About the Project
With the excuse of a future OPR activity, I will be assembling and painting an almost all Oldhammer Legions of the Damned Army, to play both in OPR and 40k Second Edition. In the grim darkness of the far future there is only green grass!

Thanks, it has Tactical Pockets!
Today I wanted to paint the hero on foot, my beloved “Cenutrius”.
It’s a conversion of the awesome Death Guard sargent with power fist, and it had a primaris holster obscuring part of the old sculpt, as it’s not as chonky as it looks.
But it felt wrong and not Oldhammer to use a new bit to fix a problem.
So Tactical Pockets it is!
Using Green Stuff, first I modeled the main body of the pockets. As you can see, it was a big space to fil, but is as chonky as I wanted
I waited around an hour for the Green Stuff to cure, and then I started sculpting how many pockets I wanted. Five seemed the right amount
Next I sculpted the flap of the pockets. The shape of them all became more irregular, each of a different size, but I don't mind that, imperfections make Oldhammer look good! Human error not IA slop! I will now let it rest until tomorrow, I feel like it could work better without the last pocket in the back, but I also like the extra volume. The first one in the front view is superb, exactly what I wanted.
Oh well, that is a future me consideration. For now I think is a job well done!
Squad Complete!
This has been a great mini project. The old sculpts are beautiful in their simplicity, yet full of charm. And weird proportions.
They look goofy as hell, and bring a delightful energy to the table.
I still think that painting them with diferent motives helps a lot with the “cloniness” of the miniatures. To be honest I’m not 100% convinced about the face of the sargent, but it does the job and I can always revisit it later. The banner (of course they have a banner, what kind of Oldhammer army would be without one!) needs some touches too, but it looks good enough.
After some deliberations I decided to use very thin plasticard instead of paper or aluminium. It’s easy enough to cut and I didn’t want to tell everyone to be careful with an aluminum one.
They look so cool and I’m very proud of how they look.
I will post a painting guide in the near future.
Let the painting commence!
A few more and “better” photos of the colour scheme. After a few days I really like the dark brown so I started painting the troops.
The absolute classic and clearly humble plastic monopose Space Marines are a delight to paint.
They might not have a lot of detail, but they have Rizz (as the youth say).
And if this proyect has taught me something is that GW made a mistake with the homogenization of the monopose Space Marines. IF you take time to paint them some custom details, and the Legion of the Damned is perfect for this, they start looking quite striking and not so “clony”
And as I’ve said, the 32mm bases work just right for these fellas. They bring some space to breath, specially with the cowboy legpose.
Testing color scheme
Photos of the new test scheme, using AK’s Grim Brown color instead of the classic black.
I’m going to let it shimmer for a couple of days before making the final decision about wich to use: on one hand it does look quite good and the overall scheme is more visually consistent, almost all colors can start from this dark brown. On the other hand it’s harder to paint than simply black, and that consistency loses some contrast the classic look has. Also it looks a bit “chocolatey” too, but I don’t think that’s bad at all.
Ps to myself: upload better photos xD
Mission Briefing
The idea is to make 1000 points of “Dark Angels” for OPR but in reality they are Legion of the Damned, Oldhammer to the fullest.
There are no official rules for the Legion in the game system, so I chose to run them as classic Space Marines (no primaris) as that seemed to me the least broken option, while maintaining the essence that they are a supernatural, heavy metal battleforce.
Playing at 1000 points, Deathwatch and Grey Knights are too strong for my taste since they have a lot of Quality +2, even if you pay a hefty price for them.
Dark Brothers have the special rule of “undead leadership”, which I think is loreful enough.
This would be an idea of the combat force that I am going to assemble, minus one infantry model missing.
The Plague Marine with the banner is a conversion to proxy as Sergeant Centurius, the only special character of the Legion that’s why there is a flaming skull on its banner: it’s the Animus Malorum.
Only little thing, because he’s my proxy, I call him “Sergeant Cenutrius” (In spanish, cenutrio might be translated as “dumbass” or “idiotic”, so is a great anagram xD
Other things that need some work, I will change the head of the chaplain on bike for the helmet that he already carries in the back of the bike, and I have to assemble the motorcycles. Even if the box has a modern look to it, they are the classic oldhammer figures.
99% of what I already have of Legion of the Damned is true Oldhammer, with the exception of a 5th edition plastic Dreadnought (which at this point counts as Oldhammer too xD) and some bits I’ve used for conversions.
