OS is installed. The DVD/blu-ray drive was quite loud during install, but overall the install was not a big deal.
The dozen or so reboots the system appeared to do was annoying, but that’s Microsoft for you.
GPU not installed yet.The cooler can show up to 3 different stats on its display which is interesting but not really useful.
I wish the colours of the system, RAM and all-in-one cooler could sync up, but I guess that’s not how these things work.
Or maybe it is possible, but I picked the wrong parts/software for that. Not that I care that much to be honest.Only annoying thing was that it wasn’t clear where the product code for Windows was, so I kind of fckd up the sticker that had it. (and yes … that’s why there’s a white rectangle in the picture. I doubt anyone could read it but I had to make sure)

So far so good.
I will need a bit more time to install all my apps, bookmarks and the anti-virus software that I use as default.(no LLoyd shot … ’cause that would be ugly as sin at the moment 😉 )
September 15, 2025 at 10:10 pm #1943562Thanks for the kind comments everybody. I enjoyed painting them and they look good on the table. Even without doing the eyes.
@torros All of the miniatures were 3D prints using STLs from Project Wargaming. I did use some scenery pieces from Antonine Miniatures but their interpretation of 2mm is quite different and they are way bigger than my 3D prints. I’ve not used any Irregular although I should probably pick some up to check them for size. Being metal castings I’d be worried about the cast-on base thickness as the 3D prints don’t have attached bases so they fit very close to the ground level.

Well, technically it’s not. Modern systems, when powered up for the first time, do a thing called memory training. The PC “learns” how much memory it has and how fast that is. AMD systems do that *very* thoroughly.
Only annoying thing was that it wasn’t clear where the product code for Windows was
On prebuild systems that number is usually embedded in the bios as “digital licence”. Stickers with serials for Windows licences I haven’t seen since Windows 8.
And don’t bother with RGB. At least I would. You need extra software to control it, when it’s not compatible with each other than you need multiple software running and those eat into performance.
Todays ride to work was “a bit windy”. Rain from left to right, trees shaking like Elvis Presley and stuff all of the roads. Stay safe!
September 16, 2025 at 11:54 am #1943616@sundancer a hunka hunka burnin’ love!
September 16, 2025 at 4:35 pm #1943685@sundancer it was a DVD (yes … those still exist) and it had an actual sticker with that holographic thing they do to ensure it is ‘authentic’.
Before installing the OS I had powered on the system and I think that’s when the memory training happens ?
Or did it really wait for the OS to install itself ?I probably exaggerated quite a bit when I mentioned the reboots. It still felt like it was far more than needed, but then Windows isn’t a modern OS no matter what MS likes to claim.
My ProxMox server (which is a Linux machine at its core) never needs an actual reboot. At best it tells me to reboot when a system image has been updated.
And yeah … those rgb lights are more for the lolz. If things work out then I’m happy, but if they don’t then that’s not a big loss either.
I’ve noticed the wind too. Didn’t bother me much, but then my trike is low to the ground and I’ve got e-assist so it still was the standard +/- 22 minutes ride home 😀 (I think I did scare a few pedestrians 😉 )
September 17, 2025 at 6:14 am #1943768Good morning Wednesday. How did we get here? Will I be able to finish (or even start) my tower project? Who knows!
September 17, 2025 at 1:05 pm #1943838Half way into my week off and done sod all hobby… unless you count suggesting eight potential settings to my players for the next campaign and when I compared the choices of one player with another there was virtually no crossover…
I want the game to be ‘different’ this time. Not the same stereotypes of characters that they play one campaign after another.
But they just want to play characters they are comfortable with and that’s dull.
September 17, 2025 at 7:52 pm #1943878ok … so there’s a motherboard utility that would sync the lights of the ram and motherboard.
Which is cool.
Except it needs to be running for that to work and it won’t sync the lights from my cooler.
Maybe when I buy/build my next pc this will be solved, but for now it is too much of a gimmick. It did look cool to have a cool blue glow.Moving my GPU to the new pc is something that has to be done in the weekend. Too much potential for failure and sleepless nights.
So far this new pc has been very quiet. I suspect the GPU will ‘fix’ that bit 🙂
September 17, 2025 at 8:49 pm #1943879I had half an hour while I was waiting for my apple & blackberry streusel to bake and did a test scheme for my PaintComp entry:

Some highlights needed but this is basically it as there are a few to do and only a week left.
September 19, 2025 at 8:09 pm #1944128@zoidpinhead – with a few highlights, that guy is going to look fantastic! How do you guys paint so quickly? (I had half an hour so just knocked this out). I’m fed up with my own incompetence by the time I’m three models in. I’d love to be able to basecoat to that quality in half an hour!
Can’t believe it’s Friday already.
I’d better get some more painting done this weekend – might just make it before the deadline, but only if I put a real spurt on.September 19, 2025 at 9:26 pm #1944136How do you guys paint so quickly?
@blinky265 I don’t know about anyone else but two things help me.
- Having a dedicated hobby space with my painting stuff right there and ready to go.
- I had to have a word with myself a few years ago after spending loads of time at the painting desk, but using all of that time procrastinating rather than painting anything. Now I try to think ahead of any hobby time what I’m going to do and what colours I need, in what order. That way when I sit down and just pick up the brush and go.
Nearly a week left until the PaintComp deadline – we can get things finished in time 🙂
September 20, 2025 at 10:22 am #1944151I’m still in the ‘planning my workspace’ phase of things … but I can see myself assembling & painting more often as less time to prep means less time to procastinate.
Now if only I could stop myself from thinking about the next project I want to do before starting the one I’m currently doing that’d be great 🙂

If you can crack that, get yourself an ebook written and you could be raking it in!
Which reminds me. I ordered the “how to scam people out of a fortune online” book a while ago and it still hasn’t arrived….
September 20, 2025 at 2:13 pm #1944185If you send me a fiver then I’m sure I can help you with that book of yours. 😉
Mine is only 1 page, so should fit in a self-adressed stamped envelope (those do exist, right?).
Anyways … maybe it helps to make a list ?
Tasks for this weekend are:
(a) wait for a package to arrive
(b) move the GPU to the new machine I’ve built
(c) remove all the empty boxes from my hobby room and start organising things …
(d) find space for the Nemesis and STALKER kickstarters that have recently arrivedDoes anyone have an actual plan for their (hobby)storage ?
Do you sort by range or by theme or by scale ?// — edit —
Package arrived.
Lawnmower assembled after much cursing.
Why doesn’t this thing come with the cord to connect it to an outlet ?
If the classic handpowered lawnmower hadn’t been almost twice as expensive I wouldn’t have picked this one.
It’s not like I got a huge lawn to mow either, but cutting it with a pair of scissors was never going to be a thing./rant
I’m going to have to visit the local DIY store tomorrow for an extension cord that fits the bloody thing.
No mowing today.
Mowing tomorrow.
Not sure if it is the right time for this, but I’m gonna do it anyway.-
