Bolt action (real!) vs M1 Garand (real!)

Today was a day off for the Mrs and I’m retired, so we did what we sometimes do and headed to the local range. All rentals, we are not enthusiasts, I am a veteran.

This new range had a Lee-Enfield MkIV, Long Branch (Canadian made, 1945 vintage), and … something I’ve always wanted to shoot : an M1 Garand! The Garand was the US infantry main rifle, and makes a distinctive “clink!”, when the last round is fired, as the clip (not magazine) is ejected.

Groupings at 25m, Enfield first (far more accurate, and easier to handle), followed by Garand

 

Edit: for those who know such things, and can count, the ninth hole on the Garand grouping at left, middle, was actually the mrs who … rather missed her target and put one into mine 😂 and for the Enfield grouping, I had two wings on the right 😂
