### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- What was your last hobby related project that you have abandoned and why?
And now back to the show.
January 31, 2026 at 2:42 pm #1961961Pledge: Play a game, paint some mini, make a video
Answer of the week: Honestly I can’t remember. Does passing on stuff you won as abandoning? Other than that I think it was the paintathon 2021 that I just couldn’t get myself to do. Hmm… I thought this question would be easier.
Music!
Just one ping!
January 31, 2026 at 2:55 pm #1961966I don’t abandon projects.
I just find new ones to do while I wait for inspiration/part/advances in technology required to continue on the ones I post-poned completion on …That’s why my current project needed a long time before I updated anything. I simply didn’t have the inspiration and tools required to continue for a long while.
January 31, 2026 at 3:41 pm #1961967This week’s pledge is to work on the next batch of Heroes’ 3 minis.
- What was your last hobby related project that you have abandoned and why? – My Egyptian terrain build was on pause for a couple of years, until I finished it for Terrain Fest or the Spring Clean Challenge (I forget which) a year or two ago. And there was a board game kickstarter (with minis) that I just sold on straight away.
January 31, 2026 at 4:40 pm #1961972I’ve abandonned several projects because I realised they were a bad idea. I’m trying to only start projects I will finish now.
Pledge: Continue to hobby in one form or another, but I’m keeping it vague.
January 31, 2026 at 4:53 pm #1961985this weeks pledge is both easy and likely to actually be finished : paint & finish the sliding doors for my built-in closet. 😀
I’ve already done 2 out of the 4.
The 3rd one has been primed and I’m literally waiting for the paint to dry, which according to instructions is after about 5 hours.I’m currently pondering if I should do a quick 2nd layer to cover the few bare spots I’m seeing or just paint the damned thing and be done with it. That second layer feels like overkill because the paint does cover nicely and I can always do a second layer of that instead.
The edges haven’t been painted mostly because it’s rather awkward to get to them all. At the DIY shop I spotted U-shaped plastic edges, which looked like they’d be useful. Turns out that whatever wood has been chosen is just a bit too thick to fit, which sucks as the next step up looked like it was too wide.
forgot to include the music:

January 31, 2026 at 5:26 pm #1962005This weeks pledge – after a lot of avoidance and self induced distraction, to finally engage with my pile of shame (pile is not an exaggeration at this stage) which grew considerably over Christmas. Its time to face the skeletons in my cupboard (ironic that there are actually a few boxes of skeletons in there).
January 31, 2026 at 9:56 pm #1962049Pledge: Finish off my Speedpaint pen Romans this weekend as I’m clearing the decks to take on some painting for one of my mates. He’s paying, mate’s rates but still paying, so I guess that counts as a commission, right?
Answer: The last project I fully abandoned was a tabletop layout for a skirmish wargame I wanted to play with the Batman: Gotham City Chronicles boardgame miniatures. I was planning on playing the boardgame and then reusing the miniatures on a massive city scape table which would have included a skyscraper, monorail, park with funfair and port. Sometimes my ideas are much bigger than my capacity to deliver them 😀 I sold the boardgame stuff last year so that project is definitely a gonner. It is unusual for me to do that. I’ve got 50+ projects stashed away in the pile so it is much more normal for a project to go into suspended animation. I usually circle back to them eventually.
There is some great music coming out of Ireland at the moment. Something very new is this one:
Definitely the best song about a lottery scratch card 😀
Something a bit older but still modern from Fontaines:January 31, 2026 at 10:00 pm #1962050and that’s door number 3 done … 🙂
Tomorrow I shall attempt to get it back on the rails. Given how much trouble the other gave me that is going to involve a lot of curses.I also had a bit more trouble getting that final door of the rails as well. I so hope I didn’t cause issues with that one, because that would not be fun. It is too late to worry about that though, so I shall be thinking positive thoughts.
It’s good to finally have some progress with this bit though. Painting the door with the rollers was surprisingly easy as I didn’t see any obvious paint marks.
It’s probably due to the doors laying flat and the paint self-levelling a bit, because I doubt my technique was that good 😀Initially I had planned to add hazard stripes (using tape), but I’m not sure I want to do that. I may do a mockup once all the doors are done before doing it for real.
February 1, 2026 at 8:09 am #1962069Blargh! Lost my post.. egh.. here goes again
Pledge: Keep working through Dottirs of Hel and the Harryhausen Hellenics
Last project I abandoned was a ventilation fan unit that I didn’t have the engineering know-how or access to a 3d printer to realize a mounting bracket. I had failed to figure out a rear access panel while building the case as well.
Besides that I’ve been rolling other projects into each other or putting things on temporary hold as I plow through other stuff.
@pagan8th Sneaky sneak… we’ll be watching.
@limburger 1:1 ratio issues and it is a big elephant to chew on
@waywarddarkwolf Skellibobs to come out and quickly painted for less headaches. Easy peasy, cheap and easy
@zoidpinhead “I’ll get back to that”… often we say this but its always crazy to see when we actually do
Since I haven’t added enough music for a while
February 1, 2026 at 9:29 am #1962109no elephants here . .. well technically there are as they are part of the punic wars boxed set that’s hiding behind one of those doors 😉
I think that whoever installed those doors did so before adding the framing wood, because with the two middle doors I literally had to bend the wooden framework forward just to get them in.
With all that said … the 3rd door is back into position. It sucks that these things are almost as tall as the room and they are a bit too heavy and akward to maneuver for me. Final door is ready to be prepped for priming and then I can paint it at the end of the day with final assembly tomorrow.
@horati0nosebl0wer trance is not music. It’s noise … 😛
And to call it ‘classic’ is an insult to good music too.And if you want to know Dutch culture … I present you with this:

February 1, 2026 at 7:15 pm #1962170This week’s pledge is to work on the rest of the Haunted Gatehouse that will be a part II project. At least paint the core of it ready for when the airbrush components and texture paint arrives.
some local bands around my neck of the wood
February 2, 2026 at 12:32 am #1962205I have currently abandoned 4 projects, not saying I won’t return to them.
- 15mm bolt action
- Painting 80’s – 90’s ork army
- Painting 80’s – 90’s Eldar army
- Painting every metal bloodbowl team.
All abandoned for my current project that’s been going 2 years now.
No prizes for guessing what I’m doing this week 🤣
February 2, 2026 at 8:00 am #1962214It’s been a while since I joined in one of these threads, hope you’ve all been behaving yourselves as usual.
Pledge is to build the Combat Patrol I’m painting for a charity thing. I quite like building, esp modern GW plastics so this isn’t too much of a hardship.
My last fully abandoned project was, like @zoidpinhead Gotham City. I was going to do a modular table with lighting and everything. Then I build half of the MDF kits and realised there was no way I could store the whole thing. Still hurts to have put that one aside but I’m not moving to a bigger flat anytime soon.
@Wonkygoblin something dwarfish as usual, yeah?
The Algorithm served me up a new channel this week and I’ve been listening to a lot of this as I potter about the flat
February 2, 2026 at 8:05 am #1962215@Wonkygoblin abandoning Orks!? How could you!
And welcome again @kingthrall nice to see new fac… uhm avatars XD
hope you’ve all been behaving yourselves as usual.
Not sure if that is something good or not XD
It’s -4°C and riding to work is a challenge. That being said: cold office is worse. But that is what you get when the landlord of $customer tries to build “energy efficient heating” on his own and not calling in the pros. *sigh*
Time for more coffee!
