I’m retired , so most of my day is watching videos and sitting at the hobby bench . 95% of what I build / paint is WW2 related , 28mm troops and vehicles . In the past month I’ve got about 20 tank kits , a box of plastic troops and a dozen or so metal ones . I tend to build tanks to replicate / match photos or diagrams in books . I’m a model builder as opposed to a war gamer . Since I have multiples of most tanks I can build a tank in numerous ways , example Panzer IV full side skirts , missing side skirts but with side rails , battle damaged and knocked out , all hatches open with a full crew , covered in tank rider infantry , ambush camo pattern Normandy , winter white wash Eastern front .
I usually have an idea of which vehicle I want to build and just need the right picture to get the creative juices flowing . That being said , I can get sidetracked by one vehicle while I’m looking for pictures of another . Having a stack of kits I find I never get bored with the hobby , if I loose interest in a kit I just put all related pieces in a plastic bin and build something else . I might come back to it in a weeks time or maybe like those 2 Italeri M13/40s it might be almost a year , but I did get my interest back and finish them .
This week I built 2 Panzer IVs , one with some tank riders to match one I finished last year , built a Tiger 1 in winter whitewash , finding use for a couple of the new resin / plastic Warlord German winter tank crew figures . I’m now working on a Hetzer as well as kit bashing crew figures for a couple of Stugs . Never a dull moment .
