Games Workshop is renaming their colours to Warhammer colours:

Citadel Colour is becoming Warhammer Colour

So you know you can paint your Warhammer minis with these paints.

The funny thing is my Hellsmith boxes still say stuff like 3 Citadel miniatures on the front of the box. So will I be able to paint them in the future? 😉

I’m kind of surprised that ‘citadel’ is still in use by GW as part of their marketing at all …

Citadel dates back to the 80’s doesn’t it?

Soon mothers will wander in stores and buy “the warhammer” for their kids. Even if the kids are playing FoW or anything else XD

Citadel Miniatures was the original brand name for the miniatures that started it all in the 80’s.

I guess GW has been quietly reorganising and rebranding bits of its range.

Wargames Foundry still sells some of the 1980s Citadel ranges – historicals, odds and ends.

Mid 80s I remember buying Citadel before there was Warhammer. D&D minis for me!

The video is pretty good and the tag line works. Same paint. Obvious new name. Probably one of those things that matters more in third party stores vs an actual Warhammer store but feels like a *shrug* yep, makes sense kind of thing to me. Citadel has been dead as a term with GW for a very long time at this point otherwise

The sad part is: customers be like that. Always. You can’t win.

As a card carrying Grognard it is sad to see the Citadel brand finally disappearing.  From a marketing perspective I wonder why it has taken so long.

I’m surprised they didn’t use this opportunity to renew the range in some way and make you throw all the old paint away and buy the new properly official stuff.  Maybe they could make everyone change paint every time they put out a new edition of 40K?  That makes about as much sense to me as changing the official rules every couple of years.

New branding, betting new brand prices for the same old paint.

Oh and maybe forcing stockists to buy a bundle

If the paint we sold could be used on the minutures we sold was never a question I had in 5 years of GW retail, so unless the customer base has gotten really dumb a complete bs reason.

I think that’s the result of GW itself teaching generations of people to only use their ‘official’ products for everything.

It tends to generate customers with absolute zero imagination.

(heck … we see the same thing with rules where folk ‘demand’ official miniatures for ff-ing historical games … )

Miniature agnostic paints is what we really need 😀

The companies selling paints aren’t helping either.

@dags I can totally see GW forcing stockists to buy and replace their entire Citadel paint range … )

Everything is being rebranded as Warhammer, so it makes sense.  But for me, it’s sad to see the loss of the iconic “citadel” branding.  When I was growing up they were always referred to as citadel miniatures, not Warhammer miniatures, and the paints matched the miniatures branding.

But, the times they are a changing.
