ah … just in time, because my blood&plunder pledge has arrived 🙂
The limited edition rulebook from the kickstarter is bigger & even prettier.
It feels like an actual book from the era.
Mine too!! My poor Dutch were missing their commander though 🙁
I think Blood and Plunder has been a breath of fresh in the age of piracy wargaming.
I tried the games last Adepticon and it was fun, the community in my area is not too big unfortunate so is hard to convince people to play…
I think that’s a problem for anyone who doesn’t play [insert popular game] in his area.
That is a common problem and why I do not get into a lot of new miniature games. Unless you have others who want to play, it is not much fun. There is one local shop I go to where it is 40K or Hordes and nothing else. Another where it is Infinity and Star Wars X-Wing Game and nothing else. Thankfully I have a shop where people seem to like to mix it up a bit and so I can play Guild Ball and Star Wars Legion and people who play Saga and some others. I do not believe in my area I can get Blood and Plunder to the table. However, if they come out with a smaller scale age of sail ship combat system, then there could be a chance.
I hope for it too, I would love to have the feeling of more skirmish than having all the terrain or ships to really attract the people in my area.
I solved this by buying complete ranges. That said, 99% of the games I play are fairly small warband to small skirmish level games (Quar, World of Twilight, War of Ashes, Savage Core, Relicblade, Tribal, Rogue Stars). The only big games I have are Blood and Plunder, and Saga. Which I’ve mostly replaced with Tribal. It’s fairly easy for me to build armies for multiple people to play with. Quar, War of Ashes, Savage Core, and World of Twilight also have miniature ranges that I would collect and paint even if I wasn’t playing the games.
I think if you really want to get into a game that no one local is playing, you’re just going to have to kit out a two player game and run demos somewhere. That’s way easier when you only need a dozen minis per person. But you could also talk to a local game shop about helping run demos.
Easier said than done and I have tried. The shopkeeper at the 40K shop does not want anything to take business away from the 40K items. The infinity shop feels the same about his game of choice. They do not want the competition to take away from their store and do not want to bring in another line. I also have limited funds and time and unless my brother or best friend are interested, it is not happening. Everyone is all in on Star Wars Legion and Guild Ball so that is what we play. I am not going to waste my time on something I know will just go up on the shelf and not get play time. There are limits and I have learned to live within those limits.
Its sad how brick and mortar stores have changed in order to stay in business. You need to find a gaming store or a mom and pop place to work with. If they can order Firelock through their distributors then offer to run a demo to drum up sales for them. However they have to promote it. Then if you are lucky you can find one other soul to join you in pirate gaming.
why not in the glory of the Spanish empire gaming 😉
Oak and Iron for the win! Check out kickstarter!
Looking really good can’t wait for more content
Firelock continues to impress with every new faction. With such a balanced system you don’t have to worry about the new factions coming in and just wrecking your old crews.
it’s humans vs humans … so I’d guess that makes balancing a lot easier 😉
If only that were true ?
It’s still rocket science to me …
That was said on sci-fi concepts forum and the man they were talking to was a…… for NASA!
I’m all for a sort of crowdfunding to get things out quicker, but it’s going to sting when it comes to shipping and customs fees unless they find an overseas partner for the EU.
Awesome game though, I hope it keeps growing!
It’s going to sting in the U.S., too. I think shipping for a single blister adds 50% or more to the cost. I’d rather see them release groups of models together every few months rather than trickle them in.
What about alternate sources of models ?
The rules are the only thing you really need for this game.
Then again … this company does deserve support.
Their stuff is at wayland games
Oh man, now I’ve got to start painting pirates! That is a gorgeous rule book.
I love this game and the incredible detail and all the thought they put into the mechanics. Whatever they make I will buy so I NEED to win some stuff!!
I am so excited to see the Dutch in this game. And pirates in the snow? Awesome1
I’m excited to see the Dutch in any game/era.
This one is special, because we ruled the seas 🙂
I have a special affection for the Dutch. I worked for Philips for 37 years. I have been to Holland 7 or 8 times. Beautiful country and really great people!
For the Dutch you really need to set it in the Banda Islands in what is now Indonesia
Yep, Indonesia is where we did the most damage *eh* had the most success (depending on who you ask). That would be the ‘Verenigde Oost Indische Compangie’ (VOC) to give it its official name.
Then again … Piet Heyn’s success at capturing the silver fleet (only half of the actual fleet) is worth something too. However from what I’ve heard it wasn’t much of a battle, but then there’s always the ‘what if’ variants to explore.
