Great show, I’m guessing ‘London is full’ because the London marathon is on the day after salute.
It would be interesting if you did a complete ‘non GW’ 40k army, (I am in the same boat as you, no longer like the company, still like the game) That way you could show all the different companies that do generic sci fi, heck even if you are just doing imperial guard you could use troops from prince augusts old warzone plastics (80 plastics for 25 quid), mantic, puppets war, pig iron miniatures, defiance (actually might want to give them a miss based on their track record) hasslefree, heresy, copplestone castings, em4, wargames factory, or even use warlord ww2 minis and buy some fricken lasers.
If you did that I would be a very happy panda
Looking forward to the 40k content, I don’t agree with the company’s philosophy but I do love the IP and most of the minis (except that fookin Lord of Skulls thing).
Great show as always and yeh accommodation at salute is a pain, why oh why do they time it to match the marathon every year?
Yeah lord of Skulls was unfortunate – I wonder if there is a suitable alternative out there? mmmmm
I’ve seen some interesting conversions on that, inlcuding using the torso on some defiler legs but the basic model out of the box made me shudder.
Anything buy Tonka toys would be an alternative…
Hey Warren, you might want to try out the FW Siege of Vraks. Great narrative, a gazillion trillion ways to create suitable traitors etc.
I used FW mini’s and regular Cadians with MaxMini torso’s and stuff.
I will definitely check that out, any picks of your stuff anywhere?
Lol I’m playing WoW while listening to this… Been playing since the beta too. Might have to try world of tanks 🙂
Good luck with the coverage, I did love 40k at one time and think newcomers will find it usefull, however, I think there are better games to get newcomers into the hobby of wargamming. I have been looking at trying to utilise Bolt Action activation rules with 40k troops, think it would make a better game.
Hey
Another great show.
Make the Titan walk through a large Building. (about half the size of the Titan) That way you can support the legs to the Falling pieces which are connected to the base.
You simply need a caravan for¨Salute (Snatch)
Happy Sunday
That building Idea is genius! Need to see if I can make that work!
I keep the ads on, I can’t imagine the site without them. A PM has been sent re: accommodation, Warren.
You might have problem using non-Citadel minis in the store. We had issues with using a non-Citadel Blood Bowl team that GW had rules for but no minis. I know someone who got stopped from playing the 2009 Space Hulk in Warhammer World because it wasn’t a product you could buy anymore. Your bigger problem might be that a lot of stores have kicked the gamers out and leave the table space open for new customers only. New customers who are buying stuff, to be precise. All of that said, I’m guessing a lot depends on the discretion of the individual store.
Great show as always.
With the polystyrene, try gorilla glue. Make sure its the non-expanding. That stuff lasts forever, takes a bit to dry, but almost never comes apart. The expanding stuff would be good if you have a lot of gap now in the dowel holes, but the overflow clean up might get kind of hard as it will dry almost like an epoxy.
With the 40k, would be interested to see what you do with it. Always loved the ip, probably always will. I still have a lot of minis to paint up that have just been sitting around, waiting for a bit of motivation to go back to 40k.
Any idea on a UK retail release date for Myth?
No date confirmed yet, but we are waiting eagerly to find out!
Aye same here, even my missus loves the look of this.
Hi guys, World of Tanks is awesome. Have been playing since the release a couple of years ago. I play on the US and SEA server. My son now plays on the Xbox Version, I’m staying with the PC, as I have already completed the German tree and large chunks of the Soviet, USA and French. I was also part of the Alpha and Beta testing of World of Planes, that is another cool game. Nice and quick with 15 min rounds. Looking forward to World of Ships.

Some images of my Bolt Action stuff and since we’re tank mad, my own big beauty that will be crushing everything it can.
BoW Ben
Polystyrene glue is the way to go. You can get the stuff you use to glue coving to the ceiling. It should cure really strong.

Nice vid again guys, thanks.
For the 40K series, I would suggest the first bit would be best done combined with the kill team rules, it is -by far- the best way to start 40K (given you can do so with few models), of course, with most companies these would be the free ‘quickstart’ rules but here you need to buy the main rulebook and the dataslate on top, but nevertheless they are well done.
For the titan, the only tip i can give right now is for adhesive. Look for radio control model shops , they sell specialised stuff for polystyrene (its used extensively on glider wings), the brand I know best is ZAP, they have some specific adhesives to use.
What you do then would probably depend on how strongly that adhesive works, but that would be the starting point is it were my project.
What I would do with the Titan (as well as pinning it) is build and add extra details and paneling around the broken or weaker areas like the leg joints.
You could use parts from other models or scratch build some yourself from plastic card,
things like extra armor panels to reinforce damage pieces like the foot, and details like pistons and struts behind the knees.
