Just got word about Rem Alternis leaving CGL.

From the “Tuesday Newsday transcript thread” on the Battletech Forums:

    Episode 80
    10th March 2026
Guest: Randall Bills, Managing Director at CGL

    News:
    -Rem is leaving Catalyst!
–She’s finishing up in two weeks to concentrate on her own company
–A blog post has gone live about it
–The departure is on good terms
–Rem will still be contracting with CGL on marketing and Kickstarters
–She’ll continue to host TND for a month at least
–She’ll consider to be around the booth at cons she’s attending and might remain as a stream host moving forward
–She’ll be reviving her interview show and running live plays including L5R, Mutants and Masterminds and possibly some Monte Cook games
–She’s signed a contract with Pulse Publishing, a subsidiary of CGL who’ll be crowdfunding a collection of Gary Gygax’s last writings.

Not sure how to take this. I personally feel that she didn’t make a very good or professional job from what I have seen. It all felt very amateur-ish to me. That being said: I don’t know what it takes to be a “good PR person” in a company these days. Feels a bit more like “now it’s easier to shift blame when communication is bad”. We’ll see how this turns out and the next crowd funding from CGL will be

We may not know what it takes to be a good pr person.

But we do know that a sh!tty chaotic company is not a good place to be one.

PR can’t fix when management consistently f*cks up pretty much everything.
    That stuff brings everyone down.

    Also:
“When will the website be updated with record sheets from recent releases? This got pushed back as a result of the work being done for the new products that have not been announced yet. They’re hoping to catch up soon …”

Working on things while barely managing to keep their core products updated and in stock is not a good look for a company.

/me thinks ‘rats leaving sinking ship’ … but that’d be harsh.

Based on work performance one has to wonder how she lasted so long. The KS projects are a mess, and the TND youtube views are embarrassingly low.

It is a shame that Sarah will be anywhere near a company publishing the late Gary Gygax’s work.

She came across as another grifter who has latched on the hobby.

We don’t know what the work environment was like at CGL.
We only know the end result … and it didn’t exactly bring joy.

What we really need is an honest post mortem, but I doubt CGL will ever understand why they have to do such a thing.

As I’ve mentioned in ye big ol’ Battletech Mercenaries thread there’s been multiple companies that made a mess, but still managed to fix themselves by being honest about their mistakes both to themselves and their backers.

I’ve yet to see anything from CGL that indicates that they or anyone involved is willing to do a little soul searching.

CGL seem to be addicted to the easy money on KS. They seem to lack any self reflection, so past performance seems to be the best indication of what we will get from them in the future.

I wonder how CGL will get back control of their socials from the clique that they allowed to take over?

I’d say they are the clique … it would explain the absolutely horrible lack of management and self reflection.

We may joke about FFG and their addiction to a certain white powdery substance, but CGL is in a league of its own.

It’s kind of surprising that they manage to survive this long at all.
