Sharpe’s Assassin is the twenty-first historical novel in the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell, published in 2021. The story is set in June 1815, immediately after the Battle of Waterloo, and during the occupation of Paris. (source Wikipedia)
as a slow reader, I have so far managed chapter 1 and most of chapter 2. And I’m finding the new book like slipping on an old pair of comfy slippers. having read all the Sharpe books previous and seeing the TV series (owning them all 1st on VHS then DVD)
Sharpe’s Assassin starts the day after the Battle of Waterloo.
I would love to see more Sharpe books in the future.
October 15, 2021 at 11:45 am #1686852Never read a Sharpe novel but jumped on this as soon as it was released. Now I’m inclined to go back and read the rest. I was hooked from the first page as it reads exactly like an episode of the show, just incredible.
No spoilers, so I’ll leave it there.
October 15, 2021 at 1:05 pm #1686890I have Sharpe’s Assassin to read this weekend.
October 16, 2021 at 9:07 am #1687086In the queue at the library for it but very much looking forward to new Sharpe. Would absolutely recommend going back @flatbattery – they are excellent and very easy to read.
October 16, 2021 at 11:37 am #1687095@ninjilly don’t worry I will, just got a stack of 40k novels to get through first. Was going to hit the Witcher books next but Sharpe’s Assassin was such a breeze to read it would be rude not to get the rest. May have to read Cornwell’s Last Kingdom and American Civil War books as well.
October 16, 2021 at 11:45 am #1687096The American Civil war series are really good and worth a read. Also a character pops up in the series which is either the son or grandson of Sharpe not sure which, but I think has his mothers surname rather than Richard’s.
Just checked it’s his son; Patrick Lassan
October 16, 2021 at 12:27 pm #1687099@warhammergrimace I read that too after looking up Cornwell’s other books. Knowing there’s a tie-in firmly planted it in my wish list.
October 16, 2021 at 12:32 pm #1687100I really enjoyed reading this, another I couldn’t put down in the series form Bernard Cornwall.
I’ve also read over the last few month’s Jason Salkey’s book “From Crimea with Love: Misadventures in the Making of Sharpe’s Rifles” which is a great behind the scence tour of the making of the main Sharpe films (not the India one’s). and well worth reading in my opinion.
October 17, 2021 at 10:38 am #1687141I’ve had these book on my e-reader for a while now. I’ve watched and re-watched the series with my wive a couple of times.
I should give them a read.November 20, 2021 at 1:38 pm #1695862I picked up Jason Salkey’s book “From Crimea with Love: Misadventures in the Making of Sharpe’s Rifles” at salute, he signed it and I got a free signed photo for buying the book
