‘Reluctant’ is a bit harsh… But like 51st Highland, by late 44, 7th Armoured were kind of thinking it was someone else’s turn to do the hard fighting. IIRC, (51st certainly), elements of both had been at the sharp end since 1939. No-one wanted to be the last casualty of the war. Monty placed such reliance on both divisions that they were pretty fed up. So they were highly skilled and experienced, but not enthusiastic.
