    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Do you ever rewatch hobby related videos? Reason for the question: I have more than one patreon creator who does a “patreon exclusive preview” and releases that same video into the wild later on. Sometimes with smaller tweaks and error corrections. So if you have watched the first version, do you go and watch the re-relase or the updated version?

And now back to the show.

My pledge: clean the hobby/office room a bit more. Get the Star Wars stuff done. Have more fun in the hobby.

Answer: usually I do not. if it’s just a relaunch with no changes, why bother? So many videos want to be watched and the supply of time is limited. if it has corrections I might give it a second glance.

    Music:

There aren’t enough hours in a day to do all the stuff I want to do, let alone watch all the Youtube videos I want to watch.
RE-watch videos? Are you crazy? I don’t even watch them once, never mind twice!

Even the OTT videos I watch at a minimum of x 1.5 speed (mostly I switch on subtitles, hold the mouse button and watch most videos at x2). Last week I let the weekender video play normally (like listening to a podcast while I did some painting) and couldn’t believe how slow and low Gerry’s natural speaking voice is!
Like, wow, come on guys, get to the point! 🙂

Pledge – put the kiln on. My wife got into pottery in a big way since we moved house so we went and got her a kiln the other week. What’s that got to do with hobby? Well, I slip-cast some triangular plates and decorated them with Warhammer insignia – they’re painted and glazed and just waited to be fired to see how they turn out (when I said I did some painting, I wasn’t necessarily talking about minis!)

Music? I’ve been trying to buy new music.

While I got Toby Jepson’s new album, I’m not sure it counts as new music – he was the part of the Little Angels.
And I’ll be honest, it sounds very similar to the kind of stuff I was listening to thirty-odd years ago!

So new-not-new. But I’m quite enjoying putting a CD on again and just letting it play through to the end.
I might to get a bit more done on my Blood Bowl Orc team.
    But no promises!

I’m not even subscribed to patreons … so no rewatching already released content for me.

OTT hasn’t done an exclusive video in ages either I think.

Evil day star is going to do its thing again in a few days. Not sure if any hobby will get done 🙁

Pledge: Work on two lists for Kings of War and get two cults built/painted for Verrotwod (8 figures).

I rewatch videos but its generally a sometimes thing as I’ve caught an initial release on YouTube and then, for some reason or other, the re-upload which may or may not have “questionable” content. Then again I watch stuff as a refresher for making airbrush flow improver/cleaner, how to make your own trees, paint reviews and see if I can dig up old abandoned channels I was subbed to.

The list build is because I am trying to get in with a new group and its one of their games. Honestly, I’d like to be involved with a dedicated painting group but I’ll take what I can get with fellow nerds. It sucks to have a high bar for painting, expect to face off against someone with a relatively similar level of interest in that part of hobby, and square off against the Unpainted Army.

Yes, the curse of “The better painted army loses” was in full swing my first game of Kings of War. I had my toys kicked in summarily in the first few turns of Ambush at 750 points. I had little idea of the intricacies of the game and how my opponent’s force played. I felt like shit and it didn’t give me any sense of zeal to repeat the process. Seeing later games I didn’t feel bad as I saw exactly how killy KoW was. I also had a better sense of what things to utilize in list building as I also had pointers given to me. It didn’t, in fact,  help as I learned that I had faced off against a stripped down version of a tuned build done up by a guy who, I suspect, was a tournament player. It was a loss. I learned how not to fail in nearly the same way in future. I’ll get back up on the horse (or better yet climb that damn 16 foot ladder).

And to completely fall into chill mode

I think we found us a crazy one! XD

But at least you can look at your army and be all like “Dang them be looking good!”

The first Sunday after the first week of work always feels… “lost”? So much time needed to recover from the work done. Or is this just me getting bloody old? I don’t know.

Oh and my best mate got me a birthday gift. Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone. I really need more space *g*

No pledge this week as I’ve been off sick for 4 weeks and back to work tomorrow on half hours, so just going to work feels like a pledge I have no desire to complete.

Don’t generally re-watch videos unless I missed something before, or it was a comedy gold and few hobby vids are comedy.

Oooooh. Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone. You have yourself a good friend right there! Look after them 🙂

Would love to know how this one plays.
I very nearly broke my “no more kickstarter games” promise on this one – and, tbh, I think it was mostly because they included dead character tokens! More games need dead/injured character tokens. I don’t like the way characters “disappear” when they get killed in tabletop gaming; it’s not a ZX Spectrum, you don’t need to free up RAM to spawn a new character – why not leave them in place, as obstructions or loot stores?

I’ve a whole load of painted up cyberpunk minis – I’m on the lookout for a good system to use them with.

@horati0nosebl0wer joining a painting club sounds like a great idea.
Playing painted minis against grey plastic is all kinds of wrong. Should be banned, I reckon 😉

@limburger – what is this evil day star of which you speak? Since moving to the midlands, I’ve almost forgotten what sunshine looks like; it seems like my daylight is only ever visible through a filter of grey cloud.

In other news, I finally got myself a bike sorted out.
So I might just cycle over to the FLGS a few miles up the road tonight and see if they have a painting group. Apparently, they play a lot of “Blood on the Clocktower” (?) on Sundays but at least that means there’ll be people there if I just gatecrash a session to say hello?

I know. hence he was my Best Man at my wedding 😉

Would love to know how this one plays.

I will keep you posted. I hope to get that set out quick and paint the 10 minis up and then invite him over for beer and game

    Monday again. Week fly by.

You won’t let him play with unpainted miniatures?
I hope he knows what a good friend he has too!

This week’s pledge is to do the painting competition entry.

Sometimes with smaller tweaks and error corrections. So if you have watched the first version, do you go and watch the re-relase or the updated version? – I’d only re-watch a video if it’s a tutorial and I plan to follow it along the second time. I have a few Patreon’s who do videos on Patreon first then release to YouTube the next day. I just ignore the YouTube release.

@pagan8th Recover as best you can.  The slow going of recovery is a task of patience.

@sundancer You say you need more space? Is that for painted or unpainted figures?

@limburger The floor looks good and definitely would have been a pain to try and roll casters over from that texture. Good to see the progress.

@blinky465 The progress of painting is hit or miss sometimes. I hate this switch of gears for a new system and require new minis while figuring it out.

For your cyberpunk figures you could always try either Space Station Zero or 5 Parsecs from Home. They’re “miniature ambivalent” games (to better align with what Gerry pointed out about the agnostic term). Perhaps there could be use in playing Cy Borg with figures?

@danlee Good luck on the competition piece. I look forward to seeing it.
