ShadowFighter88 has sent us an interesting Cygnar list based around Kara Sloane for Warmachine. Andy takes a look, but will he be able to improve this awesome blue gun-line?

An army list discussion that isn’t for 40k? I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you!
The list sounds solid and functional as it is. I think the weakest part is the minimum unit of boomhowlers’ when you could make some cuts and get the full unit to make a real tarpit. I don’t care to play filthy trolls with my noble patriots of the swan but I think I have a solid idea of how they work. You have to accept that no matter what offensive effects you get from Sloan’s feat they are a defensive unit and need to be defensive. They need more bodies than they need Murdoch, so he’s probably not worth it for this list (I do love that guy though). Keep epic Eiryss though, she will be your saving grace from arm buffs stacked on models that already have high arm, no shooting can handle multiple arm 21s coming at you.
I’ve never been a big trencher fan but I can see them making themselves a nuisance as a front line rather than trying to be durable. The double chainguns are very interesting suggestions, but I think they would be more for covering fire to block enemy infantry than for shooting. They have potential to work here for sure.
The biggest change I would make to this list would be to change the defender to the battlegroup and the hunter to the gun mage marshal. Lets face it, there are times you NEED a melee beater and the closest thing this list brings is the defender’s pow16 hammer loaded with focus. Regardless of anything else, I feel this is a critical change that needs to happen.
This is how I would run this list:
Captain Kara Sloan (*6pts)
* Defender (9pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
* * Hunter (6pts)
Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team (4pts)
Greygore Boomhowler & Co. (Boomhowler and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator (1pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
Thanks for taking a look at it guys.
I’d originally included Boomhowler and his boys as a tarpit for scenario play – tying up the enemy in melee and keeping them off objectives, although I can see how a full unit of them like Dais suggested above would be more useful. Trenchers could probably do the same, I’ll have to look into them.
Embarrassingly, I still haven’t tested this list out through Vassal despite how long it’s been since I sent it. Lots of distractions and then a couple of computer upgrades and forgetting to reinstall Vassal. I’ll post again when I test the original version and then Dais’ and Andy’s variants. Mind you; the Trencher one does sound rather appealing – I remember really liking the look of Trenchers when I first saw them but could never find a good list for them that I liked.
Also, the plan for Kara was that she wouldn’t just shoot hard targets that were immune to non-magical shooting; she’d shoot at anything that augments larger sections of an army – UAs, character solos that improve specific unit types while alive, that sort of stuff.
That would be a fun list to play against w/ my cryx or trollbloods for that matter…
And thanx for the video guys, You could tell Andy and Darrell, was digging it 🙂
More Warmahordes I say.
I think this list missing out by not having Kara run all the Jacks especially when it comes to her feat turn.
I was tempted, believe me, but Kara needs her Focus and it’s hard to say no to a Rune-Shooting Defender.
the new format for on the table was great and infinity has some great minis.
