of it is on video 3
In terms of painting Thousand Sons, look at the Forgeworld transparent airbrush paints. I am in the process of trying them for Alpha Legion and they are awesome. Also water based so no awful smell.
Red over a gold (GW Retributor armour spray) basecoat should work nicely. Gold gives a warmer basecoat than silver which works better with red. Silver works best with colder colours like blue.
John is technically using the Micro Sol / Set backwards. Set goes on first and Sol goes on afterwards (according to the instructions on the back of the pack at least). His method seems to work just fine though.
I liked it. Nice change of pace. But would choose Weekender+XLBS over Hobby Night Live every time. Miss the Weekender+XLBS way too much when it’s not there Sat/Sun! [‘Specially during he NFL offseason. :-/]
Blaster was here… & is still missing my weeks fix of Weekender+XLBS!
Hey guys, to my regret I wasn’t able to join the live event but I had a great time watching the show! Great job! Keep up the good work, hopefully I can join in the next time.
Cheers
All I can say is thanks for a great show. Though I didn’t get to see it Thursday night, it contributed to me having a great painting day last Sunday afternoon here on the U.S. East coast. After a great week watching Guildball, the show inspired me to get my Brewer team done. I also completed the Malifaux two player starter box, and some monsters from Shadows and Brimstone. Pics will follow in the forum feed on the work. I would love to see more of these, I would love to invite my gaming group over to watch the show and get some hobby in. Great job all!
