I retired because they were asking more of me and neither managers, nor customers seemed to appreciate me.
Since I retired, when I bump into my former colleagues, they always tell me I got out at the right time. At least a dozen people have left the company since I left… guess that makes me a ‘trend setter’ 🙂
March 31, 2026 at 5:45 pm #1969466@pagan8th good choice, good timing – the trick is finding your “new normal”, especially in the first year – that’s my experience. It sounds like you’re doing the right things. Adjustment was the hardest part. I think you’re further ahead than I was at the same time.
March 31, 2026 at 7:52 pm #1969470A little late to the party but hi everyone.
Pledge is to get a wee list together of some epic scale sci fi minis for a wee game that we’re hopefully playing this coming weekend. This glorious, four day weekend. We don’t get many of the public holidays in libraries so I like to take as much enjoyment out of it as I can! Should drag my Spring Clean Challenge project out of the stash as well, while I’m at it. Will I or will I fall back into Azeroth after re-subbing on Sunday only time shall tell…
How do you deal with two weeks and no weekender/XLBS plus time adjustment?! It has been a shame the show isn’t on and potentially not back for another couple of weeks what with Easter and then Salute. It might seem very silly but the XLBS feels like sitting with my pals and listening to all their hobby projects and I miss the heck out of it when it isn’t around
March 31, 2026 at 8:13 pm #1969471This week’s pledge is to just do a bit. My new job involves a lot more travel time which is almost completely displacing hobby time at the moment. I’m hoping after a few more weeks I’ll get used to it and be fitting everything in again.
- How do you deal with two weeks and no weekender/XLBS plus time adjustment?! – I’m fine. Not had much spare time these past two weekends so I didn’t mind.
April 1, 2026 at 6:59 am #1969487Wednesday. Very foggy outside, barely anything to see. Move along. Nothing here.
Except coffee. Coffee is here.
April 1, 2026 at 11:09 am #1969492April 1, 2026 at 3:25 pm #1969497Today is the last below zero C day for about a week. I dare to think … spring may be here.
Fourth Winter has receded!
EDIT: Fifth Winter arrived in force this morning with a full on blizzard.
There are more winters than hobbit breakfasts…
Also, I’m going to add my “beef of the day”. It’s EMAIL. Send an email to a person or company, get a response… almost never. What is the purpose of email, anymore? AI bots do “customer service”, and are f*ucking useless. Email auto-responses are “we’ll get back to you in 3-5 business days”. How is this even an acceptable standard?!? Grrrr. Also, really GRRRR.

April 2, 2026 at 5:49 pm #1969701Is this the easter weekend thread or the last weekend?
If easter weekend, pledge to get test schemes underway on a few projects that maybe on the chopping block to decide their fate.
As to time, its an abstract concept developed by the romans to get more work out of their slaves. Honestly not noticed its year end and work tends to encroach on free time, more than the romans would. Also confession time I don’t regularly watch the weekender.
April 2, 2026 at 6:43 pm #1969704It’s last weeks thread.
March was not a great month for me. April started badly.
A bit of good hobby news for me today as the X-Men Starter Set crossed the atlantic and despite the cheap ‘cereal box’ cardboard it was packaged in… everything appears undamaged.
What’s with companies and this piss poor cardboard now? Don’t send hard plastic through the post in a box a 3 year old child can demolish and expect it to survive the handling of a typical amazon driver…
As a former postie I can tell you that parcels get rough treatment, mauled around in grey sacks so the words fragile are not seen until the bag is tipped upside down and the contents slam into a hard surface… and I dread to think how much care amazon take.
April 2, 2026 at 7:16 pm #1969705Glad to hear the X-Men made it.
April 2, 2026 at 10:23 pm #1969713I had a go with the Goblin Hobbies stamp kit I got at Christmas today.

Not entirely successful despite practicing for ages before I started. You can see how well I got on here (not so well on the left, better on the right):

Has anyone else had a go with nail art stamps? Any tips or tricks I might be missing?
April 3, 2026 at 7:10 am #1969734Painting shields is not easy and a bit of battle damage on the shield can make any imperfections look intentional.
If I painted armies with shields I would probably try that.

That’s something I might want to try when I find appropriate motives and a cheaper source XD
Is this the easter weekend thread or the last weekend?
@dags It now is! Usually I make a new thread on Friday or Saturday (if I don’t forget) but I can’t be bothered. It’s a long weekend to relaxe and unwind.
Eggs, chocolate and cake!
What’s with companies and this piss poor cardboard now?
@pagan8th Costs. Simple as that.
Now back to chocolate.
April 3, 2026 at 2:43 pm #1969773Good Friday. Have to go shopping for mrsgrantincalgary’s upcoming work trip, and I abhor shopping. Will probably build more Nurgle Old World later. No chocolate as Cadbury doesn’t even use real chocolate anymore – it’s more hydrogenated palm oil and chemicals. ENSHITTIFICATION!
April 3, 2026 at 3:39 pm #1969792After the week I had… and as I felt that X-Men needed to company on my assembly line… I bought the Sentinels Faction pack.
Don’t really care about cassandra nova… but three sentinels to stomp around the board is good.
By the way @sundancer, without Nightcrawler of the X-Men, the only german words I would know would probably be: spiel, blitzkrieg and achtung. He added unglaublich and few more words probably. I apologise for any spelling mistakes as I’m working from memory here.
