Cubicle 7 has announced that they are working on a new edition of the hit roleplaying game, Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play, which will launch next year.

Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 5th Edition - Cubicle 7

Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 5th Edition // Cubicle 7

The new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the role-playing game that has seen an impressive resurgence in 4th Edition. Importantly, Cubicle 7 has already assured folks that this edition won't be a massive departure from 4th Edition and all of your supplements that you have in your collection will be backwards-compatible. Great!

What this does mark is a fine-tuning of the current edition. It will still be in-depth but a lot of the special cases (as Dominic McDowall has put it) have been reduced if they didn't have an impact on the game. Combat has also been reworked so that it flows better and is easier to keep track of, whilst also tuning the game to be even more deadly than it currently is!

Dave Allen also mentioned that Talents have been updated, so there isn't as much overlapping of bonuses, plus Resilience and Resolve have been merged into Fate and Fortune so that you don't have to track even more resources that you'll no doubt forget. The magic system has also been updated to match Winds of Magic, bringing those updates into the core rules.

Most importantly, it seems like you'll be sticking to rolling a d100 and embracing the mechanics that made both 2nd and the current 4th Edition great fun for lovers of the world of Warhammer.

Dominic McDowall also announced that, alongside the new rulebook, you'll also be able to get a new range of cards, dice and maps to kick off the new edition. There will also be more plans for the 40th Anniversary of Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play announced at the start of 2026.

What changes and updates would you like to see in the 5th Edition?
