As for myself, I’ve been working on making a 1/50 scale 737-200 fuselage so I can use my Spectre Ops miniatures in, (as they are 28mm but their vehicles are all in 1/50 scale), as I have a go at running a scenario inspired by the game @elessar2590 wrote up and shared with us not long ago https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1411398/
I used to make a lot of RC Aircraft with the epoxy over foam method I’ll be using that for this project.
I’m all for the black Fez, (also known as a Tarboosh).
We have one of the best hatter’s in America based about 75 miles from my location. I’ll see what he charges for a quality Fez made from scratch.
He’ll be asking these questions……
1) How tall is correct for a CoG hat
2) Material….Felt of Beaver or Felt of Wool) Tassel or No Tassel

The title question is based on the premise that extra-terrestrials aren’t already among us subtly influencing our perception of them through their control of media output and political office.
Anyone who’s seen Men in Black must be able to recognise that Donald Trump and Boris Johnson are clearly a couple of shape-shifters struggling to maintain their form.
Question is… which of the OTT team are aliens infiltrating your organisation to produce output that already influences the way we see aliens in a different, more favourable light? Or is there more than one?

If there would be a disclosure of the existing of aliens couldn’t it be that there will be changes in how sci-fi games will be made or changed due to the way we few those aliens?
Because they might take offence in how we portray them which could lead to conflicts that the world powers would like to avoid.
I agree that if certain information would be disclosed (like mass killings) it might effect me playing the game.
But then it will depend on several factors, like when, the reason why, … .
Like if they killed a lot of people in the 1600 but then a peace was made and they haven’t killed since, I would still play the game just like I play flames of war.
The point of using UAP is that this refers explicitly to alien phenomena rather than the broader term UFO which includes items which could have originated from earth (clouds, frisbees, bin lids).
Many thanks for the praise and golden button! A bit more motivation to keep me going. I will say, actually having started the project and having vowed to do a little every day has kept the progress ticking along nicely. The project system is a great resource and there are a lot of amazing projects in it.
More than happy to paint up an army for the studio (I might regret saying that but the golden button has given me a hobby boner), you just might have to wait a while as I have a lot of tiny Germans to paint… I am very behind on my FoW Slow Grow League stuff… and have a 10mm fantasy project I want to get back too! Plus KoW 3rd edition is creating an itch to get back to my Undead and Dwarfs!

Very nice Nurgle minis. I personally LOVE Bright Nurgle Minis. Nurgle is all about happiness and Love and being one of the gang that’s why all my Nurgle stuff is painted in a very Bright Cartoonish style.
Would it make Sci fi the new “moderns” in that people would find it too realistic/close to what’s going on…

So if sci-i has some scope of being what we imagined or even more out there towards the Outer Limits (old tv show plug) then there will be a new annexe of sci-fi to be added. Imagine what would be sci-fi to aliens that are well beyond what we are capable of having been influenced by their history and experiences.
If I have paid for models and sci-fi became reality then surely sci-fi just becomes modern or pulp or is still sci-fi and as we like playing games I think we would still play.
I have over 60 hats and my fez is one of the worse. Those damn tassels always fall off after a spin
@avernos have you seen the little wars tv Iraq game (I have no idea how to spell it) it was all played by vets including a chap who was there, very interesting chat about it as well.

A point on our great and masterful alien overlords. Maybe they are not our enemies. We could play games WITH them! What sort of interactions would that create? Playing 40k, Core Space, FFG Star Wars games. What would they think of space conflict games? Or maybe David Icke playing Snakes and Ladders with the reptilian ones.
Great show as always. Really pleased that Golden Buttons are featuring more prominently. This is a big motivational factor and prompts me to paint and yearn for the time to be able to put proper projects together on the site.
As to the XP that are awarded whatever number we choose surely this should be the secret magic number of the Cult of Games. I’m obviously not a high enough level of initiate to know what it is yet but I dream of the day I will win my own Golden Button and finally have this inner mystery revealed.
@warzan Just to clarify what @dignity said regarding the RPG group, is not quite correct… Only two characters died, it hit the group hard but it was not a TPK. The main reason that the group has been quiet is due to people being on holidays …lol

So lets say aliens come out of the space closet and become a part of our society, weather they’ve been probing us or not. Weather our scifi races resemble them or not, I wonder if they would start to be seen as racist/offensive by us or them, or if they would be viewed the same way we see elves and dwarves? Would Mars Attacks or 50s B movies be taken like blackface? What if aliens won’t talk to us because of all the alienface in our media?

