    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Do you label/mark your boxes of stuff? If not: why and how do you keep track of your stuff?!

And now back to the show.

Ma pledge: same as before, finish the PaintComp entry. It’s almost done!

Answer: I kind of do and I don’t. Every time I start reorganising and sorting my chaos I tend to label stuff properly so that “in future I might find what I seek”. But at some time I need to “make space quickly” and things get moved but not labelt. And this way I end up with way too much chaos and confusion. “I swear I had a box of bases somewhere!” *sigh*

Pledge:  Get started posting the Speedpaint pen project.  That means getting going with the painting.  I’m off to a slow start as I was decorating last week although I did manage to get some done in the UHH ( thanks Tim 🙂 ).

Answer:  For the Pile of Potential I use Really Useful Boxes as have been showcased by Jill and a few others on the site.  I stack them into a wardrobe and they have labels on each end making identification slightly easier – although as they are clear plastic you can see what’s inside fairly easily.  In the case where there are lots of different things in the box I keep a list on a piece of paper on top of the box which I’m pretty good about updating if things get taken out/put in.

My painted stuff is either in my display cases or in architect’s plan drawers.  Generally I’ve got a pretty good memory and usually know where things are when I suddenly need a specific model.

Did some of last weeks pledge… I assembled and primed all the Mounted Gunfighters, Spectral Gunfighters and Bath Time figures… but that’s as far as I got with that. I prototyped the mdf building lighting.

This weeks pledge could be a belated spring clean challenge as I’ve got the Carnevale miniatures out from the kickstarter back in 2018. I’m planning an RPG next year using them as PC’s and villains. It took me years to assemble the resins as there were some fiddly bits and superglue was involved, but they are all primed and ready. I’ve just preordered the World’s Faire starter set and two more gangs… so I’ll have more stuff to assemble in a week or so… and get to try the plastics.

When it comes to storage… if I can keep the game and miniatures in the original box I do as it makes finding them easier.

If they don’t fit in the box… then I use ‘really useful boxes‘ and ‘A4 paper storage boxes‘ to store the miniatures and use a piece of paper trapped between the lid and box to identify what’s in there.

Paints are stored by colours. Bases are stored by size. Terrain is stored in boxes by type and genre.

I like to be able to find stuff quickly. As a general rule… unless I haven’t used something in a few years… then I can find it within 5 minutes… that’s not just gaming stuff… that’s everything… DVDs, books, tools, xmas decorations… I have finite space and need to be organised.

I wish I knew how to store stuff. It’s one of the things I haven’t quite decided on, because at the very least I’d have to decide on a system of sorting things in logical-ish sections. So far my method of ‘storage’ was : it goes wherever there’s room …

Things must be easy if you only have a single system or ‘scale’ to worry about.

I’ve been tempted to creat my own inventory system, but that kind of delays the proper storage even further.

The only thing I’ve sort of decided upon is some kind of wall-mounted rack system for my paint collection, because I’d like to have them visible.

    Pledge: giftmas project, and Orks.

Org: I have a wide shelving system, and my piles are in stacks. It’s getting out of hand, but it’s still manageable. If I put things in boxes, they’ll be disappeared forever. Even clear ones. I know I won’t go back to them. Now that I’m painting for myself again I have to sort out where to put finished models.

Addendum: winterized my two motorcycles today; first snow was last week, and this is the nicest day since. The next week looks like winter.

This week’s pledge is to finish the current batch of Heroes of Might and Magic minis.

    • Do you label/mark your boxes of stuff? If not: why and how do you keep track of your stuff?! – I use Really Useful Boxes, which are transparent, so no need for labels.

Pledge- Didnt do too badly on last week’s pledges, Paint comp entry done, and Nobvember continues at pace. Still waiting on parts for the printer, so no distractions on that front so far. This week’s pledge is to try to pick up the pace on the Orks, get the Deffkoptas sorted and then make some progress on the Deff Dread.

Do you label/mark your boxes of stuff? If not: why and how do you keep track of your stuff?!

Luckily, I don’t have a horde large enough to be overly worried about storage; my meagre collection doesn’t take up all that much room. If it’s not in a display cabinet or one of those GW hard cases packed away, then it’s likely not put together. I keep some small transparent containers for various assorted spare sprue bits, normally sorted by race and then a drawer of shame, where all loose sprues and yet to be built models live.  I can see some system being necessary if it starts piling up, but so far, it’s my usual stuff it somewhere and hope I remember the strategy.

Pledge: Finish some transport trays and pop in atleast a few more times before Giftmas

Label my stuff? Eh.. the only time I’ve done that was for moving. Outside of that I just use transparent plastic bins to look inside of what I have around or lump it all together in a crate that I can unpack easily.

I agree with @zoidpinhead , @pagan8th and @danlee on the matter of clarity

@limburger the system makes for easier selections. As long as your wall mounted stuff keeps getting used its all good.

*looks over @Lazagram* No Hoard of Shame/Pile of Overwhelming Potential? Is this one of those contagious conditions like torros had when he went off to paint everything he owned? 😋

    And because its appropriate

Now for my neighbor to the north since its real winter now up there

@horati0nosebl0wer that’s kind of the idea … if it is visible/available then it is more likely to be used as well.

    Monday.

    ’nuff said. UGH.

    #1951124

What is this Monday you speak of? I am seeing Sunday 2.0 that means I need to do laundry after I get up in a few hours. This time traveling thing is all sorts of odd in combination with doing hobby again. I feel like I might be able to get some stuff completed. The world is off kilter and I must right the ship of sanity… we’re doomed

Snow, ewww.  Not my favourite thing.  I hate being cold.  I’d make a terrible Canadian 😀

I’ve made some progress with the Speedpaint markers.  They are so quick to use.  I figured out I’m doing a miniature in about 10 minutes.  That is three times faster than even my fastest brush based technique.  Not to the same finish standard admittedly but with the project I’m doing the volume is much more important.  I’ve started a project which you can check out if you want more details.

I’ve been listening to some stuff on YouTube whilst working, mostly history documentaries but in the last session it was Radiohead.  As the only indie kid in the room I appreciate you guys like things a bit more rock and roll so just for you here is a cock rock version:
