Fog Of Love is a firm favourite of many folks right now in the board gaming world. The team behind the game have recently released a bunch of different expansions for it AND some alternative covers to show off that love truly is for everyone.

Spiel ’18 caters to all ages of gamers, so of course there is plenty of the Pokemon Trading Card Game getting played.

It’s really encouraging to see just how many people there are getting into the game, with both longtime fans and new players coming to the ever-evolving (haha) collectable card game.

This game is massive and we can’t wait to try it out again when we get back to the studio. Is this a game that has popped up on your radar yet or is this the first time you’re seeing it?

One of the most popular stands at Spiel ’18 has been Klask’s, a fast-paced dexterity game using magnets!

The game plays out a bit like table football. The aim is to use magnets under the table to guide the ball into your opponent’s goal. However, you have to be careful.

Get too keen and you could find yourself swarmed with magnetic, white obstacles.

I have tried my hand at some blacksmithing and it ain’t easy. So, it might be a good idea for me to instead try my hand at building swords in Swordcrafters from Adam’s Apple Games.

This game has you building up a sword from a selection of options, matching gems, working towards specific projects laid out by the game and also battling enemies too.

I love the fact that you end up with some amazing 3D creations!

Devir Games are here at Essen SPIEL ’18 talking about some of their new games. One, in particular, is called Silk and involves you farming silk from large creatures and trying to make the best machine out of this board game.

Everyone loves a bit of Assassin’s Creed and Triton Noir are pushing things to the next level and bringing things to the tabletop with Brotherhood Of Venice.

Awaken Realms are stepping into the world of Arthurian Legends with Tainted Grail. This is looking utterly awesome, featuring some stunning miniatures and some great mechanics which help tell a winding narrative on the tabletop.

Loads of companies have brought some truly stunning tables with them to show off their games and draw you into the games’ world.

To my mind, the best has to be the Dwarf table for Para Bellum’s conquest. Seeing those doughty warriors marching out of their subterranean home makes for an incredibly cinematic diorama.

We stopped in with Brain Games to talk about what’s new with them. They have a few new ideas for people to get stuck into including ICE COOL 2 which expands upon the dexterity-based game with more flicking action as well as Pyramids of Pengqueen which is a restyling of another game all about racing and hidden information.

We also delve into some of their other games, all with an awesome quick and easy feel to them. The first is a trick-taking game with a bit of a difference in Pikoko. This sounds like a fascinating game for a group of friends as well as younger gamers…how cool is that!

We also have Orc-lympics which is a little twist on the sports genre in card form where you will be pushing your luck to try and win certain events.

As if the gaming wasn’t enough, there’s also a couple of freckin’ bars! You can come and have a lovely drink here at Essen SPIEL ’18 if you need a break from the cardboard.

Well, in saying that you could also have a drink AND play some board games. That ALSO sounds utterly epic! We need these at more conventions I say.

We are here to say goodbye from Friday here at Essen SPIEL ’18 and it has been quite the awesome day. We’ve had some ace interviews, talked about some great games…and we’re only halfway through. There is still a massive Saturday and Sunday worth of awesomeness to get stuck into.
