Welcome to the tenth (hopefully not last) monthly painting competition (PaintComp) down here in the forums. Taking a page from @warbossd gaming club book as inspiration there will be a key word or phrase set at the start of the month and anybody who likes to participates paints something up, builds something or what ever creative outlet strikes them
Then, not later than midnight local time on the 25th of each month you post your results here (not in the project system!) and we all get to do a community vote on it! Voting will open the day after entries close and will close at midnight local time on the 28th with results posted the following day.
There are no prizes involved, only fun! It’s not mandatory. It’s just for fun.
The key phrase for this month is partly inspired by the new 40k intro video but has a wide enough scope to suit all of us:
Weird

March 28, 2026 at 2:51 pm #1969103March 29, 2026 at 9:02 am #1969167I will agree with @pagan8th there. I will disagree with all the weirdos who care to engage in dealings with reverse centaur and reverse mermaids. Those things are just unnatural.
March 29, 2026 at 12:12 pm #1969201given the level of weird we’re used to over here … I expect maximum weirdness from all of you 😀
April 2, 2026 at 5:55 pm #1969703April 8, 2026 at 8:39 am #1970287April 8, 2026 at 10:04 am #1970291Come on @sundancer , you can do this. As you know weird has many meanings. We usually think about synonyms such as; unusual, uncanny, odd, different, ghostly, mysterious, etc. That should mean anything that we don’t see in everyday life counts. So pretty much any non-human fantasy miniature and/or anything magical, including Force users in your favoured Sci-Fi setting.
If that’s not doing it for you then why not think about the use of weird to describe someones fate or destiny. Any miniature that represents a character with a defined fate or famous destiny would be good, so again in Star Wars any of the film characters, good or evil or not sure, are strong candidates. Got Boba Fett, Luke, Darth or Han hanging about?
We know you have 40k Orks. They have characters that are literally called Weirdboys, the new one of which helped inspire this choice of term. Maybe that would make a fun kitbash if you don’t have one to hand. I’d love to see an ork or grot with a Frostgrave wizard’s hat waiving a mysterious object in a threatening fashion.
We aren’t sticklers for the exact meaning of the chosen term. You could even pick something entirely normal to submit which would make your choice “weird” in the context of everyone else submitting unusual or odd looking things.
So you can justify choosing literally anything. The Ghoul? Sure – why not. Go on, grab something and get it all covered in paint. We look forward to seeing what you choose when it’s done 🙂
April 9, 2026 at 5:32 pm #1970489My entry for this month. Weird in a very silly way, and also infinitely improbable:

Denizen Miniatures Space Hitchhikers from the mid-1980s. Proper 25mm, they measure 1″ from base to top of head. They are based on the lead characters in the BBC TV series of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which first aired in 1981. Amazingly you can still get them through their new owner – Space Denizens.
April 9, 2026 at 9:12 pm #1970499I only mentioned today in my project that I needed a Paranoid Android. Just checked their website, but out of stock.
April 9, 2026 at 11:05 pm #1970502@pagan8th There is a version in a more modern size of miniature by Tangent Miniatures
April 13, 2026 at 7:43 pm #1970983I always found the idea of crossing a dragon with a fairy very weird.

More pics and painting guide in the project entry.
