I’m sure I’ve heard Dr Finkel’s name mentioned in dispatches before. Well he’s on this week’s The Ancients podcast, talking about the Babylonian origins of the biblical flood story.
If you’re not aware of the good Doctor he’s an Assyriologist at the British Museum, a true national treasure and a strong candidate for my favourite of all the humans.
If you enjoy your mesopotamian history it’s well worth a listen.
Very cool news. My favourite part of the British Museum is seeing the Standard of Ur – I’m nowhere near the level of Dr. Finkel, obviously, but I have read most of the available material on Mesopotamia, with early Sumer being among my favourite historical periods. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains the flood myth.
Irving is one of the best communicators for engaging people in ancient history.
He was shat on by a dove in northern Ireland
That’s good luck, right?
That kind of depends… I recall some Pogues lyrics that went ‘I’ve been spat on and shat on and raped and abused’ and that does not sound like good luck to me…
So this sounds interesting………
Did a google search for ‘Dr Finkel’ and it told me the Dr. was in northeastern KS! Also, an Obstetrician. Don’t think that’s the right one!
Second attempt and paydirt!
I’ll give this a look see on the Youtubes later while building minis.
“Driving Mr. Finkle” ?
