### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- Any new years resolutions yet? Have you kept your old ones?
And now back to the show.
December 20, 2025 at 11:20 am #1954286Pledge: Relax and chill. As of today I’m on holiday leave and won’t go back into office before January 6th 2026. (If all goes well) So I will try to use this time to relax and recharge. Probably be less online too.
Answer: Same resolution as every year before for some time now: 1920*1080 fullHD. Ok, silly answer. Real answer: IDGAF. By the end of the year I can barely remember what I pledged and usually they are thrown out the window July the latest. So why even bother. Be a good person, try your best and don’t make it hard for others just because you’re a lazy git.
Music:
Advanced notice: This is the last weekender thread for 2025 that I will start. So you take care of this one and make it last!
December 20, 2025 at 11:42 am #1954287This week’s pledge is same as last weeks: keep working on the Castle faction minis from Heroes of Might and Magic 3. They’re about 1/3 done so far.
- Any new years resolutions yet? Have you kept your old ones? – I’ll be picking my new resolutions in the next week or two. Last years’ hobby resolution was to play more of my board games, and I played all the solo Heroes 3 scenarios and I finished every campaign of Tainted Grail, so I’m satisfied I fulfilled the resolution.
December 20, 2025 at 11:57 am #1954288Pledge: I’m pretty much ready for Christmas so will get a couple of days painting done. Then I’ll be playing games with my sons during the holidays.
Answer: I don’t really do lifestyle resolutions for New Year. Hobby is a totally different matter. I’m a regular participant on the annual pledge thread here. I find setting goals and aspirations very positive and get more done by doing so. Long may that continue.
December 20, 2025 at 12:58 pm #1954289Pledge… carry on with my Carnevale project which is a mixture of miniature painting and terrain work. It’s sort of in the project system here, but still private because I haven’t done much yet.
I don’t normally bother with resolutions because if you don’t really want to give up something up, or not commited to doing something, then you won’t succeed.
What I would really like is for the people messing up the world to stop… I’m looking at you dictators…
Sorry… I know it’s technically politics…

I second the sentiment also it’s a very general wish and no finger pointing so I’ll allow it! It’s still more in the realm of “reasonable behaviour” vs “random finger pointing”. Common sense! That’s word I was missing. It’s common sense to wish people would stop doing stupid things!
December 20, 2025 at 4:15 pm #1954291Pledge: to slog through the landing pad paint job (for me), it’s been tedious. But another box off the pile!
New Year’s Resolution: I have a few, but I’ll keep them to myself as they are personal.

I’m afraid that has left this planet already … and it sucks.
Life would be so much better if people were a bit more willing to live and let live, and stop being such greedy ungrateful a-holes.

No new years resolutions here, because what’s the point of pretending that 1-1 is a special day for making them ?Only thing I will do is what I’ve been doing this year : try and focus on finishing my hobby room … and general trying to banish the chaos in my life by putting things in stacks that have some semblance of order to them.
Valve’s wintersale meant that I now own IL2:Sturmovik – battle for Stalingrad and several add-ons/expansions as it was cheaper to buy the bundles instead of the core game and the few add-ons I wanted. 😀
Once I get my hobby room done I can refocus on doing the same thing for my ‘home office space’ (aka the room that has my pc), but I need to complete one thing before starting with the next.
December 21, 2025 at 5:39 pm #1954322Pledge – It’s got to be to join the ‘no more’ until the pile has started to thin gang. At the rate I keep picking up new Ork models, my project would be extending until next December. Trying to avoid the burnout and keep my pace up, to round out Dakkacember, a band of Nobs and the Big Mech to get on with, and others ebay driven maddness still yet to arrive. Pretty sure I will have over 1000 pts of Orks before this is over, Waaaaagh.
As per usual, I have embraced the last minute xmas shopping fever, and the poor postman was looking pretty bedraggled this morning. Avoid town centres at all costs.
New Year’s resolutions are for people with decent short-term memory. I make and forget my resolutions almost in the same instance 🙂 But I suppose for this year it would be to avoid the shops and get on with what I’ve already stashed away.
December 21, 2025 at 11:19 pm #1954352I’ve been trying to do ‘no more kickstarters’ this year, but that hasn’t quite worked out 😀
But that is more an on-going concept and less of a ‘new years resolution’.
I’m trying to do my best to ignore the new Scibor kickstarter featuring ‘ladies’ :
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/scibor/ladies-only-miniatures-by-scibor/At the moment I know there’s the Orken project by SixMoreVodka which looks really interesting. It’s more a world-building / lore focused thing as there is no actual game, but the world they are designing is very unique. While there is ‘Ork’ in the name it’s not about traditional Orks in any shape or form.
Firelock and Free League Publishing are probably the only ones that could tempt me next year, but who knows what else might pop up.
It’s not going to be easy, but I am going to try my best.
December 22, 2025 at 11:28 am #1954354I make and forget my resolutions almost in the same instance
Same XD
So this is a Monday and no work. Feels funny. 8)
Got the Christmas tree up. Just the tree for now to see how the young lads behave. Final trip to the Christmas market this afternoon and then some nice dinner.
Huzzah!
December 22, 2025 at 2:45 pm #1954379@sundancer enjoy! I finished Xmas shopping Saturday; waiting for two of Mrs Grantincalgary’s presents to arrive (one today, one Wednesday, weather dependent unfortunately!).
Nothing but hobby time as it’s going to be cold – high of -18c today. That’s the high.
December 22, 2025 at 4:24 pm #1954382-18c ? are you living inside of a fridge ? 😀
wayland credits spent …
now to spend the credits that I got as my christmas present from work.
I kind of liked the surprise boxes of crappy food that used to be the default.
Now I get a digital code for a temporary webshop where I have to spend fake credits to buy my present.
It wouldn’t be bad if there was any good stuff in there, but the stuff all appears to be some 3rd rate brand that does not appear to exist anywhere. At least I can get a gift card for an actual webshop that sells things. Needlessly complicated and no tabletop hobby bits to be had.#FirstWorldProblems that’s for sure.
December 22, 2025 at 5:01 pm #1954383@limburger – just Canada, not even the cold part. I used to live in the Real North, where it would be -40c (which is also oddly -40F) for up to two months straight. That was cold. This is just a few days. I’m hoping my Giftmas stuff arrives soon, as I put a lot of effort into this year’s outbound one.