If you can find it read Nathaniels nutmeg by Giles Milton it’s a superb book about the spice wars. He also wrote Big Chief Elizabeth about the colonization of America

Love the new funding idea. Kick Starters are great but we have to wait too long. Breaking it up means a pretty steady flow of new stuff.
Have been looking forward to this, have been playing Blood and Plunder for some time, and have the new book already, need to invest in the Dutch they are looking great, and some upgrades to my French and English factions, and some of the different new characters, and some………………………..
Yes I have to invest more in this great game.
Always wanted to try this game.
oops double post.
I’m always a fan of pirate themed games… or pirate themed anything really!
Yeah pirate games are cool.
Better than ninja games Lloydie?
Only because you get to do outrageous over the top impressions!
was very lucky to get a game or two of this in with the creators. The attention to detail in the rules and the historical accuracy to give a feeling of how the factions fought was great. Native Americans are excellent by the way, I loved them ^^
Blood and Plunder looks so much fun.
Very interesting period to game and campaign in. Anyone got a spare historical editor and spreadsheet?
Awesome game.. Awesome company. Tight seamless rule set that is a pleasure to play. Cant wait for more. I like plastics but am really happier with single cast models. Too many options hurts my head.. lol.
Really like the look of this game, played the old Legends of the High Seas a fair bit, fancy something new.
Perfect timing for this. My pledge rewards arrived recently. Already trying to figure out what my next additions should be.
Great to see BP back! Such a stunningly looking game.
This has been played in the local gaming club, but I have not tested it… would be fun to paint a force of these!
Arrrr?
Firelock is knocking it out of the park. I’ve been too busy with other games this past year, but I would like to play the Spanish or Amerindian factions.
Love seeing the blood and plunder stuff, but just can’t justify getting into a new game. There are far too many good options out there at present, just can do them all. Now if a free copy was winging its a fair chance i’d have a go at it.
A Freudian slip there: just CAN do them all! Go for it!!
Lets see more ships 🙂
Just got my Kickstarter pledge – really looking forward to getting into this game.
Missed the 1st kickstarter, and the 2nd… until they did late pledges, which had a big and generous window of over 1/2 a year. Worth the wait (and the weight)! Although I like the idea of smaller sets things coming every so often.
Looking forward to lots more b&p goodies over the week.
It’s a fun time to have multiple ships duking it out on the table. So glad I found it.
Only thing more impressive than that book is when you get one if their ships in your hands.
Nice, this is one of my very favorite games to play.
Really like the idea of critical mass funding of new products for Blood & Plunder!
Everything is better with pirates…
Would love to win this! Getting a two player starter would make getting others to play way easier. B&P should be available/sold/played at every FLGS!
I would just love grab a few montecristos direct from habanos
My pledge is on its way, finally got the tracking number. While I know that soon my hands willbe ffilled with sheer awesomeness, already I can’t wait to see these newly announced projects coming to life. My bank account has a new name: Firelock Games. And they know it. Yaaaargh, too many people on my gold chest and not enough rum!
just got my copy of the rulebook and expansion. this week is perfect timing.
I would love to get a shot at playing the French or the Dutch!
This is such a good expansion. So many armies it will take years to explore!
Demoed the game at Nova and immediately bought two starter sets + a few more units. This is probably the first historical game that’s really grabbed me on the basis of it’s mechanics! Really glad they were able to make it to Nova this year!
Best miniature game out there today, and I say that based on a few things: 1) It has a beautiful setting with lots of interesting terrain options. 2) The rules offer options for fully land-based games, naval combat (with gorgeous ships), and amphibious games! 3) The historical accuracy really adds to the theme, and the commander rules are really streamlined and make the combat even more exciting. Actually going to run a game on a real warship as part of a charity event in a couple weeks. Can’t wait to introduce it to more players!
Very cool adding the Dutch, the Native Americans, and the “minor” powers.
I know what you mean, more unusual factions can be a lot of fun. Having played the natives I can tell you there is nothing minor about their powers ?
Always happy to see Blood and Plunder!
This a great game that has got even better with this release. Time to start a proper campaign and claim the Caribbean for the Sun King
Pirates yarrr’r
have a great choice in figurines
Wow coming right off the Bootcamp to a new Blood and Plunder week, how lucky I am.
Arrr matey! This game is awesome.
Hm. This one would be nice to try.
If I ever have the money to get into this, I’d definitely be going Dutch Privateers.
Looks a lovely book, very well put together. And the 3D renders look full of character as well.
Plastics is a great idea. Please, please, please offer lots of spare guns etc. This should allow you to be wysiwyg where some units need to have two pistols, must have a musket, etc.