The existence of beings other than ourselves actually living in the universe would cause a lot of changes not just in gaming. It would cause word wide panic, the meaning of many religions would change which will cause more panic and the fact that they can show themselves and could be more powerful than us would bring even more panic. Just their existence would rattle a large portion of society. Whatever the first encounter will be, friend or foe, would have huge ramifications. Gaming is just a reflection of what we know or believe or imagine. Once that changes, so do other things.
I am in my 50s. The average life expectancy for the US State I live in is 80, in the relative short time I may have, I am not worried and I will keep playing the aliens as the invaders and bad guys until otherwise shown differently.
The Sherman tank was an ok tank for the war but it was still a piece of junk. However, there were so many of them and so easy to make so that outweighed its failings.

I feel like I might chip in on the Alien scenario, I think there would be a difference between the Aliens and the SS for example.
Speaking personally I feel a bit odd playing Nazis, I thought it was because of, you know the genocide, but I just got SPQR. During Caesar’s invasion of Gaul several Romans claimed that he was basically committing genocide so surely playing ancient Romans is the same thing? I think the difference is about distance from it certainly but there’s another aspect I think plays into it.
To me something that makes me squeamish is that there are still literal Nazis walking around. Some people would look at that army and would celebrate if that army was real and marching in the streets. The symbol of the Nazis is still provocative and people still cling to it to spread hate and violence. Some people want to bring back concentration camps or deport everyone they don’t think matches their idea of their nation. For some people this battle would be fantasy fulfilment not just an interesting strategic exercise.
I don’t think even if Aliens were real and committing atrocities it could be quite the same or have quite the same effect. The horror about the Nazis is that they were real, modern, educated people. Their crimes happened once and could happen again.

I don’t think any event in history or current events would put me off gaming in that setting. I don’t think there’s anything that I find that upsetting. I find that many people that won’t play with Nazis but for some reason will play Space Marines in 40K (basically Space Nazis that will happily enslave everyone they don’t kill, are literally ‘super-humans’, and will happily participate in genocide of other races).
@warzan , I have often wondered if you knew that Clockwork Goblin originally did Konflict ’47 in 15mm? It would have been FoW scale and your Nachtwolves and their flying-saucers would have fit in perfectly.
Just wondering if you guys would discuss the proliferation of skirmish games that are in the market place. They are so numerour that GW now has several of them in each of their settings. I paint quickly but I can’t keep up even when I’m just painting gangs. The only thing that has helped has been the miniature agnostic systems have allowed me to produce one gang for several systems (eg Saga Age of Magic, Warlords of Erehwon, Age of Sigmar and Warcry). Just to give you an idea, there are 6 Warcry gangs, a dozen Kill Teams, 7 Necromunda gangs, 18 Shade Spire Warbands and always more coming out, and that’s just GW.
As to when the Aliens show up and gaming / fiction I think that John Ringo did a good job of discussing this at the beginning of his Troy Rising Trilogy. The protagonist was a scifi writer and went from comfortably secure to chopping wood and working odd jobs to get by because the industry basically died. There were still diehards that would pay to go to a con but it was small and rare. Basically people saw that the arrival of ETs changed the basic economy and brought strife. If a group of beings come down from the stars we here on Earth will be very far behind in technology and need to catch up as quickly as possible. Humans can adapt and this would save the human race.

The nearest equivalent I can think of where reality catches up with fiction are sci fi stories.
Jules Verne predicted nuclear submarines in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Other writers anticipated future events like the moon landings and the invention of smart phones.
People didn’t stop reading sci fi stories because some things came true. I suspect it would be the same with wargaming.
