### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- You’ve been off work for more than a week. Do you prepare yourself mentally for getting back to work?
And now back to the show.
August 2, 2025 at 1:21 pm #1938686Pledge: Try not to murder people at work, not falling into something like a midlife crisis and maybe even do some hobby.
Answer: No, I don’t. I usually get very annoyed the evening before but that’s about it.
No music today. Brain is still in slow mode XD
August 2, 2025 at 2:41 pm #1938687This week’s pledge is to finish my next skin tones mini. It’s actually mostly done, I just want to try and create a marble effect on the base, then it’s complete.
- You’ve been off work for more than a week. Do you prepare yourself mentally for getting back to work? – I do usually find myself doing a bit of prep. Not so much mental prep, but I’d usually feel better if I spend an hour reviewing emails so I know what I might be walking into on day one.
August 2, 2025 at 5:07 pm #1938695Pledge: I’m finishing the Draugr this week and then on to some Epic Scale Celts for a bit of a change.
Answer: I worked in education and if I didn’t prepare for the first Monday back I wasn’t doing my job properly. I always set out with the best of intentions for setting aside time in the holiday to do the work but it was usually the Sunday before, basically all day, that was sacrificed. I also used to get in a bad mood before going back. Not sure why – I really liked my profession.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No its… oh
August 2, 2025 at 6:31 pm #1938699Preparing for work ?
panicking because at the end of a two week holiday I’m likely to be awake at night and sleeping during the day …
I hope to do better this time by setting the alarm at the same time as usual.
Not sure if I’m in the mood for waking up at 6:00 …Reminds me that I still need to plan my holiday (or rather : my days when I’m not working).
I really should have planned the work on my hobby room better.
I’m now dissassembling my table, because trying to move the thing in order to lay the floor tiles was proving to be a bit of a pain in the posterior.I really wonder how people manage to make any interior look consistent, because all I ever seem to manage is just shoving a few things in a room and calling it done. Maybe my taste is a bit too odd and I’m not decisive enough to pick and choose stuff I need ?
It was more or less the same when I got my first appartment. It kind of worked out in the end as I stumbled upon a shop that sold a range of furniture that I liked. Of course I also underestimated how much storage space one really needs. That was before the blue&yellow furniture store was a thing and you had to make do with regular furniture shops that calculated delivery times in months instead of hours.Anyways …
I reallly really should finish this room ‘soon’ so I can do some proper hobby.August 2, 2025 at 11:43 pm #1938701Pledge: start painting again after a week of the outlaws visiting. So sick of company.
Work: prior to retiring, yes, Sunday at 1600, would be a panic attack. Every single Sunday. I don’t need to deal with that, anymore, thankfully.
Music:
August 3, 2025 at 9:01 am #1938703Pledge: knock out more minis and put together a list for Kings of War (I’m not a fan of Napoleonic squares though).
Question of the Week: There’s an absolute need to get back into the mindset of going to work. Having irregular work is almost as bad as if I were, as Gerry put it in the XLBS, retired. I’m nowhere near those days but the search for work in construction is pretty rough in a city that was generally built up 70 years ago. Even with the regular work its the beginning of the week exertion that can be rough.
A bit of a change for music into triphop. A full on mellow tone to start the week.
August 3, 2025 at 9:25 am #1938704August 3, 2025 at 10:34 am #1938705I despise country, and Corb Lund @limburger – I can’t lie!
This was today’s work, replacing my broken air filter with a new one. So, you spend $450 on a new kit. And, they can’t include a $2 gasket. WTAF. Whatever. Also, bad instructions. But I solved it. New S&S teardrop filter over my stage 2 1200c Sporty. Clean, slick, and sounds better.
August 3, 2025 at 11:17 am #1938709August 3, 2025 at 1:37 pm #1938719Do you prepare yourself mentally for getting back to work?
No need. Mentally, I’m like a coiled spring, always primed and ready for action, so no need to prepare 😉
My wife agrees with the analogy. Except she says it’s more I’m likely to go off at any time crashing into things and making a mess. I saw myself as a scientific instrument, primed and filled with kinetic energy. She, it would seem, more like one of those plastic monsters you used to lick the bottom of and stick to shiny surfaces.Pledge – work a bit more on my Blood Bowl orc team. I’m not going to commit to anything silly like trying to complete them. But getting them a bit closer to done would be nice.
@zoidpinhead – nice music choice. Though I’ll be honest, just from the title alone, and until I played it, I did think it might have been this one:
I’m going to see the new Naked Gun movie tonight. I hope it’s not dreadful.
I remember loving the Police Squad tv series when it was on, but on re-watching it recently, I can also understand why today’s kids don’t find it funny either. That said, the recent trailer with “cover me” was enough to make me buy tickets!August 3, 2025 at 5:15 pm #1938734Ai has come far, as shown before, and seems to just keep going. Can we make anything real anymore? Will we want to?
Going to music made by a real person (I checked). Sorry @grantinvanman this is just a foray into the husky voice of a genre I partially associate with Fallout.
On a different note, I see that AI is now taking bites out of the business bloat known as HR.
Somehow I think that coiled spring analogy is like the argument between super heroes and villains @blinky465 Do we get a Rube Goldberg option to properly show your creativity?
August 3, 2025 at 5:16 pm #1938735@sundancer – I’m dying to see Spinal Tap 2!
August 3, 2025 at 5:35 pm #1938742Pledge of week. Eat. Shop. Drink beer. Stay in a hotel for a few days.
I’ve been off three weeks and due back to work in one week. My normal prep is expect the worst on Monday and hope it’s better than that.
August 3, 2025 at 7:18 pm #1938746@blinky465 Ah, Black Lace – the antidote to nostalgia 😀
I am plugging away with the last units of the Draugr. Whilst I was waiting for some wet blending to dry I got started on the next small army:

Warlord Epic Celts for those who don’t recognise them. I’ve got a division to do with two infantry blocks, cavalry, chariots and skirmishers as well as command bases. I don’t have any others and I’ll probably sell them when I’m done as I don’t have anything else in this scale. I just fancied having a go at something different.
Well done to @horati0nosebl0wer for the wonderful entry in July’s painting comp. Is this the format now – winner picks the next category? Seems fair enough and it spreads the load a bit too.