Also when finalizing the pose I would go for a slightly wider leg stance, with one foot in front of the other so it looks like its walking forward, this should help distribute the torso weight more evenly over the legs.
posted a Topic in 40k General to help @warzan‘s cause 🙂
My name is Ollie and I am a X360 World of Tanks addict……
Sounds like my story is very similar to you guys! As a former WoW-addict (5yrs) I gave up to spend more time back on the tabletop, and avoided World of Tanks/Planes/insert whatever name here. Then it appeared on my Xbox last week and been hooked ever since – good thing is my Xbox is at my desk used for painting so between deaths have been painting minis 🙂
Ref lack of hotels in London – Saturday 12th is Salute, Sunday 13th is the London Marathon.
Still waiting for them to make a FireFly for WoT (the Easy Eight Sherman is a good sub for it though), But the tank models are amazing looking… we should form a clan 😉
I agree a clan is a great idea. Played this on PC and have just put it on the 360 after this video, didn’t know it was out. Going to do the british tree I think.
I agree great idea to do a Bow clan, I’m in. Did play this game on the PC and didn’t know it was on the 360, so I have downloaded it today. Think I will keep to the british tree in keeping with my BA army.
A BoW clan would be a great idea. But we will need one for PC and one for X-box.
Just because you talked about world of tanks. I did throw this replay together last night 🙂

Nice work. it’s a great earner the KV-1s.
It seem like it is the boozer train home on Friday and back Saturday morning for me then …. ohhh well ….
The other option for the titan that would be much more involved would be to purchase material to make an armature inside the body like they do when sculpting miniatures. Thin coper tubing for plumbing comes to mind. That would solve your gaming problem, as the armature, secured to your base, not the legs, would support the weight of the torso.
You can get plumbing tubing in rather small diameters.
For the 40k show maybe comsider he simplicity angle- with different vstegories of simplicity e.g. which armies are simpler to put together, simpler to paint, simpler simpler to play with (less complex tactics/rules) as a starting force etc so it makes it easier for a beginner to get into. Just a thought.
Finally, 40k content! Can’t wait. Third party miniatures is always a good idea, particularly if you just game at home/clubs. Still pretty certain that GW run tournaments are quite strict about using their products though, so you want to watch it if you decide you wanted to enter a tourney at a later date. @dignity start an imperial knight army like I’m planning to, only need three to six models, practically a skirmish army 😉 @warzan have you ever seen brazing/welding rods? Come in brass/steel, they are thin, really strong and they come in long lengths, so considering your titan is so soft internally, you can use these long rods to skewer the basic structure of the titan, would never move. Also, how many of you are going to need accommodation? I got plenty of floor space if you have sleeping bags 🙂
Hi Warren, I think you definitely need a stable base to have a movable gaming …err… miniature 😉 As I build one from scratch I had the issue to make it stable enough not to flip over and destroy everything on the table, including itself. You can see pictures of what I did over here (http://dievincis.blogspot.de/2013/06/warlord-titan-part-7.html) in our hobby blog. One thing to keep in mid is transportability. So my warlord can be disassembled into legs, torso and of course the main weapons. If you need more information on how I solved some of the stability problems, feel free to send me a pm or e-mail, or comment on our blog 🙂
I don’t know if you’ve seen TemplarsCrusade01 aka Brian new campaign hes doing a chaos warband to start then building up his forces through game play, maybe could do the same or something similar but through your show and with your diet Warren drink lots of water for every cup of coffee you drink dehydrates you 2 cups of water
Titan- Fill in old holes with milliput. I would look into getting some metal l-brackets for the knee joints and slotting them in down the length if each limb. I might even pin through the side if the limbs into the screw holes if the l-brackets. Then expound at the actual joints. Epoxy is the best… I don’t use superglue any more.
Damn you iOS. Stop trying to correct me! “Expound” was supposed to be “epoxy”.
Hi Warren. You’re looking for a glue to use that will work on Polystyrene, try this:
http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/decorating-supplies/glue-tape-adhesives-sealants/adhesives/-specificproducttype-specialist_adhesives/Evo-Stik-Epoxy-Express-Syringe-25ml-12599153?skuId=13119859
I use this on resin miniatures in conjunction with pinning. I have tested epoxy Glue on polystyrene and it works fine because it doesn’t contain a solvent
Great show as always guys.
