Speedpaint Pens vs The Pile
We are legion
Last of the six legionary units are now complete. The look very impressive together.
Now on to the command bases. I’ve got three junior command bases and probably as many senior commanders. I’ve not decided exactly what to do with the miniatures I have. The junior commanders are extra Wargames Factory miniatures and I’ve added some senior commanders from Aventine and Warlord.

They’ve come together so well, they look fantastic. This has been a really inspiring project for those of us with say, completely hypothetically, 300 Romans in their stash without a lick of paint on them. Have you noticed any difference in quality as you have gone through the whole lot? Have the pen nibs degraded at all?
Thank you. I’m so pleased you find it inspiring. That is part of the point when sharing stuff with the community so it is great someone wants to give it a go. There is no discernible difference in finish quality that I can detect. My technique improved slightly on the animal skins but the pens delivered very consistent results right through. There is a bit of wear to the nibs, especially the Crusader Skin one but that is to be expected and hasn’t made any difference to their utility – it is a fairly approximate technique and the Speedpaint is very forgiving, it hides overlaps in a pleasing way.
Do you want to give it a go? This set was bought specifically to paint Romans and I’ve painted all of mine now. If, hypothetically speaking of course, someone wanted to get a cohort of their own huge army done using the fastest technique I’ve ever used, then they could drop me a PM with an address where I can send the pens to. After all, there is a useful step-by-step guide that you can follow online somewhere 🙂
Are these now… pen pals? XD
Indeed they are 🙂