I added my name to the late pledge for the Kickstarter but I just couldn’t find the money to commit to anything.
I think I will invest in the new Beyond the Line book though.
Hmm my order just turned up and now i am being drawn to paint that instead of finishing the project im on! Damn you OTT!
Mmm been looking into picking up natives to start off. Game looks fun!
I’m excited to see B&P. When I was a kid, I used to play a game called Limeys & Slimeys at camp. I never was able to find it outside of this setting. This looks amazing!
Of course you could pull of the pirate look… if that floated your boat 🙂
Looks good. More factions — and figs — to buy!
I was really hoping to see a former slave faction.
Always fancied trying this game and i would like to know more about the multi player options
can’t wait for the smaller scale ship to ship game they are planning
The research and background that went into this game and expansion is really interesting stuff. Makes for an interesting take on this era that is different from past fiction and media. Expanding away from the Caribbean only adds to this. Enjoying this theme week.
Maybe for xmas, if I’m good…..
Awesome introduction video and new Expansion for Blood and Plunder! Can’t wait for the announced new plastic Kits soon! Any release window for them yet :)? I hope we will get to see more information about the campaign system too, during the week :)!
So tempted by this game, I still have a load of Foundry Prussian Frie Korps and seeing this now has rules for thrm even more tempted.
great prizes and a great looking game
AAARRRGGGHHH MATEY love the game!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Love the idea of the crowd funding especially for the additional sculpts… and the plastics look great… that’s such an awesome option for people to be able to build up a unique force, or fill in gaps in the range (because the list of possible units is QUITE extensive!!!)… Such good things going forward for a really solid game! Glad I picked this up!
The Benerson Little book, The Golden Age of Piracy, is a pretty great read… it’s a bit after most of what current Blood & Plunder is set in, but that expansion into the Golden Age of Piracy is literally the point of the book, lol
I picked the best time to get into this game.
Very nice
They really are gorgeous models. The rule set is solid, too. I just wish I could find more players in the area.
who doesn’t love pirates, this game looks great on the table! I would play the Dutch
Might just have to get me that shiny new book and add those native Americans’ love the hit and run options they give you.
My Dutch faction and goodies are in but the poor guys really need a fluyte to sail in… Maybe an early Christmas present! Great game.
Nice to see the additional factions in there 🙂
If had a faction it would have to be the old ‘Captain Blood’ led one with Errol Flynn in the said Captain spot.
These look great! I love the very realistic sculpting on the models.
These models are so beautiful!
Hope to find this at Crisis!
plastic fantastic you say?! An entire crew of one armed, hook handed pirates are ready to be made 😉
Yep I’m painting those sweet European minis.
My Spanish also just arrived!
Yes perfect timing just got my stuff
This will be an awesome week!
Thanks again Blood and Plunder (Firelock) and Beasts of War!
B&P is a really nice game, love the ships and the mechanics
Wonder what spain got in the expansion!
I mainly play English buccaneers but I’m looking to get into native carribeans and maybe the Spanish as well. I noticed the eyes in the intro moved and I wonder what the idea for that came from.
This looks like so much fun!
The expansion really adds A LOT new to the game. It is a wonderful system!
The modular plastic models are a nice addition. I might go that route and mix them up with my old GW Empire soldiers that are gathering dust in the basement. Should make for a fun (if slightly less historical) warband.
I missed out of this kickstarter and I’ve kicked myself ever since. I love the look of the game, the larger ships sailing around battling each other is such a pull for me. I like the fact there is so much sontinued support from this company, the new scnarios look awesome, especially the larger battle rules. Definitely something I must invest in!!
I’m having some severe problems trying to choose which of the new factions I should start with… or if I should expand one of the old ones instead…
I’m still thinking about what team I should get into.
I’m looking forward to seeing more pirate minis. Hopefully the new stuff will get more and more characterful.
I love this game. I need more and more videos.
Congratulations on getting the new expansion out. I love this theme and would love to try this game. It looks like a lot of fun.
Have they announced the winners yet? Not sure how that happens?
The addition of the Dutch and a campaign system, I think that will tempt me into Blood & Plunder finally. Nearly picked up French at Tabletop Gaming Live but then held back and completed my Frostgrave collection instead.
Looking forward to the new plastic multi part figures. The Kickstarters to broaden the figure rang will be great except for what it will do to my wallet!
Love the videos and excited for the new stuff coming
@oriskany here might be the game for a US bootcamp if it should be a single game bootcamp 😉
So who won the swag?
Trying to find that out too!? Not sure where or how this is announced? Nice to know who won
