I’d love to see Epic return, as it’s still to this day my main goto game (Epic Armageddon is still the best, or one of the best, combined arms system that I played), but not in the 8mm scale they seem to be doing it in right now. I don’t buy the argument that is the scale that allows different marks of SM armour to be distinguishable, because I do have 6mm forumware marines and Mk III and IV armour are perfectly recognizable.
I don’t doubt that they’d do it in the new scale (which is about 8mm) – they seem to be “debiggerizing” Forgeworld’s models to 1/4 of their original size, whereas in old Epic and Aeronautica it was to 1/5 of bigger model’s size. However, that would instantly invalidate existing scales, which would put off many of the current players (and there is a vibrant community around the world that still plays all the more recent incarnations of the game) – note that it doesn’t really invalidate the compatibility between the old epic models and the new titans (these look more the part, nowadays), but all the rest?…
If they actually come up with the game, there’s another issue: they would probably go heresy to be able to produce less models whilst covering a large setting and without really competing with the 40k range (which has a scale that really is unsuited for much more than relatively small platoon to demi-company level engagements, no matter how many thousand points of orks I keep collecting)
That said, I really will use the new Titans and Aircraft with my 200k plus points of Epic models, but would probably not dive into a scale that isn’t the traditional Epic Scale.