I think the beginners guide to 40k but with non-GW models sounds like a win-win all round (well almost non-GW as I agree with Lloyd that some models might be hard to proxy from other ranges). People here seem to love the game so you’d be covering that (great) and as you report on all the GW models anyway as they come out by exploring alternatives you’d be giving people great info about 40k whilst presenting them with choice and variety that benefits other smaller companies (double great). For example; “Here’s this great universe and a game set within it and these are the models that GW have for it, this is how they play in the game and here are some models you could use instead, oh and by the way some cost more than GWs and some cost less, it’s your hobby so pick whatever you like and play “. You’re not saying one is better than the other but you are providing content both for GW fans new and old and for people who might like the game but not want to buy GW models or for people who want to get into it but are put off by prices of official minis, or even for people who don’t like 40k and GW at all but like seeing cool sci-fi minis. Who could complain about that?
My initial thoughts on repairing the Titan would be as others suggest, using a dowel to reinforce the limbs. I would use wooden dowels; easy to cut to the correct length and can be a good base for pinning at the ends. My only doubts are, how does the high density foam take to drilling? I have some in my garage so I’ll give it a shot tonight. Linty length dril bits are inexpensive, so could be the way to go.
Looking forward to 40k content. Getting into it after a 20-odd year hiatus on gaming and just joined backstage, so timing for series is excellent. Was a big GW fan 20 years ago, but never played 40k at the time; more into their minis and specialist games. Now I have a bit more disposable income (which is just as well) so thought I’d give it a try. Although the price rises were a bit shocking when I looked, I have to say their plastic minis have come on leaps and bounds over the years and quality is now awesome IMHO. It will take me some time to get my army up and running, so also looking at Kill Team as a way to get playing quicker. Very interested for some Kill Team coverage along the way if you can. Great site by the way. Keep up the good work.
I’m interested in Kill Team too! So will definitely be looking at that!
Welcome aboard, and thanks for your support via backstage!
Awesome. Look forward to Kill Team. Maybe Justin can be tempted to help out with that part of the series. As someone adamant who doesn’t want to get back into 40k, but a self-confessed skirmisher, would be great to have both the point of view of Kill Team as an entry into 40k and also as a skirmish game in its own right.
Good idea for Salute. We could play hide the trophy. I still have the pics from last year.
Your welcome to bring your titan down to the Huddersfield Games Apocalypse Tourneys.
As for the repair job, I have used this material a lot. PVA is the adhesive of choice. Its stronger than the material and will not degrade it. I would use wooden dowel to support the joints. Guessing the joings will be really loose now, where the origonal dowels have wiggled and spread the holes. Use gravity, fill the current holes with PVA and push in the dowel only. Once thats set 24 hours minimum, turn it upsie down and do the same for the other component.
If the blue foam has cracked and you have lost strength, PVA a piece of plastic card onto the surface. This can be ebelished later and painted over. It will hold the material together, and really needs doing before you dowel it back together.
For a model this size I would recomend a base. Not a large circular affair, but one which is like a bog bone. This will add rigidity between the legs and help support the over all structure.
Where you have small dings and chips, battle damage is the way to go.
Owen
Kill Team is geat. I use Genestealers and they are a proper laugh. Good fun and short games.
Great show as usual guys!
I love the idea of a beginners guide to 40K, with alternatives and conversions.
I dropped out of 40K about 5-6 years ago and although I purchased the last mega volume rule book I didn’t find anything to really inspire me back into the game again. I have a huge Nid and Imp army forlornly sitting in a cabinet that i would love to get out and play with but feel more inclined to find a different gaming system that I could use them in…. Maybe you are the inspiration I need? My biggest joy with 40K was making scratch-built or conversions for models that GW hadn’t released with their codexes so I will be fascinated to see what you come up with.
As for your Titan, the blue Styrofoam drills well but does not particularly like un-pointed stuff pushed into it. I tend to use cocktail sticks and wooden skewers to hold pieces together, usually with a good PVA or woodglue, but I have also used sections of coat-hangers quite effectively. A base is a great idea but limits how you can place it so maybe a base for each foot would give it stability but with more flexibility? Cracks and damage is always part of the course and turning them into battle damage adds character to the model. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing how you get on.
I downloaded World of Tanks after watching this and omg, you guys have earned my subscription for at least another 6 months based on that.
Not got a Xbox, but play world of tanks on the PC, cool game. If Lloyd likes the Pz IIG he will love the Pz 1C (has Xbox got it?) a real Benny Hill tank it just don’t stop :). Like Dave said no Sherman Firefly at the moment, hope one day it will come along, Cromwell is barking and the Comet and Centurions are great to play.
Cool to see there is going to be some Bolt Action action, got a NW Europe British army built, but am interested in seeing, building and playing a Chindit’s (or 14th Army) vs Japanese Army.
“This is starting to sound mildly Arnold Rimmerish” – ha! Brilliant!
(Now getting very keen for Myth to arrive.)
