Dropfleet Commander Boot Camp – Friday
Checking Out Rob's Painted Scourge Fleet
We take a look at the fleet painted up by Rob, of the Drop Beasts (more on that this weekend), who has gone for a very deep sea theme for his Scourge Fleet for this weekend.
They're looking great and it would be awesome to see them doing battle over the next couple of days!

Still no idea what colour I’m going to paint my Silly Squid Squad.
Gotta love the idea of the paint scheme, like deep sea creatures 🙂
Looking good and it just goes to show that you can draw inspiration from everywhere.
Rob – look on the Dropfleet Commander Facebook community – some of the best Shaltari schemes are darker and more menacing than the Hawk sunset palette.
I am still thinking… I am on the fb pages 🙂
That is cool! I think I am going to do something similar!
Deep sea and fish defo seems to be informing possible colour schemes. I admit, I’m looking a silver and blue!
That’s an awesome personal background for Rob’s ships becoming darker the larger they grow. It is also an amazing scheme he has there. Very terrifying.
Lovey paint work!!
Wait, did he build AND paint those ships in an afternoon? I am such a slacker.
Yeah..of course:-)
no he did not he’s a liar and a wrong-un like all scourge players (only joking Rob)
he brought those models to the bootcamp pre-painted
I like that sceme, well done!
those are some nice looking ships
Fantastic paint job. Good pic, though I wish you had chosen a non-cool color (like… maybe orange?) for really minimal highlights. Like a cuddle-fish. But that’s just my opinion…
Looking good!
I like the changing colour scheme by class of ship, a very cool idea
Tomato Red, Grape Green, Cauliflower White, Aubergine Purple, Prune Black. I have many more if you are interested 🙂
are you hungry by any chance @minty45
Lol just wondering what colour scheme would go well against BAAAAANANAAAAAA
Brilliant
Love the scourge colour scheme, as far as Shaltari go I am working on making mine look like snow flakes
some anti-shine maybe? or is it intentional?
I think its intentional. Or have you ever seen matt sea creatures that are still alive?
Looks good, even though the scourge are the faction I San least fond of
It’s like seaQuest DSV! Whoop whoop
Always a good idea to look at nature for inspiration, whether it is squid… or banana.
I like it. If only some of the accent colors were brighter to pop more it would be just about perfect.
Justin popping up and shaking his fist at the banana comment was everything. I can’t even. Crying, laughing so hard as I type this.
Interesting with the blue. Might add some purple?
Nice paint job.
I’m thinking perhaps dark hulls but the shades getting progressively lighter (and sparkly) as it goes out towards all the fins and bits. Deep purples and indigos on the hulls, and up to light blues and silvers on the outer bits.
Nice blue
I like the sea theme. I went very vibrant to scare humans!
Not a fan f the army but your idea about sea creature looks great
Those ships look fantastic. They must be awesome in person…
Which is closer to the actual color: the still photos or the video?
The video. The photos have picked up the shine more from the quickshade
take drive over to the local mini lot and do a fleet in all the hipster old school schemes.
Really like the effect of that paint scheme. Very nice.
Awesome looking scourge! Love the transition of colours as you increase in tonnage.
Very nice!!!
Really awesome colour scheme for the scourge 🙂
That Battlecruiser looks a beaut! Nice job Rob!
Im loving that fleet scheme, explaining the inspiration behind it only makes me love it more, I went for like a living blue metallic look myself, which I do love but everytime I see something like this I cant help but want to change it lmao
Really nice paint job. Sorry, I cannot help you regarding the Shaltari paint scheme. I am also thinking of what I will do, but if it was for me, every ship of every faction would be green anyway.
.
The stills and the video have very different colour. The ones on the video are really nice and I like the idea of the hue changing a bit between ship classes.
Shaltari paint, I am thinking a dusk or dawn sky, going from dark blue up to vibrant purple/magenta even in to pink
Well done on the Scourge.
He modelled and painted that in one day? respect.
I really like the color scheme, and the idea to differentiate the ship classes by intensity of the color. Really nice job.
Also – the Battle Cruiser has to be my favorite Scourge Ship yet.
Cheers
Bartender
Sea creatures are the way, I’ve been looking at nudebranches for inspiration for my Scourge.
cant wait for saturdays content
Beasts of war have a meerkat.
Very Avatar
I’m a scourge player too. I hope hawk release painting videos like they did for Dropzone. The paint guide that shipped with the models is helpful, but not enough to tell exactly what they did.
These ships turned out quite nice!
