Really nice matey!! love the idea that there is an end point to a campaign as you pointed out in the video.
Do you plan to put a starter set together? as this could make an ideal gift for my nephews birthday, or perhaps xmas as it is just around the corner 🙂
Thanks
Nice system indeed. Like the idea, might have to plump for this now lol. Dwarf crew ahoy lol
This system sounds like fun. I like the idea of integrating a bit of roleplay into my tabletop game. The only problem I see might be that it might be a bit complex. For me as a not native english speaker the question is: how good to read is the rulebook? can anybody give advice how easy the system is to understand?
Thanks beforehand from Germany!
If you can get basic idea from the videos, you’ll most likely won’t have problems with the rulebook.
The campaign only seems to have been a GW thing. I really enjoyed building my Necro gang. And throwing a tanty when they die. This gives a real sense of ownership to a game. I wonder if Infinity or Malifaux could work with a similar system
I there is a Dead Pirate that looks like LeChuck, I’ll go for it!
if not i gonna made my Famous Ork Pirate 😛 , just because i’m anti-stablisment!
brilliant imaginative design. Narrative is a powerful gaming aid and these guys are rinsing it. Im sold.
The campaign rules seem to have much in common with GW’s Necromunda, Gorgamorka and Mordheim. Which isn’t really that surpricing since Cutlass! was developed and written partly by Gavin Thorpe. Who has had some hand in writing and developing the said GW’s games.
But I’m liking what I’m hearing. The campaign rules seem a little more refined from the GW’s game lines. I like how each campaing has a clear begining and ending. Seems that you can still play the campaign to the end, even if your crew gets hammered in almost every game and still have a chance of winning the campaign. The problem with Mordheim, Necromunda and Gorgamorka was that once one warband/gang/mob got a little too powerful, there was really no way of stopping it. This usually led to restarting the campaign with different bands as other player got frustrated in losing all the time.
All in all Cutlass! looks to be promising game and I’ll most likely get the rulebook at some point. I’m kind of balancing this game with Freebooter’s Fate in which to get first. They both have similar nautical theme and almost identical crews. I’m liking the campaign rules of Cutlass! but the miniatures of Freebooter’s Fate are absolutely fantastic. It looks pretty easy to mix up the miniatures from either Black Scorpion or Freebooter Miniatures and use them in both game systems.
@netdiver I agree that there is a good amout of GW feel in Cutlass, but both Adam and Gav is ex-GW’s at least on a freelance basis.
– if only time would let us we would have a campaign running here soon
