I was skipping the story cut scenes and in-game narratives on my first play through … that’s how boring it was (to me).
Open world games, especially ones by Ubisoft, tend to suffer from ‘busy work’ where every area is ‘unlocked’ by climbing a tower. Horizon:Zero dawn at least kept the busy work limited to the absolute minimum.
Good stories can be fun to play more than once. Especially if there’s little twists or alternate solutions.
The Dishonored series was like that as there were alternate options for eliminating the targets with consequences might not matter in-game but did change the story that was told (I’m not sure if it changed the ending you got).
The Hitman series is practically the #1 example on finding different ways of killing the designated target(s) in a given level.
There were a few levels that did railroad you into certain methods (especially in the finale), but one can’t expect perfection in every level.
Which reminds me that I still need to play the last iterations of the series.