Warren, there is Foam Safe CA glue ( Foam Safe Super Glue), to fix your titan. I have been using it for many years to fix my Remote Control Aircraft as many of the Electric ones are now made from Foam. Takes a little longer to dry but gives a very strong join. Use Brass rod to strengthen to models, I found using the Brass tube very good as being hollow it is lighter and bigger for larger pieces and has structural integrity to withstand a little weight without bending. ( have used it under my OO railway bridge spans to stop sag.)
Can BoW please follow up on the 4ground great Hall from last year. Saw some really good pic’s on the gripping beast site but have found no where I can buy one. It is the best piece of large scenery I have seen for a while, so would really like to get one. I did e-mail 4ground several times but have never received a reply to this question. Can someone fill me in?
Maybe ask Gripping Beast the question or go through War and peace games who are their stockists in Oz.
The supplement for the Great Hall isn’t out yet I’m hoping for a release to coincide with Salute which will be April so maybe after that it may be good to have a look at the hall
I would be keen to see the 40k mini alternatives. Like many people, love the IP hate the company. I can afford the mini’s but refuse to pay it. My Space Wolves have been in a box for over 5 years now. Would love a reason to pull them out again.
Kill Team would be awesome.
As the BoW community we should try to run a global Kill Team campaign. That would get a lot of people who are interested in trying it out or “following along with Warren” to give it a try without the necessary huge expense of a full army.
A World of Tanks BoW Clan would be awesome. Sign me up.
For chaos IG, check out Victoria miniatures.
They have some awesome “IG compatible” resin and metal parts so you can field mordians, aussie catachans (LOL), and a bunch of other cool stuff. Also have beastmen-guard for chaos!
For the 40K stuff I think you should definitely include a lot of the old school fluff. That’s the good stuff, and it reminds the old boys what originally made them fall on love with the universe.
Get 6mm or 8mm threaded rod (from hardware store, it’s like a superlong bolt without the bolthead). Or equivalent imperial units, 47/1023 of inch or whatever it is.
Drill all the way though the legs and insert suitably long piece of rod. Anchor at footsoles with large body washer and nut (glue it in or nylock). I would probably do the same on the body and then cover the exposed nut with a small turret or something.
I hope the idea comes across… think Vlad the Impaler with a nut on both ends.
You will need a hacksaw or angle grinder to cut the rod, or a cutting disc for the dremel at the very least..
Recommend turning the Titan into terrain. Use a torch on the pieces and it would become a “destroyed” titan terrain feature. You could also do a 40k series on “building an army on a budget” for beginners kinda thing. Cheers!
40k Kill teams is a nice skirmish game in the universe
I know you don’t want to fixate on prices and that’s fair enough. But, if you’re going to be doing a series which might encourage others to do the same then I think it’s only fair to mention that a decent size 40k army is going to run you £2-300 if you buy new. At least then someone can decide if they can follow along or try to find bargains on e-bay etc.
Or they might just say ‘sod that, I can’t afford it’ and go for a bolt action 1k starter army for £80+£20-30 for paints.
I don’t mind your 40K start again idea. I’ve never played 40K and as a 52 year old that left the UK in 1985 I kind of missed all of that GW miniatures stuff. So it would be interesting to know some more – it is a game after all. I don’t have any intention of playing 40K but watching other people play can also be entertaining.
Good luck with that Titan!…
Painting ER – definitely my choice for a new show.
And as for a return to 40k, Warren…that new Imperial Knight is pretty damn tempting. I feel the lure myself…it’s all very Luke and the Emperor at the end of Return of the Jedi, come to think of it.
I’m tempted to join Warren in the 40K army building exploration. I still have half an army of Orcs (notice the spelling) lying about who are destined to get in an accident with a Shokk Attack Gun. I have plenty of heads, bodies and guns. And for the bigger pieces I intend to paper/cardboard craft them. I already reverse engineered a Rhino this way, so I’m confident Ork vehicles will be easy and a lot of fun to create.
I also would be in for a Beast of War CLAN on the PC – World of Tanks, US Server
@warzan I used to work a lot with blue foam I used to produce a range of radio control planes we used to use epoxy glues and Pva there’s also a range of glues called aliphatic which would work. These models strength was in the covering we used and believe it or not it war brown paper I would repair the affected areas and bind them with Pva and paper it might mean a bit of deconstruction but will be a lot better in the long run I would also start from the base with metal rods screwed to it ( I have a lathe if you need parts making) you could also magnetise parts on as this would reduce vonrable (sp:-( ) parts being broken of in transit. If you need any help let me know as I’m always happy to help.
Regarding Titan repairs PVA and wood pins with dowel or cocktail sticks works well with polystyrene. You can also use Polystyrene filler which you can get from model railway suppliers.
