**********Happy Weekend************
Who’s ready for the Star Wars Weekend in December?
I can’t wait, but I’m far from ready. So many things that I’d like to have ready. Tables to be planned out, terrain to build, and models to be finished painted.
Earlier this weekend there was talk on the Discord channel about ‘Black Friday Deals’ already showing up online. I have to report that I have already made three purchases tied to this shopping Holliday. There goes part of my cash stash!
With regard to one of the topics in today’s show…..I think it’s totally possible that GW made their announcement about ‘Old World’ coming back in an attempt to persuade some folks from not throwing in with Kings of War 3 Edition. Having seen the new book and hearing gamers reacting to it they are trying the old ploy of “Don’t look over there! We have everything right here. You don’t need to go anywhere else to spend your money!”
I’m so ready for that weekend… but I still am waiting for @warzan sending me the plane tickets… or the notification that the transporter is working 😉
Gerry likes nicknaming people? Then I challenge him to nickname everyone who comments on this vid and post said nickname as a reply to their comment.
?
Regarding Warren’s comment that GW should’ve kept WHFB ‘in a holding pattern’ while introducing AoS and letting AoS go off and do it’s own thing while WHFB chugs along in the background, something I’ve always maintained is that AoS would have had a far less controversial launch if it had come out as an additional system rather than as a replacement to WHFB; by nuking Fantasy it tainted the well so to speak, and the emotions it generated prevented many from giving AoS a fair chance. There were other issues at launch, but I think that was one of the bigger missteps.
On the subject of GW expanding into Historicals, aside from it being given to a big name within the studio as a pet project, I suppose it’d depend on how easy it’d be for them to reskin their existing rule sets and how much a print run would cost for books. I couldn’t see them branching out into minis for the reasons cited, but if there was a cheap way of skimming some money from the historics pool, they might just do that. It might only be selling a few books, but if the gain outweighed the loss they might think it’s worth it. Also might depend on how likely they think they can convince historics players to move over into sci-fi/fantasy gaming by using Warhammer Historical as a gateway; eg if they based the rules for a Renascence ruleset on WHFB then for any historics players who pick it up they can dangle ‘hey all you need is to buy a wizard and a box of demigryph riders and add them to your historic army and you get an Empire army, plus you already know most of the rules to play already’ in front of them to try and tempt them in before trying to sell them dwarfs, Elves, etc. Of course this probably won’t bring in many of those players and for those that do, selling just a couple of minis to each probably wouldn’t generate enough revenue to be worth it, so it’s likely they wouldn’t go down that route.
One thing I am curious about with this annocement about the Old World is is this something they’ve wanted to do for a long time but felt unable to do because they had to commit to seeing AoS through as trying to go back on it and reverse the decision to nuke the Old World would have been business suicide so early on? Now AoS has had chance to stand on its own merits and tempers have had time to cool down, do they feel it’s now safe to bring WHFB back without upsetting more people?
Don’t think printing books for other mini manifacturors will be a move they’d be willing to make. They seem to pretend other manufacturors don’t exist as much as possible and this would alert some costumers that they do.
They used to do exactly this. Warhammer Historical was a division of Games Workshop that produced just the rules and they were based on the same stat line of Weapon Skill, Ballistic Skill, Strength, Toughness, etc.
They had books for World War One, English Civil War and even a Napoleonic age of sail (Trafalgar).
But current GW would not go down this road again.
The personalities that are currently at GW don’t have the sway that the old ones did.
On the comment about the old ogres scrubbing up nicely; I think the same can be said of a lot of old sculpts. You look at old photos of them today and think ‘those are bad minis’ but it’s actually because the paint job wasn’t that great and the quality of the photography wasn’t stellar (remember these would have been photos taken on film not with high def digital cameras).
And then there’s always the scourge that was the goblin green base. ;p
@warzan – for ideas for the shroom forest, look up vids/images of the Glimwood Tangle from the new Pokemon games; it’d fit in with your fluorescent idea (in the games there’s this dark creepy forest with all these glowing giant shrooms and you can go up to the shrooms and tap them to get them to light up even more, and when you do there’s a chance a goblin/imp Pokemon will jump out and attack you).
Happy Sunday folks!!