I’ve seen some amazing Scourge colour schemes. The only thing I’ve decided is I’ll be using my airbrush…
haha loved the Justin popup
Great paint job Rob.
Looking great
Love the blue colour scheme for the Scourge, nice to hear that they are based on squids since I always imagined the Scourge to be very gribbly.
Nice paint job! I love the thought you put around the color choices for each ship.
Um Rainbow fleet! Every ship a different brillant color and their battle cry can be “Taste the Rainbow!” Okay that might be a bit much but I’ve been up for a while so I will blame that.
I feel like either my PHR or UCM will be a dark grey with two red diagonal red stripes. Possibly teal stripes…
nice looking fleet.
I really like the idea of changing the colours dependent on the “level” of ship, should look really nice when they are all done.
Someone brought a Basilisk to the party. . . oh boy
ROBERT!!!! I get to hear your actual voice!
Shaltari. . . go with Pink! Pink washes!
I’d have never have thought of blue Scourge; but they look great!
I really like that deep blue color, nicely done.
I like the squid color scheme he picked out … feels very organic and natural.
very nice, love the idea of the gradation as you go up in size
Really nice scheme
I have no clue what to paint my scourge like, so might try some kind of pink and purple or other such wierdness
CommodoreRob and his fleet of hedgehogs.
That colour scheme would look awesome with washes of imperial Purple and Violet
Expanions! “Deepsea Commander?” The UCM only have submarines and surface ships, while the PHR have several sub surface ships, the Shaltari are mostly unaffected with several new “create a void by transporting huge amounts of water out from underneath a vessel, crushing it with it’s own weight!” tactics.
The Scourge meanwhile, rule the seas and are one the most powerful factions.
Missions like – assault the deep sea compound, where getting your boarding subs to the target is paramount.
Lastly! The Resistance finally joins, using old per-Scourge submarines and old ironclad like surface vessels, in low numbers HA!
* “pre-Scourge” invasion.
I have seen these get better and better of the last 2 days, very impressed!
Was very impressed when you divulged your epic collection of fleets, down the pub before the Walking Dead boot camp.
I still think you should have taken the entire collection to the boot camp and said “all at once boys. I’ll take you all on!” and just pushed tables together and taken over half the boot camp.
🙂
Even though it kind of clashes with your Scourge fleet on show I’d go for a Babylon 5 Minbari dark blue / purple.
With your UCM you should drop from a grimy battleship grey for the heavier classes down to a battle damaged white for the smaller vessels?
Have a great time Rob
Love the scheme might try and do something similar
Love the paint scheme
AAAAH I really want an airbrush for this faction.
They look like beautiful fish. Love this colour scheme.
That colour scheme does work well with scourge. I like non-standard paint schemes!
really great job !!
at least they’re not yellow, nice job
Wow! Love the translucent blues
it is loking very nice, have a fun bootcamp
kill it before it lays eggs!
Those details are impressive (and intimidating)
Lovely paint jobs on those minis
Great scheme Rob. There’s no way I could get that much done in a day. Given the organic shape of the Scourge and the blue color scheme, it kinda reminds me of the Minbari from Babylon 5.
Neither could I get it done in a day:-)
I may have to attempt influencing my gf’s color scheme
Nice looking scheme. I’m torn between doing something similar to my ground forces, or even flipping the colours around (main colour highlights) or playing with something more opalescent like the box scheme.
Finally catching upon the comments thatnks for all your kind words. And ideas about how i do my shaltari.
As to the inspiration this is it:
https://goo.gl/images/o6gyba
I like the class having different color scheme
I’m going to prime my scourge fleet light purple and then ink it with a dark purple just like my scourge DZC army.
And if you get close enough to see anything more than blue and purple, you are dead!
For your Shaltari: Why I was searching for more pictures of your Scourge inspiration I stumbled over a picture of an European mantis. Why not go for something like this, maybe similar to the Tlaxcallan colour scheme you can find on page 149 of the Dropzone Commander rulebook? A pale green with silver.
nicely done Rob, looking good!
I like the idea of color variations for the different classes, very neat.
Amazing paint work. Nice t-shirt
great vid bomb Justin,
cool.
Just love the detail of the colors fading into each other and the subtle highlights.
Seeing that this fleet is using all the “cooler” colors maybe do your other fleet with more “warmer” colors, reds, yellows and oranges maybe adding some blacks and possibly touch of brown for some variation.
How about something like this:
This paint job looks really really good! as for few hours of work thats a kick ass job and i really dig blue scheme
