Sneaking in just before sundancer spins up the new thread! I’ve been down for the count thanks to the ‘gifts’ of Papa Nurgle this past week, but I’m finally steady enough to hold a paintbrush again.

Have I made progress since Christmas? Technically, yes—half of them got a drybrush two weeks ago… at this rate, I’ll be finished by 2030. I’m supposed to be back at work today, but let’s keep that between us. If the wife finds out I’m well enough to paint, I’ll be hanging shelves instead. Staying ‘sequestered’ in the office is definitely better for my recovery!

Just came back from another round of 3rd edt. 40k….. Winning is such an odd feeling

Skulls for the skull throne and all that! Congratuwelldone! 3rd and 4th edition 40k were such a blast back in the day. I’ve long since drifted away from modern GW systems, but that universe is still my spiritual gaming home

I’ve actually been talking with a friend about dusting off the 4th edition books and getting a game on the table – there’s been a bit of a resurgence of the older edition content all over YouTubes it seems!

Oldhammer is a thing. Can’t speak to the WHFB side of things but 40k 3rd feels way easier and slimmer than any current 40k batrep I’ve seen.

I bet that’s because GW has a nasty habit of adding tons of special rules and exceptions after each release.

3rd edition was still early days when the system was new and they didn’t have all of the factions.

Are T’au and Necrons in 3rd?
They definitely didn’t exist during the golden age of White Dwarf as far as I can remember.

Necrons appeared as early as 3rd, as a White Dwarf supplement and a handful of metal very Terminator-movie models. They’ve evolved so far!

Tau were fall of 2001, the same issue of White Dwarf that featured Middle Earth Fellowship for the first time. That’s pretty late in 3rd, might have been early 4th I think. I have some of those early Tau on the table right now – the models still hold up!

I’ve finished another faction for Heroes of Might and Magic. That’s all the factions done now (that have been released). Still got some unaligned units to paint though.

They got their codex 2001 and 2002. 3rd edition went up until 2004 (according to https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Warhammer_40,000_3rd_Edition_Rulebook )

Late entries but they where available.