You’ll have your bases in a few hours @warzan
Happy Sunday!
It’s my opinion that this “cold war” has always been there. I’ve spent fair;y significant time in all three of these camps (maybe some others as well), and while we’re all gamers, there tends to be a subtle undercurrent of “attitude” … or at least a in each about the others. Might add RPGs and video games to this, although I don’t know if they would count as “tabletop.” Not really a “bad” thing, just a reflection of the games / types of hobby that people in each camp tend to pick.
Whether it’s “heating up” or what effect it has on the market, I leave that to the experts. 😀
Also epic work as always in the Community Spotlight!
Meanwhile, Episode 02 of HK Ops is on! Fresh from their successful mission in Mexico, the newly-minted “X-Team 619” of Phalanx Multinational is being redeployed for a second modern military RPG mission in a decidedly different environment!
We’re live later today (7PM UK, 2PM EastUS) with members of our community, including @templar007 , @rasmus , @gladesrunner , and Brun!
HK Ops is a new modern military RPG being developed specifically by the Sitrep Podcast for web play by members of the community. We hope you’ll swing by the Sitrep Podcast Channel and at see how we’re doing!

If you want to see a whole bunch of different types of Mushrooms we on Discord are more than happy to help 🙂
Division Warren 50th Division. I wouldn’t seal them into the boats but maybe stick them on clear bases so they work everywhere? Then again I’m a huge fan of multi use minis.
That pic was actually of the 50th Division just the Commando’s attached to them so yes and no that’s both 50th Division and not 50th Division. Schrodinger’s Division?
If we want to get very technical the Japanese shot first back in 37 with the USS Panay incident but it didn’t start anything.
Same as WW1 where the first shots fired by British Empire troops was in Melbourne
Yep it was some Aussies at a Port firing at a German Cargo Ship.
Maybe GW will just bring 9th age under its umbrella. Be cheap and easy for them I think
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday folks, have great one..
Only watched the first hour so far but I will say to anyone, give Kings of War a go. The rules will be free sometime in the new year, you’ll be able to use “Easy Army” in the new year to build forces. You don’t even need models if you want to try out the game mechanics, just cut the unit footprints out of paper and card and give it a go.
Simple rules but hard to master. If you want to just charge forward and roll loads of dice, it is the game for you. If you want to be more tactical, it is a game of maneuver. There are synergies to explore as well, certain units have auras that can buff units, wizards can buff and heal (but will never dominate). Lots of flavour in the special rules – Undead can heal by causing damage, Dwarfs are headstrong, Elves are elite. Loads of fun if you want it as well – Dwarfs love throwing doggos, Gobbos and their Mawbeast launchers.
Even better you don’t have to wait three years for something that may well be a big pile of steaming dog poo!
I think @warzan might be right when he says GW hinted the Battlefleet Gothic was coming back and then it just disappeared into the ether, or maybe it’s a Mandela effect memroy.
Playing on a chess clock: The concept of not activating every unit/model was the biggest thing that challenged my thinking when learning infinity. The concept of focusing your activity during a turn on those models and orders that will have an effect rather than everything goes at least once would probably be good practice for the time pressure play style that comes from a chess clock.
@warzan KoW rounds: Honestly Warren I wouldn’t worry about model density. Just create rectangular SABOT bases of the right dimension. If you only get 6 dwarves in a regiment just fluff it by saying they are super elite killer dwarves.
Happy Sunday.
5 minutes 25 seconds in and I am howling at Ryan’s editing again. It was the 29 and a half that got me
Happy Sunday… Not watched everything yet… It certainly was a father Ted house I am sure we are going to use it again in the future for other RPGs… @warzan certainly I think getting 13 people in into the house is stretching things a bit … It would mean everyone sharing the double beds as well…? I am sure I was drinking vodka all night not just coke ?? glad you had a blast.
Right on with watching the rest of the show.
So @dignity is not there and @warzan takes of his Fez? Coincidence? XD
The Last Starfighter 2? I NEED SOURCES!!! NOW!! @lloyd

thanks lloyd 😉
Really enjoyed that show. Thank you, Gerry, Lloyd, Warren and Ryan! That drawing of the house by Ryan aged 29.5 is going up on my fridge lol
A priceless piece of art…
The Americans shot first now? Can George Lucas please leave well enough alone?
