I really need to organise my hobby collection first. Any and all ideas are welcome … I think my first goal shall be to get a better understanding of what exactly is in my pile of opportunity

@limburger Yes – absolutely do that.  That has been my first step in advance of the move I’m hoping to make if/when the house sells.  Having done that I then did a bit of a Marie Kondo on it.  Anything not “sparking joy” got put to one side, everything else got properly organised and stored ready for the move in RUBs.  I started with the area that I’m least attached to, which for me was my boardgames.  I managed to downsize by about a third with excess either given to family or sold.

Now I’m on to the miniatures and as everything is in easy to grab boxes I can spend time sorting through each army/collection and rationalise as I go.  I started in the summer and sold loads of things that no longer “sparked joy”.  The cash was very welcome.  Now I have boxes of armies that are sorted, planned, built and ready to paint.
