Dark Age Week – Unboxing The Brood
May 7, 2016 by dignity
The Brood are an ugly but don't be fooled by their looks as they are also a ferocious faction in the world of Dark Age.
The Tiny Pud's, as cute as they are, make sure not to ignore them as their bite is definitely worse than their bark!

PUDS!
Very nice that they are one piece models and look very dynamic out of the box. I would paint them up either how they have it except a bit brighter or go with a light purple.
Damn now I want these guys and outcasts, as for painting them I think an ice type scheme with off-white and a rich blue then maybe a green/brown ink to blend it together
The Puds are really cute and terrifying – Agree with Justin here though, the little wheezy Growl sound is just what I imagined upon seeing them :p
Ohhhhh mini in a sigle piece just perfect for my boddy
okay at least these models are unique
Pearlescent acrylic inks with whatever colour scheme i settled on, you can get some nice effects when you either mix with paint or use them as a glaze
Revolting yet adorable. That’s quite an achievement for a sculptor.
This is definitely my faction.
I think I’d go with something weird like purple and orange.
PUDs, PUDs and PUDs, love the models in this set, I asked my friend if I could paint these pink with purple spots and he said no! Can’t understand why? 🙂
I like the green/brown and green/purple colors they have.. I’d probably paint the Ratchet with the same green instead of the white
Am I crazy for wanting a pud as a pet?
….Slice And Dice Indeed….
These look amazing!
I like the green painting scheme on these models.
Love the Puds, with the name of their attack being Nom. I was thinking that my faction would be either Forsaken or Salt Flat Nomads however these are looking interesting with Core still to come. Definitely think pearlescent paint would look good on these with maybe a spot colour of a neon colour.
The brood hounds look awesome! 😀
Quite interesting prob not my fav
I really like these guys- I would go for a really bright (maybe neon) colour with an ultra dark spot colour and heavily glaze them to look slimy!
Nice, Nice, niceeee
Very awesome looking minis. Like the rest of their minis
Love those Puds!
Now these are some figures I’d love to paint.
i think i would try that poisonous frog color. never try something like that ithink it would be cool
I understand that the rules are available on their website dark-age.com yet are there other books going into the fluff? The site suggests there are. If so, where can they be bought in the UK?
puds !!!! fro the win.
Those models look sweeet
not thinking that im all that interested in the brood myself.
Very cool starter set, it seems different from the brood presented in the other vid. I’d go dark greens for painting I think. Or muddy browns!
I think one-piece miniatures in a starter set is ideal. These models definitely convey the genetic experiment gone wrong (or right, depending on your point of view). Another excellent starter set.
some nice we models there – i do like the look of them dogs
I get a Langoliers feel from those Puds.
I hope they switch to resin or plastic minis. But overall very cool looking.
I love the models of Puds and Broodhounds. The rest of the models are also nice looking.
The Puds are adorable!
I actually kind of like the color scheme of the ratchets though i do understand what they are talking about.
Nice models, as far as painting, I think I would go with a florescent green and black with each drybrushed with the opposite color
Any chance there will be another battle report?
I think I would paint them a pail purple with angry red bits around growths…
So this is a set that I would look at if was going to pick a couple of sets to learn the game and teach others as well. I do like the mini’s included, though I’d probably want to expand on it pretty quickly.
I will definitly check out the rules.
I like the wide range of paint schemes you can choose for these guys. I actually like the white/black/orange paint scheme on the Ratchets. It makes them look more military science experiment, instead of just another gribbly beast. I would try pulling this paint scheme throughout the force.
I’ve used nailpolish as a varnish over a white paint scheme on some Tau Stealthsuits to give them a pearlescent reflection. If he hasn’t already this might be something @warzan would like to try.
Paint scheme wise I would like to go for some greens and yellows to emphasis the toxic, mutation aspects, but I feel that there should be some variety. I think some flesh colours and some browns, purples and pinks in a grotesque style to show those that are not as far from humanity as some of the others.
Cool faction, but some of the others have taken my eye more.
creepers… creepers everywhere
I would paint them to look like swamp creatures with glowy bits.
probably go simple, just black & yellow with maybe some green or red to break it up
I think,I would paint them with a pale flesh tone, then plenty of washes and glazes to make them look bruised and mutated.
I like a few other factions more than this one, but they still look creepy and cool.
One of my favorite lines of models for this game… so many options when painting them up… can go very biological and gooey.. can go armored… can go with human skin tones and life like muscling or can go all psychodelic-grown-in-a-swamp.. love it..
Brood is one of my fav factions. I also like that these sculpts are not multipart with too many fiddly bits. Good stuff.
this screams ..Borderlands all over…and this is awesome.. Love it ..kill it ..Muhahahahah
This will be my first starter box love these, and I really like the green and purple colour scheme
I imagine the Brood might work great in somewhat natural but off colours. Mainly rather earthly tones, but bleak and faded looking, contrasted by darker, murky and swampy shades.
So, grades of white, fawn, light grey-brown, off olive, blueish, turquoise tints. To indicate some spawning pool slime coverings here and there add toxic yellow or purple glazes in recesses or as specks or membranes.
The white skin on the Ratchets are inspired Brom’s paintings, I guess. It really appeals to me and I would opt for very bleeched looking skin.
Dark Age is so cool!
Totally forgot:
To me, the Brood are the one Dark Age faction that really is in dire need of an extensive overhaul in miniature designs and sculpts respectively.
Those one-piece-figures are certainly nice ones, and I very much respect them, but so not on a par with the later sculpts it hurts my heart. I believe they would greatly profit from some crisp and slick re-design and posing.
Defenitely they’d look awesome in that “new” Dark Age style!
this faction look as good as I though and a nice way to start
I love the concept of these miniatures! But the kukulkani and st. Isaac are before them.
Dark Age looks fun!
Absolutely beautiful miniatures. This game has really struck a want that I didn’t know I had. I’ve played post-apocalyptic games before but none ever took the action to another planet in the far future. The possibilities are endless! Bravo gentlemen!
This was interesting!
Wow! This looks fantastic!
This is a crazy looking faction.
Wow, this minis are awesome…… can we just stop getting hit with the awesomeness???
Brother G
It looks interesting!

Dark Age rox!

I’m absolutely amazed by Dark Age!