George isn’t involved anymore, don’t know what fuckwit at Disney felt the urge to do that
From the sources I follow on film and Star Wars it was George that played with them last, before the sale took place.
George was going to re-release all 6 films in 3D, I think one or two may have come out, so he was tinkering again….
Disney haven’t played with them as far as those pundits were concerned and they suppose that there is a clause in the sale contract that hey can only show the films in the state George sold them in…. So they can go back to the original versions of the first trilogy (ie Eps 4-6).
Mclunky.
Oops, that should have been:
So they can’t go back to the original versions of the first trilogy (ie Eps 4-6).
On pervitin I quote the German wiki: it was knows as „Panzerschokolade“, „Stuka-Tabletten“, „Hermann-Göring-Pillen“ And „Fliegermarzipan“ (tank chocolate, Stuka pills, Herman Göring pills and Airmen marzipan) That’s one for @warzan 😉
I fuckin’ love marzipan
Like all good and honest people do. Marzipan is the best!
Happy Cult. I am surprised that nobody has built bases for Kings of War with a clear top box, either of acetate, polystyrene or acrylic. This could introduce box dioramas with counter or wheels on top for moral. Very handy for transportation.
Happy Sunday Everyone!!!
I’m off to our last session of Dragon Heist! Were finishing the campaign today and then hopefully I’ll be able to watch later tonight in and around all the requirements of the evening. 🙂
Lloyd has fun with flags and now Warzan has fun with fungus. Lol
I’ve now got a vision of @lloyd presenting the show “Fun With Flags” with Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory”.
Lol
Listening to this painting GW goblins to use in KoW 3rd edition. The printable scenery shrooms would be great for Kings of War, getting a Goblin themed table is now added to my to do list. Why is Warren not wearing his hat? Has he forced everybody else to wear them then decided against it for himself 😮
Great work on your projects guy’s that was a fab show.
Happy Sunday, and thanks for the show.
Hmm liked this non Justin one aswell. Of course well miss him for now. ;p
@warzan I don’t think GW will bring back Fantasy Mass Battles, as I suspect it may have caused detrimental affect on Sigmar sales. What I can see is GW releasing self contained games set in the Old World, such as Mordhiem for instance.
When I discuss this with friends who are convinced Fantasy Battles is coming bavk, they go square bases. My answer to that is GW don’t need to release mass battles to bring back square bases, they could produce those separately and sell them to you without the Old World release, likewise old armies. They don’t need to bring the old world back to sell them.
This is a stab at Mantic and an attempt not to loose more players across to KoW. GW never release info about a project this far in advance and I don’t see them risking the Sigmar project with a rehash of fantasy battles. I can see them of creating a brand in which they can go back to old games such as Mordhiem as well as release new games, but fantasy battles is unlikely in my opinion.
What this has done is gotten folk talking more about a non existent game that GW may make rather than about the Mantic game that’s just had a big new release.
YOU DRANK ALL ME BEER @warzan 😉 ;), YA GIT!!!!
Disney+ is in Europe have been watching it since September. We got it before the Americans
I detect the Mandela Effect lol.
Here’s the UK and other countries release date:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50344494
Where are you from @sunabe ?
Oh maybe “soft-launched in the Netherlands”
If not then I guess you are from the future!
Maclunkey!
Yes I’m from the Netherlands and had the opportunity to test Disney+ for 2 months before release in the states. One of the few things we are first with
I’ve never dabbled into Kings of War, that will have to change.
@avernos good job on those Americans!
What did the Stuarts do if they weren’t spotting for artillery?
cheers,
4th ed has removed the recon rule, so now I use the Stuarts to harsh flanks and infantry guns. Lots of machine gun dice and a ridiculous speed means they can still harry.
There may be tactics cards that allow them to spot in future
@warzan if you are going to keep the British infantry on bases but intend tobe able to use them in a vignette too, then perhaps consider using a dark, neutral colour for the base such as a deep brown rather than gunmetal.
They won’t blend in quite as well with the landing craft decking, but they won’t look so out of place if you use them on the beach. Silver / metal bases will look really odd virtually anywhere but in the landing craft.
