December 30, 2025 by brennon
Building on the launch of the new version of Dystopian Wars just a few months ago, Warcradle Studios has revealed that a new Starter Set is on the way. The Empire will be launching a new fleet in February 2026.
Empire Starter Set // Dystopian Wars
The Empire bring their terrifying colossi, impregnable skyfortresses, and torrents of alchemical fire to the high seas and this is a great starting point for those looking to start their journey in the Dystopian Age with either a new fleet or an enhancement to an existing collection.
The Starter Set comes with everything you need to start playing The Empire in your games. You'll master their alchemical weapons, their deadly gases and the intense flames that sow terror and devastation amongst your enemies. Bring powerful gun batteries to bear, screaming rockets and the famous Houqiang flamethrowers.

This set comes with a great complement of plastic miniatures to get you started. Inside, you'll get...
- 3x Hokkaido Heavy Cruisers (may also be built as Honshu Light Cruisers, Kanagawa Heavy Monitors, Miyagi Advanced Monitors, Osaka Cruisers, Oni Command Cruisers, or Yamaguchi Advanced Cruisers)
- 3x Kyoto Fast Frigates (may also be built as Sakata Heavy Destroyers)
- 6x Chita Automata Escort Tokens
- 3x Rin Exo-Sub SRS Tokens
- Doksuri Fighter SRS Tokens
...so plenty of different ways for you to play around with those Heavy Cruisers and, of course, ways to tweak your Frigates as well. In addition to the miniatures, much like with the Crown Starter Set, you'll also get your Rule Book, Victory & Valour Card Deck, Dice, Tokens and your Measuring Tools and Objectives.
A solid selection of miniatures for those embracing the power of the Empire in games of Dystopian Wars...

FAST frigates and HEAVY destroyers sharing a hull is some nomenclature fuckery. Frigates are, after all, a class one “step” smaller/lighter than destroyers IRL. Ofc, stuff gets weird IRL (modern destroyers approach WWII cruisers in displacement, etc.), but you’d expect fast frigates to be closer in tonnage/capability/staying power to corvettes rather than destroyers, let alone heavy destroyers which would probably be muscling into (light) cruiser territory.
As I recall the sprues have an additional midsection that can be glued in to make a larger ship. Maybe that is the “fuckery” 🙂
