The vehicles look great John . I think your doing a good job on separating the painting and playing with toy soldiers from the actions of the real life counter parts . If we went all PC on this , we would have to put away our Japanese , the Russians and I don’t how many more armies from history who’s evil deeds still resound through to today . We need to learn from history ,and not let these things happen again
@a27cromwell, I couldn’t agree more. History should be learnt from & not ignored because of it’s distasteful nature.
Are you going to be keeping the artillery base that size? The reason I ask is it will limit the deployability of something often used in in terrain for ambush against armour in treelines and between buildings in built up areas. Will it not mean moving scenery to fit it in?

Dude I totally hear you on the whole SS thing! I’m in my 40’s and never intended to get into “Historical” gaming because I thought that having “Fun” playing games in a setting representing actual conflicts was disrespectful? Guess it started with my Grandad (who stole a Tiger tank in WWII…… it’s a good story!) and my wanting to respect his memory by building and painting the various tanks he commanded during the war! Then the lure of Bolt action’s random dice unit activation mechanic tempted me to try some WWII action! Unfortunately I’m the designated ‘rules reader/king geek!’ of my small gaming group and therefore have to build/paint/demo every game I try and force them to play, and the very idea of representing Nazi scum made me pause! But….. as we both know…. not all Germans were Nazi’s, in fact I met an old boy ‘Tommy’ in Brighton when I was a student (many years ago!) and he lived next door to my place…one night when heading home from the pub I saw the old dude ahead drop his wallet as he fumbled for his keys, so I politely attempted to return his dropped wallet to him. Poor bugger was so confused when a pissed 6’1” hairy Rocker stood before him holding his wallet! When he realised that I was not stealing it but attempting to return it he was so greatfull that he invited me in for a drink. (Now let me stop you all now before any of you get any dodgy thoughts about old men in Brighton inviting students in for a drink……shame on you!) Anywho, this old boy randomly had a shoebox full of black and white photos from WWII, not sure if this guy was a spy or defector or whatever but the pictures were all of German soldiers (I’m assuming Wehrmacht…basic German career army dudes yeah?) and they did not look at all happy! Every picture had some poor bastard infantry dude looking thoroughly ashamed/terrified of what was happening around them! It legitimised modelling and playing with German soldiers for me but still the thought of using SS Troops left me feeling very uncomfortable. I guess it’s in our nurture (?) to dislike/feel uncomfortable with SS troops? But at the end of the day ….they make awesome bad guys….and the Ark of the Covenant melts their stupid Nazi faces! I guess you’re ok so long as you don’t glorify their actions but simply appreciate their resolve and commitment from a purely military perspective! I mean there are plenty of examples in history of vicious/genocidal bastards that did bad stuff that eclipse the actions of the Nazi party but we don’t hold them in the he same fear/regard! Guess that’s a question for the philosophers out there! Anywho, random wine fuelled rant over now…. keep up the good work dude, every wargamer eventually has to deal with the “historical dilemma” and you’re dealing with it in a sensible/respectful way! …….. damn that took 30 mins to write…. no more wine needed!
